Discussion The easiest $30k this guy ever made

On October 26, 2022, the judge ruled that Walden's contact with Land should have ended when it became clear that Land was not sleeping in the park or in need of assistance, and that the city was not responsible for Walden's actions.

On November 22, 2022, the city settled the lawsuit for $30,000.

Isn’t this literally what parks are for?

Cant have fun unless in a sanctioned way. God forbid anyone see you anywhere near the state of falling asleep, the state where you literally cannot harm anyone in any way.

Unless you’re the president, and it’s during a meeting

You literally can’t take a nap at a beach near me. If they catch you sleeping they charge you with camping and there’s no camping allowed.

HOWEVER, and this is the craziest part, you can spend the entire night on the beach, but ONLY if you stay awake.

My friends spent the night hanging out, partying all night until dawn. Rangers came by and caught one of them with his eyes closed and they all were ticketed for camping.

This is literally the reason I don't want to travel to the US anymore

lol I promise you it's not as bad as social media makes it out to be. There are Karens all over the world. Our biggest issue is that cops don't even need a degree lol and they clearly don't learn how the law works in the police Academy. But I've been on the Earth for 38 years and I've never met one bad cop. It's just easy to post about all the bad ones.

No i get that, I agree on cops not being as bad as people especially here on reddit make make it out to be (I watch your bodycams) but just that law existing makes it a risk for me that I'm not willing to take. I want to take my tent with me and not have to worry about accommodation when I don't need to but also not have to worry about potential trip ending fine or godforbid jailtime or worse if I do get unlucky with a bad apple.

Yes but if you're asleep you also aren't spending money. Until they fine you for sleeping.

America: the land of fuck you and the home of pay me.

Yes but it bristles up against anti-homeless and old racist loitering laws. Can't be anywhere someone doesn't want you to be doing something someone doesn't want you to do, and you better not be doing "nothing" for too long either.

Anti-homeless = yes

old racist loitering laws = no

They do not care who they ticket and jail. We are all cash cows to them

Yes. What's happening is that they can't put everyone in jail, it's too expensive. So they're gonna make our homes prisons instead, bit by bit.

Here before too long you won’t be able to own anything.

CoVid: Been there. Done that.

They just assume that anyone laying in a park is homeless by default.

5

u/poopyheadthrowaway 26d ago

Where I grew up, people assumed you were homeless if you were walking along the street (most streets didn't have sidewalks).

Unless of course if you're wearing shorts, a T-shirt and jogging. Just make sure you aren't a POC. Otherwise you may get chased down by said neighbors and shot (like that guy in GA)

In the US, you have to pay to belong/exist. If you're not paying then you're suspicious.

u/ayriuss 26d ago

In many other countries you aren't even allowed to be homeless, the government just abducts you and forces you to live indoors or get drug/mental health treatment. Its actually a bug in our system where its basically illegal to be homeless, but also illegal for the government to force you to get help or into housing.

It used to be.

Now they are made primarily to create buffer zones around property owned by the wealthy.

You gotta pay for the sleeping permit.

In Europe. They're great, people everywhere chilling on blankets and openly drinking wine or beer!

In some places, parks are there to be used. In many, I'm convinced they're there to increase real estate values.
