Some would argue that a backup camera, Bluetooth and AC were unnecessary.

Backup cameras are federally mandated.

So why quote something that's mandates by law and not other things that are mandated by law, such as lights?

Because the cars are made with such massive blind spots behind and in front, that you can’t see a child 5ft from the front bumper of many cars.

Cameras all around a car are great technology advancements.

Bluetooth was unnecessary before they took my fucking auxiliary ports!

AC 100 percent necessary if you live in the south. Bluetooth and backup camera are “nice to haves,” but definitely not necessary.

And if you don't live in the South?

LOL my daughter and son are currently sharing a 2015 VW Jetti TSI that does not have a backup camera. Both of them wow their friends by being able to competently back into a parking space using their mirrors alone.

I prefer the mirrors, but really appreciate that I can see if I'm going to run something or someone over.

Backing out of a space is where the camera really shines, it has a better vantage point than I do, especially if there is a taller vehicle next to me

I use both - for a long while, even though my cars for the last nine years have had backup cameras, I grudingly starting using mine because ¯_(ツ)_/¯ might as well.

I'm not entirely dependent on it, though, and if it's a situation where the camera isn't optimal (lots of rain on the camera lens, lots of steam because it's really cold, or whatever), I can still using my backup skills with mirrors.

I wouldn’t, but adaptive cruise control is.

I happily drove an '88 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme from 2006 to 2009 that had none of those (I didn't have the money to fix the AC) and I used a cassette adapter to play my music from my MP3 player :)
