Yeah, I think that is an often overlooked issue. It’s also hard to detect; to the wife, it probably felt like clear communication. To the husband, it sounded like the typical griping people do about their day to day.
It’s not the only issue in this conversation, but it’s part of it.

I think I know what the guy gave up: not having to answer for the words he said in an imaginary argument that he wasn’t aware was happening.
