Looking for software How to find a lost app?

Hello,

Gonna try to keep this short. In 2019 I downloaded an android app where you could report incidents of sexual assault/violence by location and also you could add names and write exactly what happened in your own words. When saved it would show on a map with pins on it, sorta like a sex offender type map. I JUST CANT RECALL THE APP NAME!

It's not 'safe city' or "she's a crowd" because i looked those up. I used the same email and no account pops up when i sign in. Reason why Im asking is cause apparently the offender has been busy and has multiple victims.

I was trying to go back and find the report I made years ago to submit for a type of witness statement to show basically this troglodyte has a long history of drugging and raping women. I also did report to the police the next day after it happened, that did a fat load of nothing; so now im stuck trying to back track to this suddenly unfindable app to show i tried to utilize every avenue at my disposal to at least shine light on what this asswipe did. Even in my email there is nothing. Which might be on account of the anonymous reporting feature of the app.

I even checked my app history on my account to see if I can check my downloads in 2019 and there is nothing there.... its actually very disturbing that many places I used to report something so catastrophic either doesnt exist anymore or has horrible record keeping.

Any tips on how to find this app?

Release I built a free open source offline dictation app for Windows over the last month. Here's the journey and I'd like your feedback

Disclosure first VoxScribe is free and open source MIT. There's an optional $14 one time Pro upgrade for extras, but the whole core app is free with no account. Link is at the bottom.

What it is: you hold a hotkey anywhere in Windows, talk, release, and the text is typed into whatever app has focus. Speech recognition runs locally on your PC so your audio is never uploaded.

How it went. The first version used automatic speech detection, and it was a mess on quiet mics. It missed real speech and triggered on noise which made the model invent sentences. I dropped it for plain hold to talk which turned out to be more reliable and easier to understand.

Then real hardware broke everything I thought was working. A Bluetooth headset gave almost no signal until I switched audio drivers. A laptop mic crashed because I forced the wrong sample rate. Text got scrambled in web chat boxes until I slowed down the typing. Windows Defender flagged the installer until I turned off a packing option. Each of those taught me to test on more than my own machine.

It has grown since you can import audio and video files and get text or .srt subtitles, there are spoken commands for punctuation and undo, about 28 languages with a translate to English mode, and custom word replacements.

Last week a user reported it got stuck on loading after a failed model download. I fixed that and then read through my whole codebase and found eight more problems, so the next version repaired those too. I also corrected my own privacy wording, because the app does send one anonymous launch ping that you can switch off in Settings.

Where it stands about 80 downloads, around 20 people who have actually opened it and one person paying for Pro. So I'm learning more from feedback than from numbers.

What I'd like to know from you: Does it work in your apps, and which ones fail? How is the accuracy with your accent and mic? Is there anything that would stop you from trying it, like the unsigned installer warning? And what would make you actually use it every day?

Release BurnGuard - open-source design workspace that runs on the Claude Code or Codex you already pay for

• Upvotes

Claude Design keeps your files in a hosted workspace and runs on your plan's usage. I built BurnGuard to keep them on your computer and use the Claude Code or Codex CLI you already have.

It's a desktop app for Windows and macOS. You pick a design system, describe what you want, and it makes websites, slides and graphics next to a live canvas.

It ships with 41 design systems, each with its own navigation, hero and footer layout rules. You can edit on the canvas or leave pinned comments, then export HTML, PDF, PPTX or PNG, or publish a site to your own Vercel. Files stay local.

What it doesn't do well yet: generation isn't instant (the one-line landing page in the README demo took about five minutes), PPTX slides come out as images with the text in speaker notes, and the installers are unsigned so you get a security warning on first launch. macOS is Apple silicon only.

I'm the author. It's free and Apache-2.0: https://github.com/ashmoonori-afk/BurnGuard

Feedback on what's missing is welcome.

Discussion AI is ruining Open Source project

I got into software development at 13 because it gave me the chance to solve problems and see their effects. It always felt great to come back and see your work being used by people.

At the company i was working for, everything is written by Claude. Gone were the times when you could read/think/analyze and implement solutions. How does one feel when everyone outputs the same code? How is it that people that don't even know the current standard they are working on, produce ~1000 lines of code per day?

I tried to keep up the old fashion way of programming, but couldn't compete against Claude Code. So i learnt to use it. No matter, at least i can enjoy programming at home.

I suggested a feature for an open source project. By the time i got about to implement it, someone had asked Claude to generate the implementation. Except for some specificities, Claude outmatched me in almost every single part of the code.

What is even the point of programming anything anymore if AI can do it better?

Looking for software Instagram modded client?

I made a post on here a few days ago asking for some content clearing apps and extensions.

A user replied that he uses a bunch of them but didn't actually say the name of any of them, and didn't reply when I asked.

One of them included a Instagram modded client that he says "removes explore page and reels and only shows content from people you follow."

Does anyone know the name of such a client that does this?

Thanks!

Release Melodex: a free, open-source desktop player for local music, internet radio, and discovery

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

I built Melodex for people with local music collections who want an easier way to find something beyond their usual rotation.

Flow creates a listening path that brings familiar tracks together with music you haven’t played in a while, and lets you steer as you listen.

It also plays internet radio and includes playlists, lyrics and listening history. Melodex is free and open source for macOS, Windows and Linux — no account or subscription required.

For anyone who likes tinkering, there’s also documentation and a provider SDK for adding your own online music sources.

v0.7.13: https://github.com/Cliff-Lee/melodex/releases/tag/v0.7.13

I’m the developer. Feedback on the app, especially anything that feels confusing or gets in the way of actually listening to music, would be very welcome.

Looking for software Organizing photos on PC locally with AI?

I have been uploading my photos from my phone to my PC to store them on hard drives, and I want some sort of software that will organize my photos. Being able to search based off of people or things is sort of what I am looking for.

I was thinking I could use some sort of AI for this, but I do not want my data being collected anywhere so something local.

I am super confused though with this topic since many people talk about self hosting and I dont know much about it. I have a gaming PC with good specs and lots of storage, just need help organizing stuff.

If anyone could give me a quick rundown of how to do this and what software to use, I need somewhere to start.

Software support Free open source macOS NullPlayer app now supports ALL Winamp (2.x, ClassicPro, 5) & ALL Windows Media Player (7, 7.1, XP (8), 9, 10, 11 and 12) Skins. NullPlayer is a clean room effort and the only media player with universal skin support.

Post image
12 Upvotes

NullPlayer skin support is clean room reverse engineered. Development is coded with claude and controlled by a real working Software Engineer who personally stands behind the app. The app has accumulated 31 releases and 124 github stars over the 11 months. r/nullPlayer

NullPlayer is open source software and not signed by Apple.

NullPlayer privacy policy (all data local) https://github.com/ad-repo/nullplayer/blob/main/PRIVACY.md

Download NullPlayer for macOS:

https://github.com/ad-repo/nullplayer/releases/latest/download/NullPlayer.dmg

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or newer.

Install

NullPlayer is not signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS will block it on first launch with an "app is damaged" or "cannot verify that it is free from malware" message. This is expected. Clearing the quarantine flag is a required install step:

  1. Open the downloaded DMG.
  2. Drag NullPlayer.app to Applications.
  3. Open Terminal and run:xattr -cr /Applications/NullPlayer.app
  4. Open NullPlayer from Applications.

Prefer not to use the Terminal? Install with Homebrew, or clear the block via System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Open Anyway — see the install guide.

Self-Promotion Wednesdays I built a voice AI assistant for Windows that actually controls your PC (opens apps, sets reminders, searches the web)

Hey everyone! For the past while I've been building **NEXA**, a personal AI assistant that lives on your Windows PC. I wanted something like JARVIS that doesn't just chat, but actually *does* things on my computer.

**What it can do:**

- 🎙️ **Voice control**: always listening, a "NEXA" wake word, or push-to-talk. You can talk over it to interrupt.

- 🖥️ **Runs your PC**: opens apps and games, finds files, controls volume, brightness, dark mode and media

- 🌐 **Live answers**: web search, weather, news, game deals, Epic free games, Steam player counts, stocks

- ⏰ **Timers, alarms and reminders**, plus a morning brief when you start your PC

- 🔗 **Connects to your stuff**: Email, Calendar, Discord, Telegram, Slack, Notion, GitHub, Steam, Home Assistant

- 🧠 **Remembers you**: long-term memory you can view and delete

- 🎭 **Personalities**: JARVIS, Chill friend or Sassy

**Safety was a big focus:** anything risky (sending messages, deleting files, buying) always asks you first, it never types your passwords, and connected accounts are stored encrypted.

It's still early and I'm improving it constantly, so **I'd really love feedback**: what would you want an assistant like this to do? What's missing?

If you want to try it, everything is in our Discord: https://discord.gg/kbEva4szXQ

Happy to answer any questions in the discord! 🙂

Discussion Does anyone else struggle with multiple versions of the same files?

I'm doing early research for a possible file-management tool and want to understand whether existing software and workflows already solve this. There is no product or signup link to share.

Do you ever end up with files like these?

report.docx

report_final.docx

report_final2.docx

report_revised.docx

report_ACTUAL_final.docx

For people who work with documents for school, work, or personal projects, how often, if ever, do you:

- Open several versions just to figure out which one is the latest?

- Keep old versions because you're afraid of deleting the wrong one?

- Lose track of related files across Downloads, Desktop, Documents, or other folders?

- Download a file again because you can't find the copy you already saved?

Which of these actually causes trouble for you, and how often: daily, weekly, rarely, or never? If you can, describe the last time it happened and what you did.

What software or workflow do you currently use to handle it? If an existing tool or a simple habit completely solves this for you, I'd especially like to hear that too. What works well, and is anything still frustrating?

Replies here are enough; please don't share private filenames or document contents.

Deal/Sale Ampliflare Audio: Studio-quality sound, no studio needed. Remove background noise, balance volume, and cut, split, or convert recordings in one simple app (AGPL)

Thumbnail gallery
18 Upvotes

Release of v0.1.0 of Ampliflare Audio

I’ve been restoring old lectures and videos. A lot of them have rough audio, and some came as FLAC or OGA files. Converting them online was slow and kept interrupting the work.

I went back to Audacity. It can do almost anything, but its interface wore me down. I wanted to process a file, listen to the result, make another change, and move on.

I spent a week looking for other tools. What I found would have cost about $80 for noise removal and another $20 for conversion. The $100 wasn’t the main issue. I wanted something more accessible for people starting out or working on a nonprofit project like mine.

So I built Ampliflare Audio around that workflow. It has five tools:

  • Remove noise from speech.
  • Enhance audio by evening out volume and cutting low rumble.
  • Cut a recording to the part you need.
  • Split a recording into pieces.
  • Convert between formats, including less common ones like OGA.

You can process batches of files, listen in the app, follow progress, and find your results in Activity. It saves new files and leaves the originals alone. Everything runs on your computer and available to download directly on Windows, Mac and Linux.

DeepFilterNet3 and FFmpeg do the heavy lifting. I’ve put them into an app you can install and use without setting up those tools yourself.

The source is under the AGPL and is free to build and use, including for commercial work. The ready-made app is free for personal use, up to 20 files a week. For commercial use, a pay-what-you-can license starts at $5 and removes that limit.

I want to keep making software the old-school way: install it, open it, and get on with the work. If Ampliflare Audio helps you, please consider supporting it. I’d also like to hear how it works for you.

Pay what you want is currently under a limited time - I might change it to a fixed price and remains a one time payment.

Discussion Need feedback on a quantum software testing tool I built for final year project.

Hi everyone,

GitHub repository:
https://github.com/jamesharris1307/Quantum-Simulation-Testing-Framework-Python-Pytest-Qiskit

This project got me a first in my degree and was the highest scoring project I submitted that year. I’m hoping to continue developing it beyond university so I’d appreciate some feedback from people who have experience with quantum computing, quantum software engineering or quantum software testing.

The project is a probabilistic testing framework for quantum software, designed to make quantum simulation executions more reliable by using statistical threshold assertions instead of relying on exact deterministic outputs.

The framework is built with Python, Pytest, Qiskit, Qiskit Aer and NumPy.

I’d particularly appreciate feedback on:

* Whether you think the approach is useful/practical
* Anything you think is missing from the framework
* Potential improvements to the testing methodology
* Existing work or tools I should look into
* Ideas for where I could take the project next

Release Watermark a pdf for free ?!

Hey everyone,

I kept running into the same problem: I needed to watermark PDFs and every option was either bloated desktop software or a site that shoved a paywall in my face after upload.

So I built pdfwatermark.in. Here's what it does:

-Add text or image watermarks to a PDF

-Control position, opacity, rotation and size

-Apply to all pages or just selected ones

-Works in the browser, with no software to install

Quick tips if you're watermarking PDFs in general:

Use around 20-30% opacity so the document stays readable.

Diagonal text watermarks are harder to crop out than corner ones.

Watermark a copy, never your original file.

Disclosure: I'm the developer, so I'm biased. I'd really like to know what features are missing or what annoys you about similar tools.

Link: pdfwatermark.in

Did I waste time n tokens or its fine ?

Release I built a free, open-source Downloads Organizer for Windows, macOS, and Linux — looking for honest feedback

Post image
0 Upvotes

A Downloads folder fills up quickly: documents, screenshots, installers, archives… and eventually, finding something becomes another task.

I wanted a simple way to keep that folder manageable while staying in control of where my files go. That became Downloads Organizer, a free, open-source desktop app that runs locally.

Here’s what it offers:

  • Editable rules to organize files by extension or filename.
  • Preview before moving, so you can check the destination.
  • Optional automatic sorting, with catch-up when the app starts again.
  • Move history and checked undo when you need to reverse a move.

It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux. No account, cloud uploads, or telemetry. Your files stay on your computer.

Source and screenshots:
https://github.com/kashnordeen/downloads-organizer

Downloads:
https://github.com/kashnordeen/downloads-organizer/releases/tag/v1.0.0

A quick installation note: Windows builds are currently unsigned, and macOS builds aren’t notarized, so security prompts may appear. The SignPath application for Windows signing is pending.

I’d appreciate honest feedback—especially on the first-time setup, rule editing, and whether the preview makes file moves clear.

What would you need to see before trusting an app to organize your Downloads folder?
