The extended ponder at the end: I was so close!
Replaying and replaying - including a fantasy version where the fuckup doesn't happen and life had gone on in a merry, carefree, imma get paid way - how nice that would have been - replay replay replay - fuuuuuuck.
We've all been there, one way or another: indescribably painful, the emotion of regret...!

"Allright, how can I fix this"

u/Long-Maximum-6607 16d ago
Seriously. You can see the guy looking at the end brainstorming... like, if I scope up all the pieces and put them back in the box, can I say it was like this when I opened it.

Twisting at the top, if you look at the base the front shifts while the back stays in place
58
u/mavaddat 20d ago
Are you supposed to provide constant symmetrical support to the glass the whole time? It's crazy such a small support imbalance (as in the OP video) could result in catastrophic torque.
58
u/Sellazar 20d ago
Yeah you are supposed to slot the full pane into a pane length slot on the wall, then you secure the top corner with a clamp to the wall, they are designed to absorb impact along the main body, if you twist or pull an edge it will shatter.. same with those tempered glass desks. Folks lift from the edge and then twist causing it to shatter.

u/247Toughguy 18d ago
No, not using proper setting blocks to rest your glass on while adjusting. If a corner of that tempered glass touches tile this is the result. Those adjustments made that glass make contact with the tile. This break has nothing to do with twisting the glass. A panel that size has probably up to 2” of deflection that it can handle on one side of the panel while the other side is completely fastened to the wall using clamps.

Man in the orange looks like he’s thinking all the way back to 1st grade when Johnny stole his juice pouch, and how that has led up to this

Annealed glass is worse

All glass is terrifying at the end of the day.

u/buddrball 19d ago
Hot glass is the scariest, because it looks the same as cold glass. That was my first lesson on my first day of laboratory glass blowing class... we all still burned ourselves.

All glass is terrifying at the end of the day?

Look up Prince Rupert's Drops.
Smash the heads with hammers, nothing happens. Put even a tiny scratch on the tails, they explode.
Glass is the form the Devil takes to lure us to our doom.

It might also have been the fact that this was uploaded to watchpeopledieinside that ticked you off that something might go wrong. Very observant!

Ticked off = upset about something (alternatively, checked an item off a list, but not in this context)
tipped off = brought attention to

Yep, nothing happens after the first fifteen seconds unless you're interested in the dude knocking the glass out of his shoes.

Yeah, I don't think the whole minute or so of the guy standing there was watching him die. I think he was already dead inside.

You cant set tempered glass directly on stone/tile. Where's the setting blocks at?
5
u/yomamaisanicelady 21d ago
Just curious, why is that? I mean, I understand it’ll break, but why specifically?
16
u/Smooga22 20d ago
Tempered glass is very strong on the flat surfaces. It is extremely weak on its edges, and will break into tiny pieces at the lightest touch. Annealed glass is cheaper, and it is able to be cut, drilled, and polished after manufacturing. However, annealed glass breaks into large shards that are quite sharp and dangerous. Both types of glass have their purposes, it just depends on the application.

No setting blocks, no channel and no clips. They were about to caulk it in place... breaking on them was actually the safest outcome haha now I wanna see them do a steamer with a transom.

u/Livid-Tank-3983 22d ago
Dude I've seen it before. 3/8 tempered silicone directly to tile. It was a 40x80 shower screen. Morons

PC builders saw that coming a mile away

u/CartsOfDarkness 22d ago
Any long time member of this sub saw this coming a mile away. I mean I guess it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to guess what might happen here even if it's your first time on the sub lol, seen countless videos like this here though.

u/CopainChevalier 22d ago
Maybe I'm weird, but I am not exclusively subbed to this sub, nor do I come here unless it appears on my home page
12
u/ebk_errday 22d ago
There's a "PC building" joke he's implying with his comment. It's not really about knowing what's actually going to happen in this vid.
