Just bought a 14" MacBook Pro for $2,699, $500 below Apple's $3,199 list price, to replace my M4 Pro Mac Mini (24GB/512GB), which I'm trading in. Really excited about the specs on this one!
- M5 Pro
- 18-core CPU, 20-core GPU
- 24GB RAM
- 2TB SSD
Why the switch: I do a lot of large batch photo editing, and I wanted to start doing it while traveling. I also wanted the same or better performance than the M4 Pro, but portable.
Other use: work (Microsoft Office suite, Teams), plus light gaming: Divinity: Original Sin 2 now, Baldur's Gate 3 soon. At home, it'll be docked in clamshell to a ProArt monitor.
The OLED redesign is rumored for next month (same M5 Pro chips, reportedly lighter, with touch?). I know nothing official's out yet, but for those weighing it up: what would make you buy the current model now versus wait?
For me it came down to price and a proven form factor. I'd rather not be a first-gen guinea pig for the new design.

The newer models will most probably be MORE expensive. I do not find oled on a small display that impressive. It’s better but slightly.
I’m more in the camp in buying used in older to save a lot of money. With ram shortages, shit is expensive. Can get similar experiences for 1k less.

Apple magic mouse (int battery) keeps disconnecting/reconnecting and/or just stops tracking completely like its dead. Its not that old. The same thing happened to my previous one. Fine 100% of the time until one day.. Just starts playing up. I don't know what to do. I've tried every reset/preference file etc. Surely they can't be dying this quickly? i have a wireless keyboard that is over four years old and hasn't been a problem once.

eh, sometimes you get a dud that's slipped by QC. you may have been substantially unlucky. give them a ring and they'll probably replace it no question asked

Looking for an external SSD to easily transfer pics form the phone to any other device.
I saw all these MagSafe fast SSD (Lexar ES5 or Sandisk Creator Phone) but I suppose those are meant for film makers and to transfer pro-res media directly to the disk.
Maybe I just need a regular external SSD.

Sorry if this is dumb, i have AT&T and wanted to buy the 18 pro , can someone tell me if I can buy it now with no issues or if there still would be. I’m so confused 😂

Pretty sure only the Pro Max has issues with the Qualcomm chip

Correct. The 18 Pro uses Apple’s own C2 modem, the Op should be fine with no issues on AT&T.

Who can explain Apple One to me? The Apple Store confused me.
I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max - I pay for Apple Care Monthly. I’m buying a new iPad (11inc, A16). Before I put Apple Care on it, should I just get Apple One?
Lady in Apple Store said I need to already have Apple Care for the iPad before I can enroll in Apple One.
