Xiaomi 18 pro/promax

I’m going to china in a couple of days, so I have the opportunity to buy the new Xiaomi.
Would you? I’m currently looking for a new phone, but i can’t make up my mind..

I'm currently using a xiaomi 18 pro max in the US with 0 issues whatsoever. Please tell me how the software and app support is bad. Because I can tell you right now that it isn't. Lol it's wild how there are people just repeating what they see without actually owning a CN rom or having experience using one. There is literally a workaround for everything you could need or want except wearOS and android auto.

I've owned a CN ROM. It's bad.

hyperos being bad is public knowledge, bad optimizations, memory management, thermal management, efficiency, etc. and when i say app support being bad, i mean u can't even use google apps without using workarounds, that's stupid. and android auto not working is another issue

Do you even know or own the Phone to say that ? I own the 18pm and have no issues too

Are you trying to buy it in china then bring it back to your home country?
Phones in China have limitation to them like no google playstore, missing freq bands, no esim, no warranity outside of china etc...

Xiaomi have international version of their phones but those are sold outside of china

Yeah, I’m from Denmark, so i would be using it here.
What I’ve read, android auto and e-sim should be the only problem. Google playstore and freq bands shouldn’t be a problem as per my research, I could be wrong tho..
Warranty, yeah..

It is cheaper in china so if they are problem then go for it. Not having a esim shouldn't be a big problem either. Just need you to have some tech skills to fix any issues with google, that is all

Yeah I’m just in two minds if it’s worth it or if i should go with a “normal” android like s26.. thanks

Xiaomi Chinese flagship phones have the necessary bands for most carriers in Europe and T-Mobile in the US. You can download the Play Store/Services outside of China. You are screwed with warranty support though.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro series is coming to Europe. Buy it here for better comparability.

I see, as far as I’ve read, it seems they would be atleast 500 € more expensive tho..

They're generally good phones for the price, but you won't be able to just walk into a Xiaomi store and buy one off the shelf and plug your sim in. They sell Chinese specific models that are more or less region locked (kinda, it's more complicated) and will contain Chinese specific software. Xiaomi does sell 'global' versions for most of their lineup which you can get through Taobao/Aliexpress or similar.

To my understanding i should be able to do that , unless I’m missing something? For what I’ve read, the thing I should be most concerned about is warranty and Android auto.
I’ve also read that I could buy global versions when they are out in a couple of ?months? But they come with smaller battery capacity ( atleast for the pro max version) and should come at a quite higher pricepoint..

Non global versions won't have the Google Play Store but you can load that through an APK. I would also confirm that your mobile carrier in your region supports the frequency bands for the device. I've bought Oppp phones and brought them home no problem but they just take a little work. If you can speak the language or have someone to help it's easy enough but there's still some hoops to jump through to make sure it works (and you'll pretty much always get Chinese ads from time to time)

Where do you live. Will it run on any of your carriers?

u/Thommy687 10h ago

Denmark. To my understanding, it should run my carriers with no problem..

Nope. Don’t want a “Fake Apple”.

For sure they are just hardcopying apple but their specifications just seems really great for the price..

once u look past numbers on a spec sheet, u'll realize xiaomis don't offer good value. everything that isn't on that spec sheet is probably pure garbage
