How to Make Thief 1 and 2 Work On Your Machine (NewDark 1.28)
Been seeing a lot of posts having trouble getting 1.28 either over their old install or not being sure on which installers to use. Hoping that this video can help a little bit.

Question What Thief Game Do You Have The Strongest Connection With?
The first Thief game I played was Thief (2014) on PS4, but I recently picked up Thief Gold, and I’m really, really liking it so far.
I honestly didn’t expect a game from the late ’90s to feel this polished. It still feels rewarding and fair, and I really like how much the game expects you to figure things out for yourself and use the environment as a tool to complete the level.
What Thief game do you have the strongest connection with and why?

He’s so fucking ugly i need him
I have a soft spot for low quality/ugly plushies of characters I like and if this wasn’t by BitBot i would have 100% bought it but omg 😭😭 Who approved of this — I mean I personally love it, but for appealing to the masses?? C’mon guys LOL
(Credit to my friend for editing the image xD)

Fan Mission Chill (festive) fan missions
Hey!
Looking for fan missions that have a cozy, chill atmosphere with bunch of NPCs around similar to the Very Thiefy Christmas.
Bonus points if it has:
1. An open environment. (as in city streets rather than catacombs)
2. Festival feel to it.

Posting Hedon so you are aware this game is VERY Thief-like in atmosphere

Despite this game being mostly a GZDoom shooter, the atmosphere, level design and progression logic is very Thief-like. Huge non-linear levels, tons of secret passages, the sounds. It even has some references to the Hammerites. Average level takes around 40 mins.
P.S. As a bonus, some of the music is written by the mighty Alexander Brandon!

I'm obsessed with Thief 1 but really don't like Thief 2
Am I the only one?
I really, really love Thief 1: the atmosphere, the engine, the sound, the level design, the exploration. Everything. I'm 33 years old and I played it only in 2025, and Thief became probably my fav game ever with Super Metroid, and I played a lot of games that usually don't give me anything.
But dunno why Thief 2 really lack the claustrophobic, esoteric, hard and satisfying exploration of Thief Gold, and to be honest I found it just boring. Everyone else have my same feeling about it? Also couse seems that the majority consider the 2 above 1.

Discussion I miss Thievery UT
I really enjoyed this Unreal Tournament mod back in the day. I was absolutely terrible at it, but I found it was a great multiplayer version of Thief. I wonder if there will ever be anything to replicate that experience in today's gaming market. It does seem like the masses want 100 hour long RPG's that take an age to learn rather than a sneaky game, and loads of work must have gone into Thievery to make it what it was.

It's the spookiest month of all
What horror-themed FM is your favorite? Any particular recommendations or anything you're planning to play in these times of frights?

Hey, Taffers! RetroSpace is finally out on Steam and consoles. The Looking Glass philosophy and the Thief games in general were huge inspirations for the game, which will be obvious from the first moment. Hope many of you will give it a chance! Thanks!

Hate Bitbot and I’m not supporting the project but cmon… Baby Garrett eating bread….
Someone will tell me I’m so very wrong in the comments but idc I find this panel of Garrett speaking with Artemus (i love you artemus) so damn cute, which just makes me even more upset that this project is being handled by such an unprofessional and unreliable organization 😭😭

Veteran Taffers, I need your opinions! ♡
Hi, Taffers! What do you guys think about this Thief merch? I honestly love all of it, and I’d really like to support the campaign. The thing is, some Taffers have told me that it might not be a good idea and have criticized the comic
♡
I’m still pretty new to Thief I’ve only been part of the community for about a year and a half
♡
What do you guys think? Is all of this good or bad? Does it actually help or hurt the franchise? Could any veteran Taffers explain the situation to me please? ♡

Fan Art I rediscovered these Thief inspired comic strips I drew some years ago.
To those thinking of backing the Thief graphic novel campaign
I just want people to know about the practises of the main company behind the BackerKit campaign for Thief: Pulse of Promise - Bit Bot Media LLC (who Celldweller is unfortunately a founder of). Ask yourself this also; why is this campaign not being posted under the Bit Bot Media LLC name/brand (except their logo at the bottom of the campaign)? I find that curious.
They have a previous campaign on Kickstarter for another franchise. The campaign for Legacy of Kain: The Dead Shall Rise. I won't go into the quality of what they put out, or how they treated a beloved franchise - you can look that up for yourself. Instead I am covering what their business practice was like.
They marketed a graphic novel as their main campaign, with add-ons or other pledges for physical items, just like the Thief campaign. One of those pledge items (and also an add-on if you pledged for something else) was a signed graphic novel. I'll come back to this.
Firstly, they barely communicated and refused to just own up that they didn't have all the product people pledged for, so 15 months after their initial promised shipping date, people still do not have their product. They refused to refund people who rightly asked for one since that is a little excessive of a wait after paying for product two years ago.
They also charged half the cost of the initial estimate for shipping again (in addition to what was already collected on the campaign that is) on their Hive Interactive pledge manager later, during the time of heightened tariffs, whilst stating they were not passing on the tariffs to backers, and then ..still didn't ship anything.
They prioritised shipping for 'simple' orders, hence those that spent the most money were last in the queue.
They engaged in an aggressive campaign of having comments removed or placed in review (so the original poster didn't see that they were not visible) for any posts pointing out all the issues above and below.
Lastly, when sporadic reports from people who had managed to get things came in, they were reporting that those 'signed graphic novels' were not actually signed, but accompanied by a signed bookplate sticker instead. When the company could no longer ignore/suppress the comments, they posted an update stating that the pledges/add-ons marketed as 'signed graphic novels' were meant as signed bookplates, and we are/were erroneous to assume that they meant signed on the physical book, because it's 'industry standard' to not do so (it isn't). This significantly downgrades the collector value of items, yet they also refused to offer refunds even for those specific items. Even though they have not shipped yet to all backers.
This company does not deserve your money, or your love; they are banking on your love for a franchise you love, don't let them sour that.
They are also deleting comments warning people on the campaign.
Edit to add: They cancelled my pledge on the backerkit campaign, so that I can't post and my warning posts are deleted. And, curiously, I was logged out of backerkit, and attempting to log back in I was presented with a message that my account was temporarily locked for an hour due to too many unsuccessful attempts to log in. I did not attempt to log in, because I already was.
Discussion I wanna back the novel so bad but I won’t
I want that statue so bad. But I won’t do it because everyone says they’re terrible and still haven’t received their LoK items. It breaks my heart to not do it

Can you recommend games that are similarly atmospheric?
Hi there! I played Thief for the first time recently and fell in love. It so holds up.
What I discovered I love most is the absolutely palpable atmosphere. The darkness is intoxicating. The liminal space is suffocating at times. It’s incredible.
I’m trying to find games that have the same intense sort of atmosphere. I want to measure my words carefully: I know that Thief is singular, but have there been other games that you felt resonated with you on the atmosphere side of things, even if the atmosphere was different?
Also if you have any reflections on the atmosphere of Thief itself they are more than welcome! Cheers.
