Favorite Tree in Sacramento?

Post image
418 Upvotes

I know a lot of you have a favorite tree here in Sacramento, let’s see it! Tell us why it is important to you. Here’s mine on Vallejo Way across from Cal Middle School. I love it for its size, the way it shades not only the house but the entire street, and because of the memories that I’ve made along this street passing by this tree many times in the past. 🌳 🌲

Happy first of the month and almost weekend!

Here are some non-weekend specific event resources too:

Share whatever events are on your radar for others to get a sense of the fun in the city, and maybe to help folks meet friends this weekend!

My girlfriend (who works at a civil engineering firm) just mentioned to me that some undisclosed company might be building a data center in Sac. However, it’s very likely Google.

Just came across this article dated Oct 1, 2026. (Yes, this year despite that banner from 10 years ago.)

SF Supermarket had a soft opening a few weeks ago on Sept 18. Their newest location is at 7960 Gerber Road, west of Power Inn Road. They now occupy the space where Save Mart was.

SF Supermarket is also planning another location in Elk Grove.

City needs to strengthen tree protection ordinance (morons topped health 75ft redwood trees)

Post image

Once again people that should have no business doing tree work are doing tree work in the city. My neighbor doesn’t realize by not hiring an arborist that he is risking the trees growing to be too heavy and falling on his house during a major storm event. That’s even if the trees can survive this butchery. Honestly if it does happen I’m going to let his insurance adjuster see this photo so they know it was caused by the intentional actions of the home owner.

Last day of the Greek food festival. It’s at the Greek Orthodox Church near McKinley. Here’s what to get if you’re not familiar with Greek food.

From a Greek family, some of my highlights:

Outside stations:

  • Saganaki: grilled then flambed cheese with pita. Needs to be eaten right away.
  • Grilled meats: station outside pork/chicken souvlaki (grilled meat skewers) and loukaniko (pork sausage my favorite) with fried potatoes. Greeks do a bang up job on potatoes. Served with really yummy tzatziki to smear on everything.
  • Loukamades: fried donuts soaked with honey/cinnamon to finish, needs to be eaten right away or will sog. Almost impossible to find. Do not skip.
  • Gyro: If you get a gyro, most greeks these days eat pork gyros, recommend that vs. beef/lamb (but also good of course).

Inside:

  • Tiropita and spanakopita: cheese and cheese / spinach filled phyllo wrapped savory pastries
  • Moussaka: Think Greek Shepard‘s pie with lamb & eggplant.
  • Dolmas (stuffed grape leavea) and horiatiki (fresh tomato / feta / olive / cucumber salad), horiatiki is a nice fresh salad on a hot day.
  • Skip the lamb inside, it’s super mid imo.
  • Bakery section: ton of good stuff, get whatever stands out - paxiamadia are anise flavored biscotti that I love for breakfast with coffee/tea.

Bar

  • Ouzo on ice is strong, but divine. Anise flavored, gets cloudy when you hit it with ice. Yes it’s a 40% spirit, but goes down so smooth to start the meal. Full disclosure, definitely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but worth trying if interested. It really hits for me.
  • They have mastiha this year too, which is rare and interesting. It’s a spirit made from tree bark. Also good with ice. Slightly sweet spirit. Probably more of a crowd pleaser.
  • Greek white wine is delicious especially on a hot day. Greek reds tend to disappoint imo.

dog bite lawyer

hello beautiful sacramento peeps,

i’m a delivery driver who was recently bitten by a customers dog while delivering a package to their home.

i am seeking to take legal action against the home owner and wondering if anyone has any suggestions or experience with lawyers in our area who can assist me with this?

i have already submitted a claim through animal control who is actively working on this issue, have reported this incident to the proper city authorities, have dealt with my employers/workman’s comp requirements, as well as seeking medical attention for this.

any help is greatly appreciated

One free Aftershock wristband! First come, first serve.

I just got mine off without cutting it. The deal is you come get it within the next 2 hours and I'll hand it over. I live less than 5 miles from the South entrance of Discovery Park. It's registered to me but they don't check names when you scan it in. I didn't go today and it's a 4-day GA wristband.

Niche request - Anyone with a “Witcher 3” cartridge on Switch want to meet up? I’ll buy you coffee

UPDATE — Success! Thank you so much, u/begoniann!!

Very random request, but I’m wondering if anyone in the area happens to have a copy of the Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch that I can borrow for like two minutes to insert in my Switch 2 and claim a copy of the new edition.

In short, they recently put out a remastered update for the game and if you have a copy on Switch, you get the Switch 2 edition for free. Whats crazy is, apparently, you can just insert the game once, claim a copy on your system, and keep it forever.

Maybe an oversight from Nintendo or something, but hey, I’ll take a free Witcher 3 on the go. I figured I’d see if the library had a copy… and many others had the same idea lol. Last I checked, hold wait is 45 long and growing.

So, I come to Reddit with this random plea. Anyone down to let me pop their copy of the game in my switch 2 very quickly, claim my upgrade, and hand it back to you? Coffee/tea on me!

PSA: Rude Del Rio/American River Trail Cyclists

If you were to look at the signs that are plastered all over the trail, you may see that pedestrians are meant to stay on the left side. That way, you can pass us when you're coming towards us head-on. I'm not sure how you're biking the trail every weekend and not understanding this.

A confidently wrong cyclist, who almost ran into me, told me I was on the wrong side when trying to prove a point and not getting out of the lane.

Quiet place with minimal foot traffic to park 10/31

We have reactive dogs I’m trying to keep calm on Halloween.

Our doorbell is disconnected. We put out a bucket of candy at the curb— with signs explaining and asking folks not to knock and no porch light, and still had people knocking last year. (And the bucket was stolen. Twice in one night, by adults driving behind their kids.) presumably the difference between last years failure and previous years success was that last year Halloween fell on a weekend… but it does this year, too, so we’re trying to figure out how to protect the dogs’ peace.

we thought maybe this year one of us could drive two of the dogs most bothered by noise to somewhere quiet to park until it’s unlikely folks will still come by the house. However, we don’t know where it will be safe AND unlikely to see foot traffic. (Driving the whole time is a possibility… but there is always that fear of a random traffic stop with only one adult in the car and two fearful barky dogs… so parking is def preferred.) anyone know a likely legal, quiet spot to sit in the car with dogs that need their space in 10/31? I know it’s a long shot, but figured I’d ask! Arden Arcade area but happy to drive as needed.
