Better Ask Reddit What Friendly Mooks or Redshirt Characters got the worst wipeouts?
Because sometimes the "good guys" have their own little helper allies in arms. Unfortunately for them, when it's time for the stakes to rise they're the first on the chopping block.
While not actively bloody, the way Clone Troopers keep getting brutally killed in the Clone Wars 2008 show is messed up. Like this trooper on the right that got trap chopped up into many pieces in the Citadel or the LAAT Pilot whose ship glass and helmet got cracked by B2 Rocket Droids and before being tossed into the vacuum of space or that other 212th Division trooper that gets maules and devoured by the hairy land piranhas on Ryloth or that other 212th that gets either eaten by zombie Geonosians or mass infected with their zombie worms.
Just the type of ends that really wants to make you protect your friendlies.

In Ace Combat 8, your guys frequently get replaced by mushroom clouds. I have to go back and count.

Star Trek's "The Apple" was BRUTAL to the redshirts. They get:
- Shot
- Stabbed
- Hit in the head
- Shot by poison darts from alien plant
- Disintegrated after being hit by lightning
- Killed by Exploding Rocks
Spock gets that too but he's fine by the end.

Tasha Yar wasn’t quite a redshirt (security/ops was yellow in TNG, and she was senior staff regardless), but holy shit she got a bad death. I watched the first two seasons of TNG when I had a really bad cold and was pretty out of it, but I still remember thinking “damn, whose dog did that actress kill?” when it happened.

u/Teep_the_Teep Diplomacy Has Failed. 8h ago
From what I heard early TNG had a pretty toxic behind the scenes culture, espeically for the women. Note that two women regulars bolted from the show before the first season was even over. I think maybe some of that toxicity bled through to the creen.

u/Capable-Education724 7h ago
By all accounts that toxicity didn’t really die down behind the scenes, see also DS9 (which had a lot of the same crew) and Dax’s first actress.

Gates McFadden, I guess she waited until the season was over to bolt. Diana Muldar as Pulaski replaced her.

There were some wipeouts in The Odyssey. A bunch of guys got literally ripped apart when they tried to sack the Cicones, got eaten limb-from-limb by the cyclops, most of them get eaten by the Laestrygonians, one of them fell off of Circe’s roof, some more get eaten by Scylla, and finally the rest (sans Odysseus himself of course) get wiped by a storm sent by Zeus. All-in-all, around 600 men got got through various island shenanigans.

Odyssesus landing on the sixth Murder Death Island: "Surely THIS one will be safe, right guys?"

u/CaptnsComingLookBusy No shut up, don't worry 'bout that. 4h ago
I love in the movie when they're heading to the last Murder Death Island and one of the soldiers literally goes "look, the winds are sailing us right in, it's like the gods want us to go here!"
AND YOU GUYS STILL THINK THAT'S A GOOD SIGN???

In fairness, that storm sent by Zeus is their own fault. They ate sacred livestock of Helios, and he demanded their lives for it. Odysseus even recognized the cattle for what they were and did everything he could to convince his men not to touch them.
That part is basically like these guys saw a big ass “WARNING: High Voltage!” sign and decided to grab the fence anyway.

Speaking of Clone Wars, the hallway in the finale. Maul casually ripping out metal panels from the walls, using them to crush, behead and impale clones. And as a final insult to injury, using the Force to keep one last trooper in the way of closing blast door to rip his arm off. They were already brainwashed by Order 66 at that point, but still makes you feel bad for the clones.

In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Commander Ponds, Mace Windu's second-in-command, is captured and unceremoniously executed by Aura Sing to lure Mace into a trap set by Boba Fett.
14
u/FightTheChildren 8h ago
Pretty crazy to try and have Boba do it first. Considering all the clones look like his dad.

u/Funny_Mud6639 THE BABY 8h ago
Honestly, rip boy Ponds, probably not the worst clone death in that debacle. My mind goes to the trainer that thought Boba was a cadet that just killed one of his older brothers, before having like internal debate whether to shoot not, gets caught by Boba tries talking him out of this vengance plan and then executed by I think Aura Sing. Or the one that was on the ship and used as bait for Windu and then dies in a fiery explosion from Jangos helmet.

Those guys in Atlantis who get electrocuted or locked into a flooding hallway when the ship sinks.
Also in battlefield, the one where you fight China there’s a section in a sinking ship where you’re walking over a flooded grate and see soldiers underneath who are just barely high above the water to be able to breathe but are blocked by the grate and you just walk over them.

Don’t know if she counts, because of the light she’s technically shown in by the movie, but the assistant lady in Jurassic World gets it SO rough, man.

God bless Katie McGrath for wanting a gruesome death scene, she really helped make the aviary breach feel like a proper nightmare scenario. Everyone else in that sequence is getting bit, pecked out, lifted up and then dropped, but not poor Zara. Lady Luck decided “fuck this gal in particular” and a conga line of Dinos obliged.

There’s honestly a ton of terrible wipeouts that the clones got. Shout out to cutup in the rookies who got eaten by a giant eel popping out of a hole like something out of King Kong.

Benjamin Carmine in Gears of War 2 gets eaten by a "GIANT FUCKING WORM!" and is later found inside being devoured alive by some parasites inside the worm's body.

In your example that Clone Trooper that gets cut in half by those closing doors gets it SO BAD
He has just enough time to think about it and be terrified by what's about to happen to him

Is there any chance they managed to escape when Boba blew his way out? Where's my 5-paragraph story about the two goobers who crawled out like 5 minutes after Boba gets carted off?

boba had the benefit of his armor protecting him from stomach acids. The other dudes in just clothes wouldn't be as lucky.

Crude and embarassing certainly, but worst I'm not sure such a clean cut and beginning from the top of the head, dude probably barely felt it.

Rohan and Gondor Soldiers in Lord of the Rings get it pretty bad. Be it being squashed by trolls and oliphaunts, mauled by wargs, or getting the “release the prisoners” treatment.

In Chainsaw Man when almost all of the Public Safety devil hunters get taken out. Something about people who risk their lives fighting supernatural evil just getting unceremoniously shot by randos in the street really hit me
