Discussion The easiest $30k this guy ever made

On October 26, 2022, the judge ruled that Walden's contact with Land should have ended when it became clear that Land was not sleeping in the park or in need of assistance, and that the city was not responsible for Walden's actions.

On November 22, 2022, the city settled the lawsuit for $30,000.

Nah, that's because we don't want to be fuckin bothered during the only 30 minutes of peace we have during the day.

You have to leave the workplace if you don't want to get sucked into work conversation

In a normal country, you can just go to a local park and have that exact peace.

That americans have to flee to their car in order to get 30 minutes free of harassment is abnormal.

I’m a single guy in the US and ate my lunch in parks hundreds of times and never had an issue. This person getting harassed isn’t the norm in my experience.

It sounds like the right Karen found the right bored cop who thought he was Chris Hanson.

Something can be “not the norm” and still be happening waaaaay the fuck too much

If you take one person’s anecdotal evidence and turn it into an all-encompassing statement about an entire country people aren’t going to take you seriously.

Americans aren't (and this is an American site, so you're being upvoted), but most Americans haven't traveled somewhere else to observe that there are different ways to live.

What does being worldly have anything to do with the what /u/Extension_Strike_781 is saying?

It would be just as messed up if the subject is another nationality.

Silly comment; they don't need to have traveled anywhere else in order to assert that iHateThisPlaceSoBad's comment is not an all-encompassing statement about life in the US. Whether or not life here is the same as other places is irrelevant to that.

You don't, thats one person's experience. I spend a lot of alone time at the park or beach during the day while my wife is at work and ive yet to have anyone say anything, other than the occasional person striking up a conversation.

This is such a weird view of the US. You can absolutely eat lunch in a park in any city in the US. Some people eat in their car for privacy, but it's not like they are forced or have no other options.

I don't even have a car to eat my lunch in because I catch a train to work like in a normal first-world country with a functioning public transport system.

Visited London a few months back and some locals brought me to a park for pizza and beers while we kicked a soccer ball around. No one bothered us until the park was closing; it was refreshing

I use to go eat in parks on my work breaks.

I was never harassed about it.

u/SpicyElixer 26d ago

Tbf most people are able to do that. You’re having conversations with abnormal people.

"I had a different experience than others. That means that something is wrong with them."

You can go to the park and see tons of people enjoying themselves peacefully.

You:

“I had x experience - it must happen to everyone.”

This thread is just a bunch of miserable people being miserable. It’s a Reddit circle jerk. Luckily real life is not like Reddit.

Local park doesn’t exist for a lot of Americans in any case haha

The amount of people seeing you eat and thinking "now's a good time for chit chat!" is astonishing.

I'm eating. Leave me the **** alone.

In France, article R4228-19 says that workers must leave their workplace for lunches, they cannot eat it inside their offices where they can continue working.

Honestly, this is common because it's a retreat in your own personal and quiet space, not because of a lack of parks.

Back in the day my buddy was a jimmy John’s delivery driver, so he was in his car most of the day. For his lunch break he’d usually sit in the corner of the shop and watch something on YouTube, etc. he said 50% of the time a coworker would interrupt him to chat despite him having headphones in and clearly watching something lol. So he just started eating in his car too

u/scottfarris 26d ago

No you didn't.

0

u/silly-gaijin 26d ago

Cops will arrest you for doing that, too. I've literally seen a half dozen videos on YouTube of cops saying people are being suspicious for eating in their cars and most of those cases escalated to violence.

Americans need policing reforms badly.

0

u/Ok-Butterscotch-6955 26d ago

Cmon lol this is never something I’ve seriously encountered.

You can shit talk our policing system and be very correct but I don’t think it’s generalizable that cops will arrest you for eating lunch in your car.

2

u/silly-gaijin 26d ago

It never happened to me therefore it never happens, even though I can watch videos of it happening to dozens of people!
