It's not stupidity, it's an intentional effort to destroy the movement through semantic destruction. The word is intentionally used outside of its original meaning, used as a shorthand for "bad" to make any mention of the movement bring on negative associations. It's what happened with 'woke'. They saw 'being aware of social injustices' as a threat and so began a campaign to reduce its meaning to "leftist thing that's bad"
