This is stupid. I take my minor children places all the time and sign a waiver for stuff like that. You don't need an ID for that. Definitely didn't need to involve the cops.

Remember when you’re pulling yourself up by your boot straps that there white ones and you’ll be fine, it’s not that hard people /s but it should be obvious
