Yes, tempered. Otherwise, he would be a bloody mess from broken shards of annealed glass.

It makes me cringe: bare hands, t-shirt, possibly not wearing safety glasses.

It's not a flaw it's a limitation of the material. Obviously tempered glass witg strong edges would be nice, but you can't have both

Its a security feature, rather than getting scliced in half by big pieces you wont get cut at all by those thousands of small pieces
