Which is just continuously funny to me when it's said in a place that was Mexico. I really wish history was a bigger thing for everyone. It would really make our society advance rapidly.

these people forgot the damned ALAMO!!!!!!

Mass amounts of old Mexicans were allowed to stay after the war in which we took by force their land. And we were totally cool with that and them back then so I dunno what happened here. Often when talking to Hispanics you're talking to people whose families have literally been American longer than your white ass family whose great grand parents just immigrated here in like the late 1800s early 1900s or maybe even Grandpappy came over in WW2 like my fam lol.

I love pointing out American history to ignorant westerners.

I also love pointing out American history to ignorant Americans.

There's more than you'd be able to imagine, but less than what they think they have in self-support systems.

The conservative wing cultivates this ignorance in both their followers and as many others as they can force it on. Segregated schools was a that in action e.g. Defunding public schools in general now is the new tactic.

Racists like to think of their racism as 'traditional' even if its completely not. Ahistorical appeals to tradition are one of the fundamental underpinnings of conservative thought.

Um... "Remember the Alamo" is a phrase used by Texans to hate on Mexicans because they invaded Texas. It was like specifically promoted by Texans to remind Texans to hate Mexicans.

Let me tell you, it is weird to have one side of my family to have been here since before 1776, and the other side to have immigrated here just two generations before mine.

I know I'm late to this, but I wanted to say thank you. My mother's maiden name is Garcia(I'm a 1/4 Mexican), and I also have multiple different tribes in my lineage on both sidesofmyfamily. (One of which Choctaw)

When I come across these wastes of oxygen who like to say "go home" I ask them if they have any Mexican, or Native ancestors for the the same reasons. I then tell them that if they want to play that game then they need to hop on a boat to head home.

While this country is based on atrocities, we were supposed to develop into a melting pot. Hell...just look at the words inscribed onto the Statue of Liberty's tablet.

I'm not even close to being a pure bread of any nationality, but I believe it's better for a myriad of reasons. When people ask me what my heritage is I tell them that 'I'm a mutt." And I truly am proud of that.

Every road every city is Spanish named. How dense are these type of white people? And surprisingly they somehow are high earners.... White privilege I swear.

Usually moved there from the south.

You’d be surprised how many are from the northeast. They’re not free of racists at all. Tend to be very blatant about it too, like this woman.

They can barely tell it’s in Spanish with the way they pronounce them. Look at how they say Los Feliz or La Jolla. You can’t expect them to be intelligent

It’s literally called “Laguna” beach which is Spanish for lagoon. Dumb bitch

California was part of the Spanish Empire, built on the ruins of the Aztec Empire Spain destroyed. It remained so for about 300 years. Mexico became independent in 1808 and by 1848 it was divided up into Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and Utah. Funny how people tend to skip over centuries of history.

California was not built on the ruins of Aztec empire lol what. In fact California was not that populated except a bunch of missionaries when Spain owned it to force the native Americans to convert to Catholism. Also Mexico didn’t do anything with California in the few decades they owned it with independence that’s why it was easy for the US to take over cause there wasn’t many Mexicans here to begin with.

And those few Mexicans were given a year to become US Citizens. After that year, if they didn't move out, they got automatically granted US citizenship. Imagine that, forcing nationality on Mexicans who were there first. First illegal Mexicans in CA were literally there first.

> California was not that populated

You already know indigenous people lived there. Just because “Mexico didn’t do anything with California” doesn’t mean it’s fine that the US launched a war to own those lands.

My point is that not many Mexicans of Aztec or even Spanish origins went to California because prior to the gold rush and obviously before water was brought to Southern California most people that lived here were small indigenous tribes that were scattered around the area. And a lot of those indigenous tribes were mostly eliminated by the Spanish during the missionary era. So no they weren’t of Aztec descent since that empire was further south. I don’t even think Baja California or the area south of California was really settled or had many people there either since it’s mostly dessert and cities like TJ that sprang across the border only grew big because of America.

1

u/Ok-Parrot-1659 7h ago

I understand your point, I’m just saying indigenous people did live there and the land doesn’t need to be settled to be rightfully Mexican. Though I suppose you’re not exactly saying that the opposite is true - I hope we agree that it’s not.

The Spanish Empire was built on the ruins of the Aztec Empire. The region of California was added to the Spanish holdings and run as such for 300 years. Mexico had it for 40.
