Eh while I see what you mean to an extent. But you are wrong on the level that if someone from somewhere else say France in your case. Decided to move to America and become a citizen. They would be French-American not just American. Now if it’s a third or forth generation and beyond that was born on American soil then yeah imo they are just American. Though thats just me personally. But there are definitely Korean-American, Mexican-American, Canadian-American, Chinese-American and the list goes on. There’s a reason the us has been come to be known as the melting pot of the world.

So if someone becomes a French citizen in your eyes they would never be whatever their from- French even if they adopt your language and culture but still keep portions of their own original cultural practices?
In my opinion thats just wrong but everyone is different.

I don’t personally believe myself to be Irish-American or polish-American even if I have ancestors who came over from both nations on ships ages ago. I personally only see myself as American because I’m like 3rd or 4th Generation born here. Depending on which side of my family you look at.

But there are plenty of American people who believe the opposite as you or I and they truly believe they are Irish or polish or German… whatever American simply because they have ancestors who immigrated from there.

Which is funny because when they finally go to visit their supposed ancestors homeland they get so flabbergasted when they get treated like an American tourist rather than a cousin visiting from the other side of the country lol
