Why am i hearing "Everyday Im Shufflin" in my head as I see this?

10

u/SneakyInfiltrator 5h ago

Lmao, i just pictured that, it would be pretty funny.

Well, the original scene was pretty cool, i still love it after so many years, but no, it's not that song.

u/Fskn 4h ago

I like how she cleanly slashes the bags with her sai that are specifically blunt weapons.

No, in the comics she absorbed Carol Danvers' (Ms Marvel) powers permanently, became super strong and could fly. She basically fought like Superman. And when necessary she could always take off her gloves and absorb the powers of other mutants, although she preferred not to do this.

14

u/Wugtrio777 3h ago

not absorb othe rmutants but other powers period. she absorbs alot more than mutant powers.

4

u/LoreChief 37m ago

But can she absorb why kids love cinnamon toast crunch??

95

u/Other-Grapefruit-880 5h ago

No, no, no no no nO NO no No NO

2

u/Dontputthebegalthere 1h ago

You wont get enough upvotes for this but I appreciate you

8

u/capncapitalism 4h ago

Nope. Rogue uses her touch to steal other powersets to use as her own. She's not a ninja. Most well known comic version could fly and everything because she sapped Ms. Marvel's power and put her on an extended vacation.

u/Longjumping-Part3983 5h ago

Most are expecting this.

Gyat dayum… I didn’t remember she was caked up like this… I can see why Gambit is always trying for these biscuits.

51

u/emergency-snaccs 5h ago

rogue has always been caked up. it's a core part of the character, and is showcased repeatedly via random panels like this one

Rogue doesn't use sai

78

u/KPottsie78 4h ago

I mean obviously she touches Elektra and gains her abilities

41

u/foreverandadayalone 3h ago

She gains powers (like flight) obviously.

But does she gain skills? If she touches an accountant, can she do taxes?

25

u/DJTLaC 2h ago

Yup. There's a scene becoming pretty well known / memed from "X-Men '97" where Cyclops and Jean Grey are being denied medical care during childbirth because they're mutants. Rogue ends up touching the Doctor to gain his knowledge and knowhow so she can deliver the baby instead.

16

u/Mr_Bad_Example 3h ago

Actually, yes. Although it does depend on how long she is in contact.

9

u/CldStoneStveIcecream 2h ago

Actors will train for months for a 15 second scene with whatever weapon the movie calls for, no reason Rogue can't use them for some reason or other.

11

u/pmcrumpler 4h ago

But maybe someone who’s powers/skills she steals does

49

u/KeySecret9184 3h ago

The jawbone removal surgery and botox injections are already scheduled for 2028.

She’ll then have a follow-up “fuck my shit up” surgery in 2031.

She’ll then tell everyone she had an accident in 2024 and that’s why her face changed 7 years later AKA “The Zac Efron Excuse”

u/Cheesetorian 5h ago

They might've told her Psylocke.

22

u/itchybutwhole69 4h ago

I honestly thought that's who she would play. Rogue kinda surprised me. She's a good actress but man she better have a good director or this might be a bad casting choice.

5

u/Ever_Day_Is_TacoTues 5h ago

My thoughts exactly

10

u/Mateorabi 5h ago

I mean Rogue could have taken her powers for a bit.

5

u/KeepGoing655 2h ago

Psylocke's mutant powers doesn't involving using a Sai though.

66

u/Naeloah 5h ago

i’m happy for her, i hope she shows her range and what she can do

3

u/ALightningStar 5h ago

Happy for her, I believe she will do well at the part. I hope this is the first day of training and she keeps at it is all because there might be a lot of room for improvement in the action part.

29

u/themanfromvulcan 3h ago

Did Rogue suddenly become Electra?

Rogue doesn’t use weapons she absorbs other people’s powers.

She can fly because she once touched Ms. Marvel.

13

u/Meatball2026 2h ago

Oh yes, that's the story. She once touched Ms. Marvel.

She used her mutant power to put Ms. Marvel into a persistent coma. She intentionally held her far longer than she ever had anyone before. It was meant to be portrayed as a traumatic event for everyone.

Rogue took her powers, memories, and identity because her adoptive mother (Mystique), the only person who cared about her, basically forced her to do it.

Mystique saw a chance to use a powerful, young, abused mutant and did it. Again. She did the same thing to Nightcrawler and others. Sorry JLaw, the character was originally villain trash.

Rogue regretted it, and paid for it in psychological damage for decades. She basically stole a life. She hates her power for obvious reasons. She can not touch another person. Physically or emotionally. She knows that very well at this point. From her very first boyfriend, to the Wolverine. They always either get hurt, or try to abuse her powers and then everyone gets hurt.

u/cknappiowa 2h ago

She’s probably just fucking around because some sai were available to fuck around with. Note the distinct lack of anything resembling a trainer or choreography, and the presence of a cell phone camera.

She’s at the gym, having fun, swinging some weapons around. That doesn’t mean Rogue is turning into a ninja. The pitchforks can go back to the barn for now.

52

u/dgod40 5h ago

So weird. Why is she using Sai? Would make a bit more sense of she was Psylocke.

22

u/RoncoSnackWeasel 5h ago

Or Elektra

11

u/MyThrowaway3121 4h ago

I suspect it's a conditioning thing more than a weapon she's intended to use in the movie.

Sai use a lot of intricate hand movements, which means strong hands and forearms.

3

u/pheeny 5h ago

Maybe they're just stunt sai

→ More replies (2)

21

u/Bradford117 5h ago

I don't think rogue is proficient with sai

8

u/VLAON6 1h ago

19

u/TrackMan5891 5h ago

She is playing Elecktra

10

u/Critical-Wasabi3350 4h ago

Why is she using ninja turtle weapons?

3

u/blac_sheep90 4h ago

Rogue takes powers from mutants and other superheroes.

21

u/pmcrumpler 4h ago

Everyone is crashing out about Rogue not using sai, but she could be stealing the skills/powers of someone that does like Psylocke or Elektra

6

u/Haavi-OCE 4h ago

Genuine question, does Rogue steal aptitude as well as powers? Honestly just something I'd never considered. Like if she touched Usain Bolt would she be able to run with olympic sprinting form.

9

u/pmcrumpler 4h ago

My understanding is that she absorbs skills, powers, and even memories/personality. Quick google says basically that: https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Anna_Marie_LeBeau_(Earth-616)

u/Haavi-OCE 4h ago

Thank you, appreciate the response :)

There was a time in the comics that Black Widow had to take a shot with a sniper rifle but her finger got broken. She told Rogue to absorb her skill and take the shot herself.

2

u/Big_bat_chunk2475 4h ago

There was that one time in X-men 97!where Rogue stole a doctor’s medical expertise to deliver Scott and Madelyn’s baby

2

u/PineappleOnPizzaWins 3h ago

Or she's training for something completely different and this is just part of that training.

They're prop/training weapons, could be as simple as they're good for dexterity and the hollywood trainers who do this all the time have found they're an excellent starting point for some other type of on screen weapon.

Wait you mean the actress that's playing a character that steals other characters abilities is using weapons that her character normally wouldn't use? I'm sure this reflects on the actress and is in now at a hint as to what her character will do on screen.

4

She needs to stop using that sai and start punching people instead.

Watching this just made me think of those guys who play with swords cutting water bottles and watermelons in their backyard, except she's attractive.

2

u/YouMengAlex 3h ago

Although Rogue doesn't use that kind of weapon mostly in the comics, iirc, maybe the actress is training for general weapon principles st the moment. Also, is Marvel collaborating with 87North on the new X-Men project? Just curious.
