So that means the cop was fired, right, guys? Right?!

1.5k

u/sexy-man-doll 10d ago

Paid vacation or working at the department a county over AT BEST

775

u/pink_pony_girl2 10d ago

A lot of police departments have unions that protect bad actors. There was a cop who fed a homeless person a literal shit sandwich in Texas. The dept wanted to fire him but the union stepped in and got him reinstated.

648

u/BellamyDunn 10d ago

That's why there can never be good cops. They're all in that club, they all pay into it, they all benefit from this kind of protection. They are all corrupt.

The true meaning of ACAB

→ More replies (4)

219

u/Bruuhhv 10d ago

It is fundamentally impossible for a good cop to exist in the same world that a bad cop exists. The good cop cannot possibly be good unless he arrests the bad cops and we all know that has never happened. The good cop themselves becomes a bad cop the moment they witness or know of a bad cop committing a crime without arresting them. There you go.

82

u/Late_While_6220 10d ago

Christopher Dormer was a good cop but they took care of him really quick.

17

u/AdHopeful3801 10d ago

Frank Serpico has entered the chat...

46

u/DoobKiller 10d ago edited 10d ago

On February 3, 1971, Serpico was shot in the face during a drug raid in Brooklyn. His fellow officers did not call for an ambulance or render immediate aid, leaving him to bleed until a resident in the building called emergency services. He has openly stated he believes he was set up by his department because he broke the "blue wall of silence" to report systemic police graft

He then spend a decade living in Europe to avoid further retribution. It is fundamentally impossible for a good cop to exist in the same world as bad cops, the bad(normal) cops will find a way to get rid of them(either through violence or an other means of forcing them out of the job)

23

u/paper_liger 10d ago edited 10d ago

Well. I'm not certain I'd call him a good cop. Definitely one that was at odds with some other corrupt cops.

And when they tried to 'take care of him' they also attempted to take care of any people of any description in any vehicle even a little similar to the one he was driving.

Then they cornered him and intentionally burned him alive.

They've learned that ignoring people makes them forget and then they can insult and abuse the few people remaining becuase they want answers. Even easier to ignore if the ones complaining are dems becuase they have to use buzzwords to have everyone flip out against them, doesnt even have to be truth, doesnt matter if they get sued and lose. Just pieces of shit the whole way up and down. No accountability, no personal responsibility just a slippery slope theyre pouring oil on and launching themselves over because it budgets keep going up and protections get deeper.

But try that as a citizen? That isn’t a billionaire? You’ll be in jail so fast…

Justice for all is such a joke in the US.

Either way, there's irreparable harm done.

You either admit that a one year old miniature donkey caused an armed police officer to fear for his life, or you admit that there was criminal abuse of lethal force.

The systemic failure that allows for an incident like that without immediate action speaks for itself.

35

u/endmosthope 10d ago

Yes but the harm of not releasing the footage is far more impactful. People resonate with video content that's why they're trying so hard to bury it and hope people will move on. Just admitting that something is as awful as you think holds so much less mental weight than actually seeing it.

29

u/VaginaTractor 10d ago

Guarantee it's because the officer(s) were laughing and joking while they indiscriminately slaughtered a defenseless Donkey.... while trespassing.

16

u/DevilRenegade 10d ago

For sure. Did you see the video of a cop hurling a baby rabbit at his patrol car door?

They thought it was hilarious.

This profession attracts the absolute worst people.

8

u/Significant-Hour4171 10d ago

Someone I knew who was a former cop told me the "hilarious" story about his cop colleagues who repeatedly tried to kill a stray cat that was hanging out at their house. The cat kept returning. Eventually they put it in bag and threw it in a river. It returned again, missing an ear and with maggots in wounds.

They finally shot it.

He was surprised that I found this story disgusting and horrifying. He thought it was a light hearted story!

29

u/Lord_Lorden 10d ago

It's a public record. Under FOIA the police department has no choice.

27

u/whistleridge 10d ago edited 10d ago

It’s not quite that automatic. FOIA is a right to request, not a right to release.

For example, a video that has a naked child wandering around in the background might need to be redacted out, or a video that has a discussion with a confidential drug informant might be refused entirely.

But I agree that it seems phenomenally unlikely that any of the exceptions might apply here. They’re just trying to run out the clock and hoping this goes away.

Jobs that provide blanket authority and the opportunity to bully people and animals without consequence will always attract the cruelest, worst members of society.

It’s why these types who get off on inflicting violence and killing always join the police and military

And american police and military training is designed to weed out anyone capable of empathy or critical thinking, to enable and protect that psychopathic culture, making the trend even worse

I know it would never fly as the standard in a court of law, but I've seen enough justified uses of force where the body cam footage is released picoseconds after the incident that my heuristic is to assume any unreleased body footage means they're in the wrong, 100%.

100

u/PessimiStick 10d ago

My general rule is that police statements are worthless. Video is the only thing that matters. If you don't have video, you obviously did the most heinous thing I can imagine for the situation.

Basically, cops deserve to be viewed in the absolute worst light possible at all times.

18

If the footage clears the department, release it. If it doesn’t, the public deserves to know what happened. Either way, keeping the bodycam hidden for a month only makes the lack of transparency look worse.

187

u/ABC_Family 10d ago

There is no footage that would clear a cop killing a miniature donkey in a pasture.

109

u/Saucemycin 10d ago

In its own enclosed pasture that they went into

57

u/FUBARded 10d ago

Yeah, there's literally no scenario where it's justified.

It'd be like me jumping a fence into someone's garden and killing their fucking chihuahua.

Whether the animal was aggressive or not is utterly irrelevant because the encounter was entirely avoidable, and it'd be trivially easy to disengage from the encounter without harming the animal (if we give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was too dark for them to realise they didn't need to enter the paddock).

The absolute best case scenario for the cops is that the video shows the donkey wasn't visible, trotted up, and they panicked and opened fire meaning they're hiding it because of the disgusting incompetence.

I think it's far more likely that they killed the animal for fun though, as admitting to the lesser evil (if it were true) would be less disastrous PR than the current speculation. If they had video that showed they were just incompetent rather than psychopaths, it would've been released by now.

12

u/Saucemycin 10d ago

They said they were using a search dog to try to find a missing kid and it alerted around the pasture so that’s why they were there. I didn’t think that would enable them to enter a fenced private area without permission though which I can only guess they didn’t ask for

12

u/East_Requirement7375 10d ago

Police dogs are their 4th amendment skeleton key.

u/Twink_Ass_Bitch 10d ago

30 dogs a day are killed by police officers.

Lots of cops are psychopaths which is why the police dept is afraid to release the video saying it would destroy them. Think about that.

18

u/ShadowWukong 10d ago

Theyd just get suspended with pay(tax payers money) or get fired and hired the next town over.

I mean, what normal sized adult could claim to be in fear for their life from a miniature donkey? Especially a very well socialized one?

It's insulting to even claim that as a possible defense.

10

u/Acceptable-Olive-445 10d ago

I mean i have been on a farm and any kind of donkey can be legitimately nasty if they feel like it but that one looks absolutely adorable. Also angry donkeys tend to look angry. (Seriously a pissed off donkey is awful) but randomly shooting a clearly nice little donkey who wasn't showing signs of aggression makes it sound like they were city people who panicked and are trying to avoid responsibility.

They’d release the body cam if it exonerated them

58

u/Cyyer 10d ago

This made me so incredibly sad. I’ve been around all types of animals and the average person would be surprised by how much every species can care and love. I’m so sorry for this sweet baby and although nothing can bring them back I hope there is comfort knowing people care and feel for you.

Rest in piece and love HeeHaw

23

u/bakeacake45 10d ago

There’s more comfort in knowing the Jerk who shot him is off the police force. What’s next ? Shooting a 4 year old in the midst of a tantrum? For the public’s safety he needs to be gone.

19

u/ChevalierMal_Fet 10d ago

How about throwing a flashbang grenade into a child's crib?

https://abcnews.com/blogs/headlines/2014/05/baby-in-coma-after-police-grenade-dropped-in-crib-during-drug-raid

12 years ago, and yet still nowhere near the worst thing that's been done by police in this country.

28

u/theateroffinanciers 10d ago

The people have a right to view that body cam. And any other footage that was taken of that night, which apparently there was from surveillance cameras. The family deserves to see all that footage. The fact that we haven't, means they are covering up for their shitty Department. And I hope people do not let go of the pressure. If we move on to the next thing, nothing is ever going to change. Don't let that baby donkey's life be taken in vain.

Cops kill so many pets each year it’s actually insane.

We’re talking 10,000 pet dogs annually, just being murdered by cops. And these are just what’s reported by the Justice Department.

u/mamasab Why does this app exist? 10d ago

I hope she gets everything she’s suing for.

17

u/TheYellowFringe 10d ago

They wouldn't release the footage.

Why?

Because if it would further incriminate the police they would make it public.

16

u/Numb-and-Done 10d ago

This shit still pisses me off dude. There needs to be more fucking accountability in the United States. This place is such a fucking shit hole.

If you're scared of a fucking donkey you shouldn't be trusted to be a police officer and certainly shouldn't be trusted with a gun.

33

u/Tedsmith24 10d ago

If you feel your life can be threatened by a baby donkey, a donkey that doesn't eat meat btw, then you shouldn't be going around carrying a badge and a deadly weapon. Simple

16

u/HiddenMonkey7 10d ago

100%. There’s more requirements to be a cashier at a Wawa than there are to be a cop.

18

u/Stumpyflip 10d ago

You don't release the truth because the truth is so horrid. Fuck that shit. The truth is the truth.

14

u/fleshlessmetalpiston 10d ago

It could be a golden retriever running in daylight bringing the pig a toy and they would still blast it. Its the fucking training, they are taught that everything they come across means to do them harm/murder them. They are trained to be hammers, so everything is a nail to them.

12

u/Latter_Worth_3916 10d ago

Listen I get it. They don't want their department to look bad, but it already looks bad.

We are more angry at the officer who did this then the police department. Just sacrifice the officer and pay out the lawsuit and this goes away.

Email the police chief! Call the police department. Harass these hick cops

47

u/wolfonweed 10d ago

They were committing a crime when they killed the donkey. They've lied multiple times saying they were searching for a missing person, but no missing person was reported.

We still have no idea why these cops were illegally trespassing without a warrant in the middle of the night.

They have only killed and lied while providing absolutely no benefit to their community and breaking laws to do it. It's mind boggling that their existence is tolerated.

Only in america.

9

u/VoidOmatic 10d ago

Sounds like they were looking for an animal to kill.

We need to come together as a society and END qualified immunity so that 🚔 can finally be held ACCOUNTABLE 💯

11

u/liquidsyphon 10d ago

You shouldn’t be law enforcement if you are scared of a baby donkey

26

u/degentrified 10d ago

Why would you fucking kill a donkey? What does this have to do with "protect and serve"

8

u/Iveray 10d ago

"To protect and to serve" was an LAPD motto. The Supreme Court has ruled in several cases that police aren't actually expected to "protect and serve" the general public.

I'm sure the bodycam channels on YouTube are already fighting them over FOIA requests.

11

u/TexasDad4Ever 10d ago

Sue for release of the footage. Then, release the footage to the public. File civil suit for damages. Force the city and PD to take disciplinary and administrative action.

10

u/blumoparlady 10d ago

😢 heartbreaking 💔

11

u/gotham-acolyte 10d ago

Police are prolific murders of pets and don't have to disclose it or even justify It in a lot of cases. There are legitimate serial killers of animals on the police force throughout the county.

10

u/wildalexx 10d ago

Cedartown, Georgia police dept has their reviews turned off. Release the Heehaw footage, cowards

10

u/Regular_Regular_4120 10d ago

You're gonna hear those pigs mimicking and mocking the cries of pain from the donkey. I just know it.

22

u/720r 10d ago

The saddest part is in the US, pets are only seen as “property” and only can only typically recover the cost to replace a donkey in court. So unfair

20

u/Cloudy_Retina 10d ago

Owner Hannah Israel has filed a federal lawsuit against Officer Trenton Garner and issued a $1 million legal demand against the City of Cedartown and the police department.

Officer Garner was placed on administrative leave following the shooting, and further decisions regarding the public release of evidence like body-camera footage depend on the progression of the ongoing state investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.

It's weird. Not too long ago there was some ostriches that got put down because they were infected. For months on Facebook I'd see complaints from the right over it.

There is nothing about this poor donkey on their Facebook. They're the real jackasses.

10

u/thinkB4WeSpeak 10d ago

Police departments are full of shitty people and it's only going to change when they're actually held accountable, either by the courts or the people that outnumber them.

8

u/BaeIz 10d ago

Release the heehaw footage

19

u/lyricjax 10d ago

Classic Cops killing Innocent things because they are too scared to do the job the signed up for.

New prereq for cops: military grade training so you dont get scared everytime your life is threatened (litterally in the job description)
