The amount of men I’ve seen running to the comment sections online in the defence of the 7 men who raped a heavily intoxicated and unconscious young woman is very alarming and depressing to see in 2026.

It’s so bad in some corners of the internet - everything from people villainizing and undermining the victim who was raped for seven hours straight, at a frat house she went to with a friend. 50 young men in a group chat that knew what was taking place and none of them offered to help or interject. And the person getting torn to shreds is the woman.

Honestly, the patriarchy has always been a problem for women and men alike in this world (not feminism - as a very confused user said in this comment section) but the uprising of global far right authoritarianism seems to be adding fuel to the already out of control misogyny you can see on display every day out in the real world.

Women are considered a marginalized group in the world amongst those of colour, LGBTQ+, those with disabilities, etc.

We are like a literal line of dominos and if one falls - the rest of the groups are soon to be targeted in the wake.

When it comes to women experiencing sexual abuse and other forms of violence (physical, emotional, verbal) at the hands of men - there are way too many instances of it happening to one woman throughout her lifetime, let alone the all encompassing harassment and abuse that is endured as a whole.

Everything from random attacks by strangers & those familiar to women in their communities - but more often and even more insidious - the violence being conducted against her is most often the men who are the closest. So yes, her father, brother, cousin, friend, boyfriend or more likely than not husband.

It’s something you can find happening to women in every country on the planet - regardless of their standing in society, regardless of finances, upbringing, ethnic background, personality, etc.

It is a large systemic issue that was once put in the spotlight by the me too movement. And now it’s coming back rebranded as “it’s not all men but it’s always a man” or “I choose the bear”.

It will keep happening until something changes and if it doesn’t I think you will continue to see an emergence of more single, childfree women in countries where women are entitled to their freedom and bodily autonomy. You will see more women running for positions in power in society to change the rules from the inside or help women more efficiently (think judges, doctors, politicians, lawyers, etc.).

Women have fought long and hard to get where they are now and aren’t about to stop anytime soon.

TLDR; If you want to be a good man and break the stereotype - good news, it’s really simple.
If you hear or see something that helps support the foundation of violence against women - say or do something to break the cycle. If you don’t, you are part of the problem.

I am very glad I am not around any parts of the internet that is defending rapists... but great comment otherwise. Especially having (positive role model) women (There are also many women upholding the patriarchy or are billionaire grifters themselves) in leadership position does go a long way to change the culture of larger organizations for the better.

The last part though - that is your take on what men should do - and I fully agree to it - but why is the phrasing then "all men" and not something like "be a role model", "against the patriarchy" or whatever other slogan that makes the issue clearer and inclusive.

First off - thank you.

Honestly I shouldn’t have phrased it like that, “corners of the internet”, so that is my bad.

I literally have seen people on Reddit and YouTube (and screenshots from twitter that I never use) commenting in ways that victim blame or question the acts took place - always siding with the abusers, and not just this particular case. Someone mentioned the Pelicot case in this thread for example, and there were a lot of horrific comments I saw about that too when the news broke. I don’t think you have to go digging or be on the dark web to find examples of this online.

It’s very disheartening to see anyways.

The problem with that is that it’s hard to find a good example of a positive role model these days - I mean even the US president is an adjudicated rapist and the far right has weaponized a mass of people to be against feminism and those who challenge the status quo - which unfortunately includes the patriarchy.

yeah any time there's a he said she said society should always immediately dogpile the group of men and they should be executed without trial.

If that’s what you took from everything that I said and your stance on the matter - I genuinely don’t know what to say to you. Take care I guess and thanks for sharing your opinion on the matter.

do you think Jane Doe should be prosecuted because she performed acts on one of the cornell 7 while he was unconscious?

I haven’t seen that alleged anywhere - where is your source from?

I think the investigation into this incident was not sufficient and quite shady, and I am looking forward to a proper deep dive being conducted by the Attorney General Letitia James who has been chosen to take over the criminal investigation.

Also editing to add - rape is immoral and awful regardless of who is the victim. It is a horrific action that can be taken against anyone. Anyone guilty of rape should have to face consequences for their actions in the court of law.
