Dude has some pipes

139

u/AlternativeFarmBoi 4h ago

Not an easy song to sing and my guy crushed it

66

u/Competitive_Tune6401 4h ago

Agreed, the video almost doesn’t even do it justice. I’m sure listening live must of been great.

u/Whitesox_are_neat 4h ago

For sure

For anybody who is curious, the Marines have a Birthday Ball every year around the birthday of the Marine Corps, which was Nov 10, 1775. Each command has their own ball, and they have a ceremony at the beginning. There are bands (like this one) at the major USMC bases, and so they get requested by the different commands to play for the ceremony.

This ball is the East Coast Marine Musicians Ball, which is the one that the east coast Marine bands attend as their own, instead of working to play the ceremony at someone else's. They do it a month ahead of time because for the next month they'll be working non stop playing at as many other balls as they can so those commands don't have to use recorded music.

17

u/TallBenWyatt_13 3h ago

My buddy has been in for 20 years now and says he looks forward to the birthday ball every year. Leathernecks take certain shit very seriously… including their parties.

7

u/Suckit66 4h ago

So this is the Marine ball for the musicians at each base on the east coast. Just curious how you know that? I was literally wondering what the context of this performance was as I was listening to it.

Kegsbreathe is going to fire all of them.

30

u/SupineFeline 4h ago

We don’t play that soft ass shit in our military anymore! Trumpets are gay! Only Pantera from now on!!

26

u/notmuself 4h ago

Right, or Bawitdaba by Kid Rock, which will probably be announced as our national anthem any day now.

1

u/Intelligent_Notice56 18m ago

Small victory that it's not "All Summer Long"

5

u/KipSummers 3h ago

Trump would insist on show tunes

3

u/ShittingOutPosts 3h ago

YMCA on repeat.

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Tax4969 4h ago

After 1030 around here it’s Alice In Chains or nothin!!

46

u/notmuself 4h ago

Based on nothing but it being called the black parade, that's DEI!

4

u/Professional_Ad9809 4h ago

Oh yeah, they check all his boxes

125

u/Skreamie 4h ago

They should really cover Ghost of You

15

u/DoYouLikeWafflezz 4h ago

Thank you! I knew they had some military themed video, I just couldn’t remember what it was.

15

u/Skreamie 4h ago

Video is so dope. Marc Webb directed it, and several other videos for Green Day, Evanescence, 3 Doors Down, Good Charlotte and loads more. He also directed The Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2, and 500 Days of Summer.

12

u/DoYouLikeWafflezz 4h ago

Ok buddy.

First of all, thank you for reminding me of a bunch of shit I really liked in my teens.

Secondly, fuck you for reminding me of a bunch of shit I really liked in my teens that I now have to go rewatch and possibly discover I don’t like anymore. Who does that to a person? I hope you step on a Lego at night at least 5 times.

30

u/fastal_12147 4h ago

That's what I thought they were going to cover

2

u/clutchthepearls 1h ago

Pretty mad when I unmuted and it wasn't, to be honest.

36

u/Skreamie 4h ago

He got the right amount of grit on "the blaccck parade" as well

65

u/oo7changa1 5h ago

That was awesome! It just got better and better!

4

u/Child_of_the_Hamster 3h ago

And the dancing at the end! 😂 I need to see the full video!

53

u/Infamous-Yard-677 4h ago

Vocals are pretty much 1 to 1

22

u/Intelligent-Art-5000 4h ago

The spots for military bands are super competitive. I'm not surprised that they crushed it.

10

u/Ok_Sock_6485 4h ago

The Air Force band is currently hiring an audio engineer. I think the pay is $80k and you have to submit multiple examples of previous mixes. If they like your stuff you then have to go to DC for a live audition.

Modern chemical warfare

13

29

u/stmcvallin2 4h ago

Who knew band kids could be marines

22

u/TroubledTanker 4h ago

The marine band is a huge thing in the US.

8

u/ScarInternational161 3h ago

Kid who graduated with my son, was in honors choir and had pipes like this one joined the Marines. He is amazing!! I never would in a million years thought he would've gone that route, but he's been in 10 yrs now.

11

u/VectorB 4h ago

I have several friends who are Marines. Men, women, and trans. LARPers and theater kids.

People really need to reboot what they know about our modern military.

1

u/JustNota-- 1h ago

Yep, was Navy most of the Marines I knew fell in 2 categories. 1. Super dorks, 2. Over compesators.

1

u/Conscious_Minimum583 4h ago

Are you slow?

9

u/Flimsy-Owl-5563 4h ago

I was expecting 'Ghost of You' and as I was pressing unmute I could practically hear "I never said..."

7

u/MopeyBernese 4h ago

Goose bumps

7

u/Stock_Strategy1668 4h ago

Damn, I was hoping the whole video was posted. I'd have watched the whole thing

5

u/SlapaBaby1 4h ago

Semper Fi!!

5

u/Fearless_Explorer549 4h ago

There are many extremely talented musicians in uniform. Seen Tops in Blue several times on tour. Good stuff

5

u/porkbuttstuff Straight Up Bussin 4h ago

That was awesome. Dude sounded great

4

u/tanafras 4h ago

Boot camp for the trombone guy after 7 years of forced multiple mile marches ages 12 to 17 was cake

-1

u/ContributionIll310 4h ago

Members of the premier marine band in dc do not have to go to basic.

3

u/dit-dah_is_aplha 2h ago

Then how is every Marine a rifleman… they would not Marines then…

3

u/NarrowRoyal5074 4h ago

The singer nailed it!!

13

u/[deleted] 5h ago

[deleted]

2

u/Conscious_Minimum583 4h ago

3

u/pontoponyo 4h ago

Very… Raiders of the Lost Arc

2

u/Salt_Ice_5321 4h ago

What exactly is ironic about this?

13

u/Jazzlike-Lunch5390 4h ago

Hey, your millennial is showing.

5

u/Mediocritys_finest 3h ago

And?

2

u/Jazzlike-Lunch5390 3h ago

I'm not okay, you wear me out.

3

u/Mediocritys_finest 3h ago

So long and goodnight

3

u/EA827 4h ago

I appreciate that they played the album version with the extra verse and not the shortened radio single version

3

u/Frontline99 4h ago

I actually love this!

3

u/Particular_Stomach98 3h ago

Should have been The Ghost of You, really.

3

u/Then_Version9768 1h ago

Don't let sissy Hegseth see this or he'll go all testosterone supplement on you!

3

u/Enough-College8385 1h ago

My Chemical Warfare.

4

u/FartyPat 4h ago

Incoming court marshal. Alpha warriors should not be singing these woke anthems.

7

u/LIONLDN 4h ago

When the beat dropped though! 🥁

2

u/notmuself 4h ago

I would feel like this would be a bad omen considering his brother dies in the music video.

1

u/Tnkr_Brwr_Sldr_Sly 1h ago

It was either this or Ghost of You

2

u/Ok_Eye_8543 4h ago

Well done Marines!

2

u/ShittyBollox 4h ago

This is great!!

2

u/colin8651 4h ago

He really hit the voice shift in “join the black parade”

2

u/pushplaystoprewind 3h ago

This is fucking dope!

2

u/IncendiaryB 3h ago

Such a missed opportunity to perform The Ghost of You.

2

u/Low_Trainer_7363 2h ago

Am I the only one that thought that that ended too soon?

2

u/Do_Good_FL 1h ago

‘‘Twas dope

5

u/tx_hip_ivxx 4h ago

The fact that it isn't Ghost of You is a fucking tragedy

4

u/Matthewcbayer 3h ago

I’ve never felt as fucking patriotic as I do right now

2

u/ContributionIll310 4h ago

The Marine Band is comprised of absolute world class musicians❤️

(Very cool performance by the way.)

The American president should listen to this song. He might understand that his approach to the people of the United States of America is very sad and very wrong.
