I don't think it's a right or a wrong thing. What you heard was REAL. I would take it just as information that she's finally sharing with you. It's really hard to not take this personally, but to just listen and be present to it. You now have more insight into your wife than you probably ever had. It doesn't mean that anything has been a waste or that there are regrets, it's just that at a point in her life she was a person who accomplished something on her own, getting into nursing school. She wasn't a wife, mother, cook, housekeeper, chauffeur, etc., she was just herself.
