I don't think it's the tech. Chinese cars are full of it and are cheap in China. Same car in EU is like 3-4 times the price.

If anything expensive cars by Legacy Carmakers are insultingly under equiped in Europe. I am not paying 50K euros for a Peugeot 408 with a 58kwh battery and 210 hp or an Ioniq 5 top trim that doesn't even include a 360 camera.
At least with the chinese you get everything and 400-600 hp at those prices.

I get a fully loaded car in the US for $50K.

Husband is British. European cars in Europe have never been like European cars here for sure. Even Hondas and Nissans are better equipped in the US for the same and sometimes less money.

Well, for starters, 20% VAT probably is a big part of that difference.
And then, many European cars sold in the US are also assembled in the US or Mexico.

I paid USD $29k for a BYD sealion 6 in Aus. 90km ev range, leather, sunroof, Bluetooth, 360 cam, heated and ventilated seats. Never been such a good time to buy a car in Australia. I’ll probably change to a zeekr 7x performance next year which is USD $50k.

They have to block out Chinese cars from the market or they would absolutely rinse all the local competition. But yeah maybe they should, they should pay us more and the non Chinese car brands should be more competitive in price.

You’re right it’s not tech, USA has very antiquated state laws regarding car manufacturing and sales.
