Discussion This is a disaster waiting to happen.

The dog isn’t allowed to be around a toddler because he growls at her. I don’t get it. A family dog is supposed to get along with the whole family. Why are the parents concerned about why the dog “doesn’t like her”? What about the child’s safety?

I’m sorry this happened to you, sadly know exactly how you feel. Neighbors pitbull finally got loose and attacked my husband and our dog. Pit went straight for my dogs face, wouldn’t let go, husband ended up on the ground between them. Luckily, the pit was hyper focused on our dog and didn’t try to bite hubby, giving me time to run out in my freaking pjs and chase him off. I’ll never forget the screams my poor boy made.

We’ve been stressed for months since it happened. The neighbors are pissed at us for calling the cops after they ignored the situation and just put their dog in the house and bailed. Just went to court last week and the judge was not having any of my neighbors BS. She tried arguing that he wasn’t a dangerous dog and that he didn’t actually bite hubby, his injuries were “just road rash”.

Man, if looks could kill. Judge just glared at the neighbor and asked her if hubs would have gotten the road rash if her dog wasn’t loose and attacking….no answer.

These people get dogs they can’t control, refuse to do anything like proper training, and cry that it’s unfair that their dog is punished for a “simple mistake” that leaves others maimed or dead.

I hope your boy makes a full recovery and you regain some sense of peace on your walks again.

what was the outcome of the court case?

They were found guilty of harboring a dangerous animal. Which comes with restitution for our vet bills, and fines owed to the state. They have to pay a yearly $1k fine and register the dog as dangerous. Proper enclosure that’s fully enclosed (kind of like a wolf enclosure) needs to be built for outside. Dog must be muzzled at all times. And they’ll need a $50k add on for their homeowners insurance.

If these stipulations are not met, the dog may be seized and/or they may face jail time.

So you guys won? Is this the normal outcome, like are those the standard punishments? Are you happy with it? Sorry, I don’t have any experience with this and I’m just interested! Sorry about your husband and dog going through that too.

Yes, these are the standard repercussions by law in our state. State technically won as they pressed charges, not us. We are somewhat happy in the sense that the dog can no longer try to attack our dogs, as it has done for years, and they need to muzzle it and keep it secure. If they don’t follow the rules set forth by the state, they’ll be reported and deal with further legal repercussions from there.
