A Parable - The 3 People associated with the Noisy Car:
1st person is frantically trying to shut off the alarm from inside or posting about on social media.
2nd is sitting with headphones turned way up, barely aware there is anything going on.
the 3rd is the driver, who kid locked all the doors, and is randomly honking the horn while laughing wildly at how upset the 1st person is getting.
Almost nobody has noticed that the car engine is running while the car is in a garage with the door shut.
In the last election, just over a third voted the Trump ticket, just under a third voted against them, and the remaining third couldn't be arsed to spend an hour to prevent career criminals from destroying the USA.

I would feel more empathy for Americans if they weren't shrugging and saying nothing can be done. Meanwhile their President routinely threatens and belittles my country and helps fund and influence separatist movements.
I used to think Canadians were passive but that is one race Americans are winning.

Honestly, as a Canadian I kind of have come to loathe the "woe is especially me" Americans. Sure, you didn't vote for the pedophile in chief, but you also aren't really helping. Your Democrats are better in that they don't actively attack us, but they also aren't our friends. Since the end of WWII (and probably earlier) America has interfered with and actively sought to undermine Canadian sovereignty and accomplishments on the global stage.
We are the 11th largest economy while being far from that in population. Fastest growing economy in the G7, massive job growth, have piles of global achievements for our dedication to peace along operations. Democrats and Republicans alike have belittled and downplayed our position, used us a s ascapegoat. And you all keep voting for two sides of the same rotten coin.
Sorry you're locked in the car with the car alarm blaring. Should have changed the battery, tires, and locks years ago, but you didn't. Now I'm not going to feel bad when someone smashed in the windshield to shut it up.

He's taken over the home of the neighbour you disagreed with on lots of fundamentals but had a working civil relationship.
Within 2 months of moving in, he tells you the only way your wife (or daughter, considering accusations) could look sexier is tied up and naked in his basement. And also, you have a nice yard, and it'd be a real shame if something happened to it.
