How can people be so miserable and possesive of land they don’t own.

98

u/Flaky-Nectarine-9821 12h ago

"It's for people that live here" -- she 100% believes in her little mind that she owns it or at least entitled to it.

40

u/Xalimata 10h ago

"People that live here" means white people in her mind.

u/no_one_denies_this 7h ago

The irony of a white lady yelling at Mexican-Americans to get out.

-1

u/Top_Performance_732 2h ago

How is that ironic

5

u/no_one_denies_this 2h ago

Google the history of California. It was Mexico up until 1848.

1

u/dak4f2 1h ago

It was Mexico for 27 years

-4

u/Top_Performance_732 2h ago

And it is not Mexico now so who cares. Im not some ethno nationalist but I cant these stolen land arguments.

3

u/no_one_denies_this 2h ago

So you are, kinda?

-1

u/Top_Performance_732 2h ago

no because i dont care what ethnicity people are that are living on the land

4

u/OnionBagMan 2h ago

It’s an ironic historical parallel.

17

u/dealingwithhookers 11h ago

then she'll go on vacation and be in our neighborhoods and expect to be treated nice...

3

u/RobertPeruvian 6h ago

This really should be closer to the top

2

u/INfusion2419 6h ago

The truth of the fact is noone picnics there, its never used. Noone ever thinks of using it, but now its under some vague threat that she feels she has to respond to incase she wants her dog to shit there

-13

u/WritersChopBlock 11h ago

No, there is partial validity to her belief…

4

u/FatSteveWasted9 10h ago

How so?

-8

u/WritersChopBlock 10h ago

The city does maintenance and repair of the landscaping and other natural scenery. The city is almost completely funded by town property taxes. Since local residents pay the property taxes, don't you think that the residents are entitled to the use of it?

9

u/FatSteveWasted9 9h ago

Sure, everyone should have a right to use it. No one should have exclusive right to it though. If the city wants to make it exclusively for residents, they should privatize it. Hell, change the city charter to an HOA model and put a gate around it if you want. Until then, it’s public, and out of towners will be sullying your town with their presence.

Folks really think they can go buy a home in one of the most beautiful coastlines on earth and not be bothered by other folks wanting to engage with the wonder.

4

u/leMonkey_2040 9h ago

You have the right to use It if you pay taxes yes, but you cant decide Who use It and when since is not your land, you are paying for its maintenance. I might be wrong because I'm not American and your laws change from state to state.

-1

u/WritersChopBlock 5h ago

I was only asking morally. I know the answer legally. I'm just asking to see what people's opinions are.

5

u/Destithen 6h ago

don't you think that the residents are entitled to the use of it?

  1. What makes you think the people having the wedding aren't local residents?

  2. The karen is perfectly able to still use the park. Other people existing there is not a valid reason to cry foul. In fact, she appears to have been able to successfully walk her dog without issue...or at least, without any issue that she isn't the direct cause of. The guests at the park are not impeding walkways or being rowdy.

  3. Last but not least, let's be clear, this park DOES allow events including weddings. It's so petty and small-minded to be gatekeeping a public park because you apparently hate mexicans and don't want to hear mexican music at a wedding. Playing devil's advocate here isn't a good look. The karen is 100% unarguably in the wrong.

3

u/Sticky_Key_Purgatory 5h ago

You think that only the people who fund the city should get to use the amenities?

You heard the man, we're shutting down los vegas.

1

u/_teach_me_your_ways_ 2h ago

Bet he’d whine if you needed to show ID to enter the park. How else does he expect to keep the others out?

1

u/WritersChopBlock 1h ago

Las Vegas?

That comparison doesn't make sense.

21

u/nagajuseyo 11h ago

I grew up in this area (where this video takes place) and all these people that now live there are a)transplants from other states and b) made money by stepping on the backs of others and c) their spouses all cheat

19

u/naastynoodle 13h ago

People like to blame everything in their shitty lives on other people

4

u/MJEEZY75 9h ago edited 5h ago

“This land is your land. This land is my land. We’re white Christian supremacists. We’ll take what we want. We’ll wipe out your whole tribe. Take your wife and kids as slaves. Force them to convert to Christianity. And still won’t treat them with equity. From sea to shining sea!!!”

2

u/no_one_denies_this 5h ago

I chose my kid's preschool bc when we went to visit, the kids saluted the flag and sang "This Land is My Land." Then we went to the baseball game and she was confused because they brought out the flag and sang another song. She didn't like it bc it talked about bombs.

3

u/silent-sight 11h ago

They’re trying to justify their racism and miserable lives by blaming others for their own problems

3

u/VigilanteLibrarian 6h ago

Saying this as a white person, “possessive of land they don’t own” was kind of our M.O. for centuries, and unfortunately a lot of white people today still have that mindset.

2

u/FTR_1077 13h ago

That's the thing, as far as they know, they do own it..

2

u/HedonisticFrog 11h ago

Some people really have no life and are incessant bullies so they torment everyone around them. One of my neighbors is a massive Karen and reports everyone for every tiny code violation. She even reported my registered and insured car as abandoned while the engine was warm from going grocery shopping.

2

u/SmokedBeef 10h ago

They’re called NIMBY and they’re everywhere

2

u/throwaway371891 10h ago

White people on a daily basis. They think they own the place.

2

u/thededucers 10h ago

I was at the nice dog beach(public), lots of people and their dogs there. A resident of the island came up and was subtly suggesting i should go to other dog beaches. I just kept talking about how nice it was at this dog beach, not giving in to what she was laying down. I stayed happy and “oblivious,” she left unsatisfied.

2

u/Background_Fix9430 5h ago

It doesn't matter to them whether they own it: So long as they can keep brown/black/gay/furry/Democrat people from owning or using it.

1

u/Afiah74 10h ago

Or land they never built 😆😂😅

1

u/Zombies_Rock_Boobs 10h ago

Because she’s miserable. My bet would be she has a couple of divorces under her belt.

1

u/RMRdesign 8h ago

That’s racism in a nutshell.

1

u/sPacEdOUTgrAyCe 4h ago

She’s an angry divoricee

1

u/Other-Potential-661 1h ago

The audacity infuriates me

1

u/ImageAvailable7003 12h ago edited 12h ago

Irony is they cannot rent this space, it is just as much hers as there's. I suspect she was excluded for an event that was not permitted.

Shame on her for the racism though.

-2

u/WritersChopBlock 11h ago

No, local residents pay for the upkeep through their tax dollars. Should she be allowed to exclude minorities from a local park that she wants to enjoy in peace?

3

u/ImageAvailable7003 11h ago

The OP says they are able to rent the space for private events in the description. The city website says "Recreational use of City parks is on a first-come, first-served basis. The City does not reserve or rent parks or barbecue facilities for parties, events or gatherings of any kind." No other information on the page for this specific park.

Given the OP lied to reddit, I suspect the white lady was angry she was excluded from public space, and from her statements aboutbhow frequently this happens, it sounds like it was not for the first time. It's a popular spot, but it's meant for the enjoyment of all people. You can do a public proposal, have a mariachi band and a photographer but it gives you no right to exclusivity.

-1

u/WritersChopBlock 11h ago

I know what the city website says. My point is that the city maintains the park. And the city is funded by local town residents. So local residents pay for the upkeep. Should local residents be allowed to exclude outsiders from using "their" park?

3

u/ImageAvailable7003 11h ago

We don't know what city anyone in the video is a resident of so I really don't know where you are going with this.

No one should be able to exclude everyone else from a space that is public though.

0

u/WritersChopBlock 10h ago

Even if the town pays for the maintenance, which is entirely funded by local residents? Does that change your decision?

2

u/ImageAvailable7003 9h ago

That hypothetical has no relevance. This park has state-level financial support and is, per the city, open to everybody. Furthermore, people generally are more willing to travel for grand proposals than their regular dog walks, she is almost definitely more of a local then they are.

0

u/WritersChopBlock 5h ago

This park has state-level financial support and is, per the city, open to everybody.

Why do you believe this? Are you just hoping or do you know for sure? I might be wrong but the maintenance of most parks in the US are paid by the local city/town. The few bigger ones are paid by the county. the state rarely pays unless it's one of the massive parks that span across the entire state.

Regardless whether it is or isn't, assume it isn't funded by state-level support. Does that change your answer?

1

u/ImageAvailable7003 3h ago

I knew private city parks were rare for this reason, and figured state-level funding of city parks is all the more likely in California and especially beachfronts. Then I looked to confirm.

u/no_one_denies_this 5h ago

Why are you assuming minorities are disruptive?

-1

u/WritersChopBlock 5h ago

I didn't imply that they are. That's what you assumed I was saying.

Not relevant to this discussion, but I do believe immigrant minorities are generally more disruptive. They usually come from poorer family backgrounds, so parenting is less prominent.

2

u/no_one_denies_this 2h ago

Oh, so you're racist.

-1

u/WritersChopBlock 11h ago

They do "own" it because their tax dollars go to its upkeep and they paid a lot of their homes, so they could live near it.

I'm torn (look at my other post), but I'm kinda' siding with you because I think everyone should share something this beautiful. Maybe the state should intervene and pay for the upkeep rather than the locals?

6

u/codegems 10h ago

Right but these people aren't moving in and setting up camp. They're doing a marriage proposal. Whole thing takes an hour max. Not inconvenient at all for her.

It's like if French people started yelling to "go back to your country" because you propose across the Eiffel tower.

The woman in the video is being racist because she's telling them to go back to Mexico for the big crime of... asking someone to marry them at a public park while not being white.

She has no way of knowing if they are citizens or not.

1

u/WritersChopBlock 10h ago

You mistake my post. I'm not condoning what she did. I'm just pointing out a detail you may have overlooked.

1

u/no_one_denies_this 5h ago

Telling someone to go back to Mexico in Southern California is pretty rich.

-5

u/HarambeTooSoon 12h ago

These people are engaging in the same behavior that influencers and streamers engage in, and redditors blasts those people constantly for being obnoxious and entitled about their use of public space for filming and recording content.

"You're ruined my shot" is what wanna be influencers say. These people are staging an event without a permit and then imposing on the public at large their belief they should have uninterrupted use of public space for the simple reason they are holding a camera..

6

u/TheOmegoner 12h ago

Damn, where did you see they don’t have a permit or permission to be there? Local parks in my area are available for events without having to file a permit so I’m interested in how it works there

-2

u/HarambeTooSoon 11h ago

The city of Laguna Beach had to create permit policies because people are constantly traveling there to stage and film content for social media.

I'm guessing your local park doesn't overlook the Pacific Ocean at sunset.

10

u/TheOmegoner 11h ago

None of that explains how you know they don’t have a permit.

3

u/Zachwardpass 10h ago

I have local parks that look directly out on sunsets into the Sound and a couple hours away parks that look directly out onto the pacific ocean. I have no idea what you are upset about. Besides, we have no idea if they had a permit or not.

2

u/Dutch1800 11h ago

Doesn’t change anything stated. The problem is people being entitled to the views god created

4

u/no_one_denies_this 11h ago

They're going to be gone in 30 minutes and people can still sit and enjoy the view or walk their dogs or whatever.

-1

u/WritersChopBlock 11h ago

No, during the summer, out-of-towners, especially minorities, who want to take wedding photos, clog the street and the park grass. It happens all day, every weekend apparently.

4

u/no_one_denies_this 11h ago

Oh no, not the brown people! However will the white people cope?

0

u/WritersChopBlock 11h ago

Should white people be allowed to exclude minorities from using the park that their tax dollars paid for?

1

u/no_one_denies_this 10h ago

Of course not.

1

u/_teach_me_your_ways_ 2h ago

There’s a town in Idaho you would love.

1

u/WritersChopBlock 1h ago

sigh…I never claimed I agreed with it. I am asking you, do you understand the point I'm trying to make?

3

u/Zachwardpass 10h ago

"During the summer"?! You mean when the weather is nice?

"Out of towners"?! Oh, no! Whatever will the local economy do with tourists boosting it?

"Especially minorities"?! Nope, I've got nothing for sarcasm here. That's just a racist dog whistle.

"Clog the streets and park grass"?! So they park their car and enjoy a park?

Wow. How do you survive?! Those completely normal things that happen in parks must be devastating to you!

-1

u/WritersChopBlock 10h ago

Sigh…I am not taking a side. I'm just telling you the facts. I'm hoping people could see both sides of the issue. I've seen similar news stories twice in the past few years so it's an ongoing issue. I don't mean here but other parts of the country.

Btw, you are tweaking the facts so they conform to your preexisting views. For example, you claim that the out of towners will boost the local economy? How do you know it does?

You also claim that parking their cars isn't a big deal, but imagine if it's just a peaceful park located in the interior of a town. Now, imagine that the street is constantly clogged with cars because of this when it would otherwise be completely empty and peaceful. Wouldn't that change the situation a bit?

Again, I'm not picking a side. I'm just presenting a situation.

5

u/no_one_denies_this 7h ago

You clearly are picking a side.

I live near a beautiful beach. Sometimes it's busy. You know why? The beach is lovely, the water is warm, and it's flat and easy to get to. I go often. Other people are allowed to be there too! The ocean and beaches belong to everyone.

1

u/WritersChopBlock 5h ago

No, it's called playing Devil's advocate to encourage thinking and debate.

3

u/no_one_denies_this 5h ago

The devil doesn't need any help.

3

u/Zachwardpass 7h ago

For example, you claim that the out of towners will boost the local economy?

Because that's what tourism does when more people come into your town and inevitably spend money. If you have any statistic that shows this town bucks those trends, I'd certainly be intersted to read it.

I'm just telling you the facts.

No shit, it's a fact it happens more in summer. No shit, more people equals more people on the grass and more parking needed. Can you tell me the point of saying anything about minorities?🤔 That seems like your agenda. Also feel free to back up what you said with proof that it is a fact.

You also claim that parking their cars isn't a big deal, but imagine if it's just a peaceful park located in the interior of a town. Now, imagine that the street is constantly clogged with cars because of this when it would otherwise be completely empty and peaceful. Wouldn't that change the situation a bit?

I have AMAZING parks in my area in the interior of town. Parking and space and people fill up in the summer. No, it doesn't change the situation. It's not just for me to enjoy, it's for everyone. You are just whining.

-1

u/WritersChopBlock 5h ago

wow…perfect example of Dunning-Kruger…

3

u/Zachwardpass 5h ago

Cool. Can you please show me how and what evidence you have? I'd love to learn more to improve my knowledge.

-2

u/HarambeTooSoon 11h ago

You're just inventing logistics you know nothing about fit into the narrative you prefer.

Karen's issue isn't these specific people. Its that these people are just another group of people in a long line of people who are using her local park to stage and film content.

The people recording this video are standing on the paved trail because they are hoping to block members of the public from using the trail so "it doesnt ruin the shot"

The people recording conveniently left out the part where they asked Karen to not use the trail at that time because they were recording content.

3

u/Zachwardpass 10h ago

Oh, no! Do you think she will survive?!😱

Is that also why Karen said some racist shit?

-3

u/HarambeTooSoon 10h ago

Do you think the people recording will survive being told to go back to Mexico?

Everyone is clearly going to survive.

You're out of excuses and now just being hyperbolic.

3

u/Zachwardpass 7h ago

No, I was being sarcastic, because if this is the worse thing that happens in her day to day life, she should count her fucking blessings.

And conflating racism with her poor, poor inconvinience (/s, FYI) of checks notes people being in a park says a lot about your perspective and why you think what she is doing is excusable.

0

u/WritersChopBlock 11h ago

No, the photographers probably do have a permit since it only costs $100. The real issue is whether something a local park should be share with out-of-town people.

2

u/HarambeTooSoon 11h ago

You're inventing parts of a story to fit the narrative you prefer.

You sound like a Republican.

3

u/Zachwardpass 10h ago

Sorry, do you know something about this specific story we don't? Have a link to share? You seem pretty certain everyone else is making up things to fit a narrative, while seemingly using conjecture yourself. Can you share the insider information you have found?

0

u/WritersChopBlock 11h ago

This story comes out every year. There are many similar videos on YouTube.

Everything I said is true. And I may sound like a Republican but I'm only telling the truth.

3

u/no_one_denies_this 5h ago

From the POV of a xenophobic white person.

1

u/WritersChopBlock 5h ago

I didn't state which side I favor. I presented the views of both sides, which you don't like.

-4

u/Lazy-Background-7598 11h ago

The person making the proposal was just as miserable with her stupid t little say hi to TikTok line like she’s a fucking child
