Yeah if someone is making you feel like terrible day in day out then yes punch him in the face and see what he says next.

First punch 9 times out of 10 ends the conflict and it doesn’t even become a fight. And yes this is what I would have every child know. If bullies thought there was a chance of getting a tooth knocked out I guarantee you’d have significantly less bullying.

I have nieces and nephews and this is what their parents teach and what I agree with. None of them have had to fight but they also don’t allow bully’s to go unchecked. My niece has literally made multiple bullies cry and I back that 100 percent. But also if she fucked the kid up I would have had no issue there either.

u/Important_Swim_2009 17d ago
Interesting. I agree with defending yourself and not allowing those to bully you but I don’t agree with using physical violence until it’s used on you. As someone who does MMA this is what I teach my kids. That and mental resilience

u/Just_lookin_4242 17d ago
And I disagree with that. If you set a limit like that then pieces of garbage take advantage they always do and always will. It’s why America is having a Nazi problem no one just punches them in the mouth.

You don’t even need to be on the same continent to bully someone into suicide. Maybe you should be quiet about subjects you haven’t even bothered to think through
5
u/EulaVengeance 17d ago
You must have lived a very shelterd life if you think bullying is just physical.

I got bullied into self harm a lot… I just don’t think hitting ppl over words is okay. I was bullied all my life for being weird or autistic or etc so trust me. I know how bad it can be, still wouldn’t hit ppl unless they hit me.

u/DragonDanzZ 17d ago
ohh yes the bully in my school had to go after me allllll the time.. in the end he got his own medecin.. and what did he do?? straight ahead to his other friends to "HELP" him get revenge.
The Bully is allways the weakest.. they cant stand up for themself and need backup.

As it should be. Schools do absolutely nothing. Then when the bullied kid stands up for themselves they get in trouble.
My niece has been taught from day one that you tell an adult first. If nothing happens then you hit the kid back twice as hard next time.

u/hat1414 17d ago
The problem is the public little no idea what teachers deal with. Today I had a ten year old (typical kid, not on the spectrum or PLP) ask me if I remember "shutters". I didn't know wtf he was talking about and neither did his friend. He then said "maybe that wasn't his name. He was in Grade 5 last year. I wonder where he is now." I told him "hes probably in middle school, right?" "Oh yeah..." Was the response. This type of s*** happens way too often.
My point is you can't usually trust a child's perception of "Bullying". I'm sure in their Mind they are being bullied. But their minds are often very confused.

u/EitherChannel4874 17d ago
The same thing happened to my little brother most of the way through secondary school. He reported it and we reported it. Nothing was done.
Then when he finally snapped, my mum got a call that he was in trouble and being suspended.
I saw the same when I was in school 20 years before that.
It's just lame. Schools need to do better.

I'm sorry, what I wrote was that kids have very limited and often illogical perceptions of things, especially conflict. What a kid sees as "bullying" is often not really bullying. Not always, but often. And teacher have to navigate kids having weird perceptions and parent believing their kids

Bullies pulled my hair, stabbed me with sharp pencils, and knocked books out of my hands every day. The big kid lifted me up and another kid lifted my dress. Does that count?

That's exactly how you get a bully to stop. Speaking from childhood experience.

u/Spare-Ad538 17d ago
I actually instructed my kid that if she gets hit in school, don’t hit back, just defend, because I’ll sue the kid and his parents so hard that the parents will cry and then beat that kid themselves. (20 year paralegal)

As someone who works with small kids “but they hit me first!” is a terrible excuse I hear far, far too often.
And punching the kid teasing you just means you get suspended while the bully who egged you on walks away as the “victim.”
2
u/No_Freedom_8673 17d ago
Most parents I know will fight the school and just reward the kid suspended. Not really stopping families who hold to this view.
1
u/Fun_in_Space 16d ago
Why would it be a terrible excuse?
1
u/DJWGibson 16d ago
.... because two wrongs don't make a right?
That feels like a trick question.
Imagine trying to use that against a police officer. "But they cut me off first!"

I do contend. Before that step get the teachers involved. When their involvement fails, then proceeding to [Reddit censored act] is not only the bullys fault, but the teachers.

The only effective response towards anyone who aspires to subjugate another - IS violence.
Because THAT is the only language such a person understands immediately.
1
u/structuremonkey 17d ago
As a child I was taught to never start a physical fight, and i never did. I was also taught by the same person though, that if im attacked to fight like hell. And if I was beaten, the other kid(s) better have left bloodied, or I'd get beaten worse when I got home.
1
u/TheYellowFringe 17d ago
It's not nice nor honourable.
But what other choice is there when the other child won't listen to reason or requests to stop?
There is no other choice but to be more assertive.

Fafo or play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Lots of people today think and act like they are invincible and can do whatever they want no matter how wrong it since they are like "so what, there are no consequences for me".

I still got detention afterwards! I was told even one punch could have killed the other kid. So I suggest you don't.

I agree. You day stop once, they don’t listen. Ok, just say it again. They get punched my kid is floored. Not yet. Hold back. You say stop and they punch you AGAIN. Alright, punch them back

u/blissdiss 16d ago
Yeah, this just teaches the kid to hit first. Counter intuitive, when you're creating more bullies.
Plus, it doesn't solve anything. The bully is always going to be a bully cos their parents are shite. Why don't you go and punch the parents of the bully? Same thing. Not the kids fault they're like this.
-3
u/truci 17d ago
Not exactly how the US school system works. While I get the idea and sentiment behind the statement. And in theory I even support it.
But in practice this will cause your kid to have a hard life. If your kid ends up expelled from multiple schools and in juvenile hall because he punches kids that are mean to him.
Take this with a grain of salt patents.
4
u/FranVG1207 17d ago
Why would you think that he gets bullied in every school that he goes to?
-1
u/truci 17d ago
Bullies exist in all schools. But verbal bullying is a lot more common and schools suck at protecting kids who are being bullied verbally. If a child or even an adult decides punching people in the face in response w to verbal bullying then he will end up in jail. Thats just how our society works.

u/notyouraverageskippy 17d ago
Or you just ignore it and they get older and shoot up up their school killing 12 students and 1 teacher.
Is Columbine that old people forget both of the shooters were bullied?
2
u/betsylang 17d ago
THEY. WERE. THE. BULLIES!
No seriously. Those boys- and I dont remember their names bc fuck those kids- were popular students.
1
u/Important_Swim_2009 17d ago
Bro these ppl Litt think they’d be hitting ppl who say things to them lmao, you’re getting downvoted bc they live in la la land and think they’d school system would just allow it
-1
u/Jak1977 16d ago
This assumes the other kid is the problem. But if your kid is pressing other kids' buttons until they explode so they can use the excuse of self-defense to beat someone up, then you are the problem. If your kid is reacting to my kid bullying them, but they won't stop, then my kid has been instructed to punch your kid in the face.
Some kids are dickheads. So are some parents. Weirdly, these two tend to go together.
