Angered at the GoFundMe support? Why?

515

u/biffNicholson Aug 22 '26

a lot of folks perceive that if anyone gains something, be it through work, donation, etc,

then, they are directly losing something because that person gained a donation, on some other benefit.

basically they see any gain be another person, as a direct , immediate loss to them. Their logic is faulty of course, but we're not working with the sharpest blades in the drawer here

I bet the same people donate to “cancelled” grifters GoFundMe’s.

I sense it’s about more than GoFundMe’s.

That’s EXACLTY what happens. It’s very common and certain groups attract this sort of person. I have family like that. Can’t stand hearing about black athletes signing big contracts. Can’t stand the thought of immigrants or refugees receiving aid. They are so pro deportation and get enraged talking about illegal aliens even though they’ve lived their whole life in Michigan and have never even interacted with non English speaking people.

“If someone else is getting something, then I’m losing something” is one of the driving forces behind their shitty behavior. That’s how Trump has convinced poor white people to support him. He gets them riled up saying “these people are taking the things you should have” all the while taking every government benefit away from them

They would rather keep our shitty healthcare system and be ruined by medical bills than have universal healthcare that might help someone else from a group of people they don’t like.

I have family in the UP that are like this. They are so worried about Mexican immigrants, yet I doubt they have ever seen a single Mexican person up there.

This reminds me of my coworker many years ago, during the Obama care days. The day after it passed in congress, he was foaming at the mouth, stomping around the office going on and on about how his tax dollars were going to go to waste to pay for other peoples health care.

I liked the dude, so he must have really hit a nerve when I called him out in front of everyone.

I said my tax dollars are going to waste toward his ass who collected disabled vet benefits when he was perfectly healthy. (He bragged about his 70%)

We almost got into a fist fight, but the other lads in the office broke us up. So crazy how some people think it's a sin if others get some kind of assistance in life. (yes he called himself Christian as well)

u/Joeness84 Aug 22 '26

Gofundme actually usually gets rid of the "bad" ones. Givesendgo is the one that funds racists for being racists.

Details matter, inform the masses.

2

u/hcoverlambda Aug 22 '26

Jesus, this is such a good point. True motivation exposed.

38

u/Ok-Addition1264 Aug 22 '26

They're easy enough to ignore.. except for the doxxing thing. That's bullshit.

10

u/Jambohh Aug 22 '26

No one can unconvince me that most of the population treat life like a zero sum game

51

u/DJEvillincoln Aug 22 '26

So, Republicans...? 🧐

1

u/ThrowAwayAccountAMZN Aug 22 '26

Which is ironic considering how much money they throw at diaper Donny themselves, but again, not the sharpest blades

-3

u/pgtvgaming Aug 22 '26

WTF! Biden clearly up to his shenanigans

again

u/WiglyWorm Aug 22 '26

This is why people get so pissed off at the steady march towards equality.

You can't gain a step towards being equal, because if that happens I lose a tiny iota of my superiority (over the underclass, nevermind that billionaire behind me).

-6

u/JK_NC Aug 22 '26

I’m going to guess with the gofundme situation, there’s a specific person you can blame.

12

u/WiglyWorm Aug 22 '26

What, exactly, are we "blaming" someone for doing?

What was the great sin?

Unless you're talking about the conspiracy to turn basic utilities into a commodity to siphon money away to the capitalist class. We can definitely blame those responsible for that. As an ohion who has watched First Energy take billions from the state only to pay out corporate bonuses while our grid fails around us, I understand that.

But I don't think that's what you're talking about.

1

u/JK_NC Aug 22 '26

This comment thread is talking about people getting upset if someone else gets a benefit (like gofundme) and the commenter above asked why people would get upset at someone receiving a gofundme benefit but not get upset at policy that legislated more equity/benefit for broader groups of people. My response was that perhaps it’s bc with the gofundme, there’s a specific person receiving the benefit.

1

u/WiglyWorm Aug 22 '26

I am the commenter above and I was just agreeing with biff, not asking anything.

1

u/JK_NC Aug 22 '26

Ahh. lol. I should pay attention to usernames.

7

u/DinoBen05 Aug 22 '26

This is why people hate so many social services. Like in studies over and over and over they’ll tell an entire focus group “this non profit raised enough money to help Latino kids get meals after school. You literally do not pay for it and it won’t affect you at all! Do you support this initiative?” And inevitably everyone in the study is like “NO! WHAT ABOUT MY KIDS?! WHY ARE THEY TAKING MONEY AWAY FROM ME?!” And it’s like.. yah they literally just told you that’s not what is happening but.. You can’t fix stupid!

Not you literally proving their point on a hypothetical example 🫠

7

u/YooGeOh Aug 22 '26

I bet a bunch of them donated to the racist woman in the kids playground though

6

u/ER_Support_Plant17 Aug 22 '26

Everything is a 0 sum game to them

2

u/free_based_potato Aug 22 '26

this is called zero sum

4

u/fingertrapt Aug 22 '26

It's why Americans don't have Healthcare or anything else.

1

u/purrmutations Aug 22 '26

Nobody thinks that way lmao. People are simply jealous

1

u/Kingken75 Aug 22 '26

Wait til they hear about all the billionaires

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Art9802 Aug 22 '26

Prisoner’s dilemma. Watch the old clips of money balls

1

u/greenthumbgoody Aug 22 '26

And you just explained deep seeded racism

1

u/dontwantoknow Aug 22 '26

Unless they are ones getting the gain then it's appropriate. Brain rot.

1

u/SomeDisplayName Aug 22 '26

It's the same logic of treating any minority / oppressed groups as leeches - how dare other people get respect or resources, they're less than me! Life is a zero-sum game to them, and apparently winning can come from inflicting suffering on the "losers".

1

u/fbass Aug 22 '26

Replace Gofundme with universal healthcare and free education, then it makes sense what is happening in this country

1

u/Blindtothesided Aug 23 '26

That’s so fucked up, those people doxxing her could’ve gotten her entire family killed with that shit. All it takes is one greedy ass mf with a gun to get it in his head that she has stacks of cash in the house.

1

u/spekt50 Aug 23 '26

Life is a zero sum game to them.

0

u/Pienix Aug 22 '26

Except, of course, if it's a racist mom. Then they deserve the money for 'standing their ground' and 'telling it like it is'.

u/Girl-Understood Aug 22 '26 edited Aug 22 '26

They think she's obligated to distribute the funds ($23k) and save everybody instead of taking care of her family

101

u/Major-Platypus2092 Aug 22 '26

Interesting because $23K isn't $23 million. $23K will not save Gary Indiana. If it would, it'd already be saved.

41

u/Dreamlion_Inc Aug 22 '26

Hell if I had $23k in funds the first thing I’d do is move out of Gary, Indiana

13

u/Major-Platypus2092 Aug 22 '26

Probably a wise decision. I've had family live nearby and... not by choice.

1

u/madmelly Aug 23 '26

I live in Gary by choice. There are million dollar homes a few blocks from me and I’m on the border of a state and national park.

1

u/Major-Platypus2092 Aug 23 '26

Cool, then. Good to know the area doesn't need any help!

1

u/madmelly Aug 23 '26

We don’t want help from bigots like you.

1

u/Adventurous-Brain-36 Aug 23 '26

Did you report her?

1

u/madmelly Aug 23 '26

No. What a weird thing to say.

1

u/Adventurous-Brain-36 Aug 23 '26

Just a question.

26

u/elzibet Aug 22 '26

Yeah I’m reading there are over 67k people in that city. Not even 50 cents could go to each person! Jfc people are so dumb

8

u/Waiting4Reccession Aug 22 '26

They dont care about the other people there lmao, they just want her to give them money and they dont care about anyone else there.

-5

u/IndependenceIcy9626 Aug 22 '26

Sure it wouldn’t save the whole city, but like also who needs $23k as an individual for a blackout?

For $23k her whole family could go on vacation to the Bahamas until they get the power back up.

4

u/Major-Platypus2092 Aug 22 '26

I understand and agree that it'd be great to spread the funds. I just think it's wild to say that about $23K specifically.

-3

u/IndependenceIcy9626 Aug 22 '26

At some point they just probably should have started refunding the donations or donating them to some org buying people supplies. It’s just crazy to raise $23k for yourself because of a blackout, even if it’s been 2 weeks.

My area was without power for a bit over a week after hurricane sandy. It sucked, and day to day shit was more difficult, but nobody needed tens of thousands of dollars to cover themselves. Even with lost wages, having to drive far for gas and needing fresh food everyday, we’re talking like $3k maybe for a family to cover everything.

4

u/Major-Platypus2092 Aug 22 '26

I think you are.... way misunderstanding the situation in Gary right now.

-1

u/IndependenceIcy9626 Aug 22 '26 edited Aug 22 '26

Uhh no actually, I experienced the same situation…

Again, my whole area was without power for more than a week after a hurricane

Specifically this one…

0

u/TheOGPotatoPredator Aug 23 '26

They’re going on two weeks in areas with high crime, boil advisories, debris still in the streets and sewage backing up. The first story I saw was a woman in her car at night talking about batteries and flashlights but she kept looking around and wanted to hurry the reel along in order to not draw attention to herself with the car light on.

I’m a diehard Batman fan but living in a place comparable to Gotham has got to suck.

2

u/IndependenceIcy9626 Aug 23 '26

Yeah I get that. I didn’t live in a high crime area, but the rest was my experience after Sandy. The situation really sucks. That’s not an excuse to take in 10x as much as you need.

Think of it this way. If someone started a charity to get mosquito nets to fight malaria, took in $25k, spent $3000 to get nets for their family, and then just pocketed the rest, would you be cool with that? Malaria is still a serious issue but the money here isnt actually going to the issue.

1

u/OpticalPrime35 Aug 23 '26

Yeah let's ask why someone needs 23k for their family for an unexpected blackout in the hottest part of summer and then turn around and condemn people for asking why someone needs to make 23k in 20 seconds like these billionaires do

0

u/IndependenceIcy9626 Aug 23 '26

You’re barking up the wrong tree. I’m very much against all the billionaires.

I’ve also lived through a prolonged blackout after hurricane Sandy, and know that if your house didn’t get structural damage, and the powers just out in your area for a couple weeks, then you’re just pocketing like $20k out of the $23k in donations.

I feel for the people in Gary, being without power and other services even temporarily sucks. I still don’t think it’s ethical to PROFIT off that from peoples donations.

1

u/OpticalPrime35 Aug 23 '26

It doesn't matter what you think

The people made 23k. Who are you to question if they need it.

Thats what the real issue is. You actually having an issue with someone getting 23k in donations to help them out during a bad time. B

You have already barked up the wrong tree with your first ignorant statement

-1

u/IndependenceIcy9626 Aug 23 '26 edited Aug 23 '26

So you don’t care at all that they made like 10x in DONATIONS over the high end of what they’d need for the situation? And somehow I’m wrong for thinking that just pocketing that money is greedy? Ok bud

Y’all aren’t actually thinking about this at all. You saw what’s upvoted in the thread and hopped on that bandwagon to try to feel morally superior. Taking way more than you actually need from people’s goodwill during an emergency situation is not ethical. Defending that doesn’t make you the good guy, just wacky and gullible.

1

u/OpticalPrime35 Aug 23 '26

Nope

Because it was people's choice to donate to them.

The real crazy shit is you actually care people donated money to help them out.

Did they say " oh hey we are asking for this money to cure cancer while we are without power ". Nope.

What's funny is you want to think others aren't thinking about the situation or whatever lol. No we just don't give a shit that someone asked for help and people CHOSE to help them out and it ended up being a decent amount of money.

Attacking this doesn't make you smart or superior. It really just makes you a pathetic asshole

0

u/IndependenceIcy9626 Aug 23 '26 edited Aug 23 '26

I’m not thinking that yall aren’t thinking about. You aren’t. You switched from “how do you know they don’t need $23k?” to “I’m fine with them profiting off donations from this emergency situation”.

I don’t care that people donated money to help them out. I care that they raked in $20k more than they realistically needed, while everyone without a vlog got jack shit. Because that’s unethical.

You can call me a pathetic asshole if that makes you feel better, but that doesn’t change that you got caught with your pants down here. You started by implying I simp for billionaires, who make their money unethically by exploiting people and taking more than what’s fair. You’re now defending someone making their money unethically by exploiting people and taking more than what’s fair. So which is it?

You cool with it if I start a charity and just pocket 95% of the donations? People chose to give right?

1

u/0ceandrifter Aug 23 '26

Her roof repair, and water damage repair would cost half of that

77

u/BoredAsFuck7448 Aug 22 '26

It's GoFundMe, not ComeFundUs. It's unfortunate that other people are unable to set up similar support for themselves but having a social media following is a game changer.

27

u/iamPendergast Aug 22 '26

Like a functional government even?

18

u/BoredAsFuck7448 Aug 22 '26

Functional government? In the U.S.? What kind of nonsense is this? You'll get dystopian hellscape like the rest of us and you'll like it.

-1

u/drsoftware Aug 22 '26

Like Communism? /s

2

u/iamPendergast Aug 22 '26

reddit doesn't know about /s sarcasm anymore it looks like 🤦‍♂️

36

u/picklerick2727 Aug 22 '26

I really hope she ends up with double the amount

2

u/Exterminator-8008135 Aug 22 '26

They just confirmed why she is right to hate the community.

It's as if i had lost food because of an outage, Ask a gofundme to buy food, It blows up and parasites think i owe them.

Man, Fuck y'all ! It's one of you who stole a large recycling trash can, that was distrubuted in small number 15 years ago because you think this belong to you when it's OURS.

But i will have my answer in 3 days, I will recognize it, and i'll have a few words with them.

2

u/Nelliell Aug 23 '26

Honestly, just repairing her roof is gonna take the bulk of that. $500-1K to replace any food that spoiled, even if she was to donate the rest to her community after taking care of her family's needs, it wouldn't be much.

1

u/0ceandrifter Aug 23 '26

Yeah, the roof repair is essential. They'll need mold remediation too

94

u/BubbleCrum Aug 22 '26

Maybe she wasnt racist enough.

10

u/PaintedDesertSkies Aug 22 '26

Jealousy. "Why is she getting something and I am not?"

18

u/ol_dirty_applesauce Aug 22 '26

GoFundMe is only meant for racists that have suffered financial consequences for their bigotry.

22

u/WorldofNails Aug 22 '26

No. That's give,send,go.

9

u/daphosta Aug 22 '26

Because she's black

4

u/Dreamlion_Inc Aug 22 '26

Because crabs in a barrel

If the community is suffering you have to as well

1

u/OnIceJuice Aug 22 '26

But they willingly donate to that crazy bitch who killed her 3 kids. Make it make sense

1

u/UNKN Aug 22 '26

Because people feel the need to be insufferable twats.

1

u/scartrace Aug 23 '26

Because it was just all for her, a black woman, and not "the community" 🙄
