Rank UP! [PART 2] Thoughts on trying Modern after 1600 hours of Classic
It's been some time and M.A.K.I. is now 1800MR, which means I can pilot her as well as Classic A.K.I.!
Unfortunately, life is rough, so I'm nonetheless in bad spirits. I'll try to make a fine post regardless.
I've realized the developers think about Modern a lot when designing characters. In hindsight, it's obvious. But for example, A.K.I.'s LVL2 is so much more useful on Modern because it's instant. So keeping both control schemes somewhat equal likely influences balancing decisions. I'm still a huge fan of how good Modern is at slowing the game down to a respectful match.
I've also found that some setups are genuinely much more difficult on Modern. Take this DRev-invulnerable setup as an example:
+44KD: Framekill 2LP, Framekill 2LK, PDR 5MP
Because of the Assist button, this sequence is very tricky on Modern as opposed to Classic. The more you know.
Today, I spent an hour playing Classic. In fact, I've decided I'll be switching between Modern and Classic going forward. This is because different control schemes can be better for different matchups! For example, Modern A.K.I. is better against Cammy and Marisa thanks to instant 236HP and supers, whereas Classic is better against Bison, where PC 5LK is very important...
It only took me an hour to restore my Classic execution! So it seems switching between the two on the fly is very feasible with practice... having so many buttons and setups is fulfilling. But at the same time, instant specials and Modern-specific hitconfirms are very satisfying as well.
So it seems I'm in love with them both. Capcom designed this character well.
Perhaps you can achieve the same?
I've come to really dislike the anti-modern crowd. This is mainly because a lot of the times they haven't actually tried Modern and therefore present inaccurate takes, but also because of how prone to shaming they are. Somehow hating on Modern is what the cool kids do now. Not that it's perfect by any means, though.
Please make sure your opinion is actually your own.
Modern changed the way I play Classic. I've finally dropped the habit of anti-airing with 5HK and instead rely on 236HP, which I like. I also buffer supers in neutral a lot more. It's refreshing.
Therefore, if you have deep-rooted bad habits that are ingrained in your muscle memory, I suggest taking a Modern vacation to break them.
I just love A.K.I. and all the ways to experience this character.
That's about all I can think of right now. Keep exploring and keep an open mind.

Help / Question Help with SF6 Movie Ken EX Colour
Apologies in advance for the cross-post.
I'm trying to obtain DLC codes for this Ken EX colour. Lawson is running a promotion with the upcoming Street Fighter movie.
I don't know anybody physically in Japan that can help me.

You can only obtain the item through the Loppi kiosk machine in the Lawson store, with the purchase of the SF movie tickets + Desk Mat.
I'm willing to transfer the funds to anybody who can assist me with this purchase.
Please let me know if anybody can help me with this.

Help / Question Hello r/StreetFighter, r/Castlevania needs your help!
So, a couple of days ago the demo for the last Castlevania game was released. There's a hidden weapon to be found in it, the Cestus . its standing combo is a chain of 7 hits. we noticed that if you delayed your attacks, instead of going back to neutral, Rose would assume different stances for a second between each hit. We identified a few of them as stances from Street Fighter characters, could you help us identify the rest of them ? I'm assuming they're all from Street Fighter, but they may be from other vs fighting games maybe ?

Guide / Labwork Cool Post-Stun Oro Combos
Not all of these are optimal but they're all cool. The only actually useful ones seem to be the first and the third, the second might look like it does more damage than the first but with any amount of scaling before the hitgrab it does less. They all work even if the opponent is mashing, I forgot to turn the playback on while recording but I tested the combos with it off camera.

Tournament Went to my first local and won it!
SF6 is my first fighting game and I picked it up around February 2024. I had played SF back in the 90s and through the years but always have been a button smasher with zero knowledge beyond some special moves.
If I knew what I was getting into I probably would have not gotten into it, to be honest. I am now at 1600MR and I feel like I have so much to go. Every loss shows me the bad habits, the things I don’t know, and how much more time I would need to put in to get better.
When I first hit Master, I thought I was going to leave the game there and not come back. The grind to it was crazy. But after a break I picked it up and kept going and trying to enjoy the process.
When I was in Diamond, I reached out for help on a Discord server and a guy was kind enough to help me big time! I would like to shout him out but not sure if that would make them uncomfortable. I then put hundreds of hours more into practicing and learning.
Recently I saw this tournament pop up on FB, from a local arcade. Only 30 minutes away from me. I was excited and thought about attending. I was doubting myself. I said to myself “what do you have to lose? Go and see where you’re at compared to others near you. Don’t aim to win, just do your best!”.
So I reached out to a person I have in my friend’s list. This guy is an Ultimate Master Sagat, I met doing casual matches that ended in a private room coaching session months ago. I told him about the tournament and he was excited. We did a few coaching sessions and I am so grateful!
I also reached out for help on another discord server and an Ultimate Master Guile reached out and was able to help me as well! I can’t thank him enough!
The day of the tournament I also reached out to a GM Ryu from my friends list and was able to put some time before the tournament. Another big help!
Got to the tournament and started meeting people. Some were practicing, so I decided to sit down to have a feel of the setup.
I was told that they were going to use PS5s but when I got there they had a bunch of computers. I connected my PS5 controller to warm up and right away I noticed there was some input lag. I was disappointed and tried a different computer; same thing. I asked other players if they were noticing it and they did. Nothing we could do at that point.
The first match was a mirror match and I noticed this guy could eliminate me if I am not careful. But I noticed he was not managing his driver meter well. So I took advantage of that and kept baiting and letting him use it all up. That’s how I beat him.
I tried to keep it simple since the input lag was just horrible, and to be honest the whole tournament can be summarized as keeping it simple and letting them do bad moves.
I am by no means an amazing player, I still lack so much. But If i was able to pull this off, others that are doubting themselves can do it too! Trust me I am nothing special. If you saw the matches, many of you would laugh. We all were struggling!
Since I started playing, I have been watching SF6 streams, content creators, interviews, etc. I have heard many times already the pros encouraging people to support the local FGCs and that was one reason I also attended.
Anyway, this is a bucket list item for me! I played SF2 when I was like 10y/o.

Highlight (in-game) How could I have beaten this Akuma?
So I picked up SF6 about a month ago and have just over 40 hours at this point. I've done some practice drills, casual matches, and recently did my 10 placement games and went 9-1 and ended up in Platinum.
For now I try to focus on Anti-airs, Countering DI, and just being patient and walking them toward the corner. Usually I wait until I can get a jump-in and win with a DRC combo into level 3 or just lariat
I really struggle with players like this Akuma who just sit on the ground and press buttons on me. I tried to grab him out of the string a few times but kept getting counter-hit so I ended up just sitting there blocking not knowing how to punish him. It felt like his moves were all safe on block and I could never get an opening but I'm sure that's not the case
Example at like 0:26 he whiffs right in my face and i tried to grab and got counter-hit by his jab.
What should I do as Gief against someone like this?
Things I know I can improve on:
I'm really bad at hit confirming and I tend to jump-in too much.
I also don't think I go for SPD often enough
I was tilted at this point because this was the second set and I felt like this Akuma played like a CPU looping the same combos the entire time and I still lost to it. So I started just throwing stuff out because I was irritated
