Survival instincts of a sloth

u/EL-HEARTH 2d ago
Considering the car was behind them out of sight and well is a couple thousnad pound vehicle, his survival instincts never mattered. As to why he doesnt move after the impact. Its called shock
67
u/MusicHearted 2d ago
That's a Chevrolet Tahoe. Closer to 5600lb. And yeah, he reacts like he went into instant shock.
Judging by the glass break pattern, it might have also pressed up against him. I'd be terrified to move with a panel of shattered glass against my back, too.

That car could have eaten them alive if it wanted to but it was just testing the waters. They often confuse us with seals.

At this point it's hard to believe its not staged. The timing of the dialogue and then the action. Anything for views and engagement.
5
u/GamingSenpai35 2d ago
This seems real. I'd be careful not assuming everything is staged. It's easy to default to "this is fake" since so much is, but this one is just real i think. He was on an actual rhode with other cars around when he came already spinning in.

arent bollards supposed to be enough to stop this
252
u/Brunoise6 2d ago
They definitely helped bring that car to a stop
183
u/MissingLink101 2d ago
Yeah you can see there's a change in speed once it hits them. Those bollards probably saved the lives of these two guys.

u/GabeIsGone 2d ago
They are rated to stop a vehicle from ‘penetrating’ past 3.3’, and at a higher rate of speed.
So yeah, these seem not as effective as they should be, which is probably installation problem though. I mean, they definitely saved these two from major injury, but that’s only cuz this was an accident. In a hypothetical where this was purposeful, that bollard got completely taken out and the vehicle still looks okay to continue on.
I’d ask for a refund.
6
u/Outside-Drag-3031 1d ago
They 100% saved their lives or very serious injury. Safety measures aren't for creating a bubble around us, they're for doing the best we can in the worst situations. Those bollards did well, and at most I could recommend doubling up the rebar so it has a bit more resistance in cases like this, where a vehicle threads the needle and only hits 1.
Interesting to note, though: the already bent board off to the right? Seems like this has happened before, so maybe they should revisit the traffic pattern instead.

u/fightingthefuckits 2d ago
Nope. Most bollards are just a piece of pipe bolted to the ground. They'll stop light contact and fuck up your bodywork while doing it but they're not stopping a full size SUV moving at speed.

They’re not made of titanium. It’s still a 2 ton piece of metal and glass traveling at what looked like at least 15-20 mph on impact.
Physics can’t be defied.

Damage is already done! Why do you even need to have ‘survival instincts‘ now xD

u/KwyjiboTheGringo 2d ago
Damage is already done!
Don't assume that. There no telling what the driver will do next, or what their intentions were.

u/HanS0llo 2d ago
Amazing glass though to withstand that impact.
33
u/Psychostickusername 2d ago
Withstand? It looked pretty broken to me. It's encased in plastic though which stops the shards from going everywhere
13
u/HanS0llo 2d ago edited 2d ago
Well obviously yeah I can see that. I'm talking from a safety standpoint, despire being broken, it withheld it's shape well. Pretty sure modern safety glass is made with a plastic interlayer in the middle like windshields and then heat welded to the outer panes.

I gaze here upon a rube, an individual who has achieved such staggering levels of diminished cognitive ability that even their most servile ramblings fall far below any semblance of mediocrity, as evidenced by their inability to exhibit even the most modest veneer of alacrity.

I had a team lead that used to sit in the corner, tehre was an emergency door behind her, brick wall, she moved one month to sit closer to the rest of us, then a month later some lady crashed into that brick cinderblock wall, the crashbar of the door was about where that person sat, she'da been a pancake, she was a muffin before, so glad shes still that muffin lol

As often as I see this recently, I world be surprised if business/ property owners start installing bollards at the curb in front.

Given the recent volume of podcasts and podcasters, i don’t think anything is unexpected around a podcast someplace somewhere. Blackhole opens up mid podcast

Dude froze in place. Survival instinct didn’t even kick in.
69
u/Kayish97 2d ago
Freeze is an instinct. It’s part of the fight, flight, freeze response the body automatically has. Usually people experience one of them, but having multiple reactions is common.
Anyway, yeah his instincts did kick in! Just not the right response.

Umm, he got really badly hit on his lower lumbar area? How hes supposed to react??, who knows how long lasting his back injury will be.

u/bem13 2d ago edited 2d ago
Yeah, I don't know what people talking about survival instincts in this thread are smoking. They couldn't see or hear the car in time, by the time they could react it was already over. The guy on the right looked to be almost crushed between the wall and the desk, who knows what injuries he had. The other guy was either in shock or injured as well, since he seems to be checking his right side. Everyone thinks they're John Wick, until some unforeseen shit happens and they freeze just like this.

Survival instincts of a carrot

Did you know that carrots in the winter develop microbes that expel most kind of insects but in turn enhances the vision of humans? Nah i just made that shit up

I think this is a trend increasingly, I’ve noticed my reactions to real danger are insufficient sometimes. I think it’s because we’re used to a safe world where you are praised for being unflinching and unafraid

This reminds me of that one clip where a food influencer couple at a restaurant gets hit by a car through the window while trying out burgers.

It's AI, the vehicle loses headlight before the crash.
Edit: ok, I didn't see the bollard on the right behind speaking guy, i retract my statement.
btw: please don't get rude just because someone is mistaken.
16
u/PureOnion_8080 2d ago
Do you not see it hit the bollards before it crashes into the window?
-7
u/mrrobot01001000 2d ago
Nope, it doesn't even touch the bollards. The front section of the vehicle is simply "shot off", as if a Transformers car were vomiting. That's not how physics works.
4
u/PureOnion_8080 2d ago
At the very start of the video you see the bollard that the car will hit dead center.

Not AI, the other car in the back has hit this car to cause the impact spin, the headlight was loose from that first collision.

A missed opportunity to collapse on the ground with a mysterious and long-term back injury.
