Not My Cup Of Tea❗️ Taylor Swift fans ‘sickened’ after ICE contractor attends wedding
https://metro.co.uk/2026/07/05/taylor-swift-fans-sickened-ice-contractor-attends-wedding-29047436/178
u/KingHygelacReturns Jul 05 '26
She's a billionaire, first and foremost. No one should be shocked. Angry enough to stop listening to her? Sure. But not shocked.
55
u/SweetButQuestionable Jul 05 '26
Honestly, I agree people can decide for themselves whether this changes how they feel about her, but putting celebrities on a pedestal usually leads to disappointment.
34
u/turandokht Jul 05 '26
Oh they’ll never stop listening to her. Swifties are the MAGA of pop culture. It’s like expecting any of the farmers whining about the president they voted for to not support him or whoever he endorses in 2028. Nothing can shred the loyalty they have to this lady.
3
u/0rcabubbles Jul 06 '26
No. I was a swiftie and I’ll never listen to her again. Removed her from all my playlists. She’s dead to me. My SIL is also a life-long hardcore swiftie and is starting to do the same.
2
1
u/j_turn2000 Jul 07 '26
you’re one of the good ones (along with your SIL). it’s the parasocial swifties who base their entire personalities around being her fan that will not stop supporting her. they believe taylor can do no wrong.
1
u/0rcabubbles Jul 07 '26
You’re right, but it’s also important not to think of them as “others” who are like that. We all have biases of the same kind; beliefs that we are unwilling to abandon even when faced with contrary evidence. None of us are better than them, even tho it comforts us to tell ourselves that we are.

Yeah, but the kind of people who are Travis Kelce fans probably don't lean liberal. They're probably mostly "centrist" and pro-ICE.
0
u/Elliott2030 Jul 06 '26
Really? The first white guy to kneel with Kaepernick and Covid vaccine spokesman has conservative fans? You really think that.
2
u/Head_Somewhere4769 Jul 06 '26
Yes, I do. And it's not a far stretch. The Kaepernick controversy was years ago and people have short memories. Most of the Kelces' fans are male; most men vote conservative. I have yet to see a single segment of their show or read a quote from it in an article about him that makes me feel Travis is actually liberal. He sounds like every manosphere podcast bro ever.
6
u/MoonlitHemlock Jul 06 '26
Exactly, and people pushing it off onto Travis are just making excuses. She CHOSE to marry him, knowing who he is and who surrounds him. She also approved the guest list, people. Be so serious. She's not a nieve, young child, she's a grown ass woman. Open your eyes and use your brain for once. 🙄
-1
u/Elliott2030 Jul 06 '26
He is not maga, never has been. Open your eyes and quit reading snark pages for once.
3
u/Lost_Department_2177 Jul 06 '26
imagine becoming a billionaire and you’re limited to hanging out with a bunch of people in the files.
Billionaires are jaded and do sketchy crap all the time
-2
u/Elliott2030 Jul 06 '26
Please review the Epstein files and do let us know which of Taylor & Travis' guests are in them. I'll wait.
3
u/Jadeheartxo12 Jul 06 '26
You’ll be waiting for a while because 3 million files were deleted and names are still redacted.
0
u/Elliott2030 Jul 06 '26
Okay, so then as far as we know none of Taylor or Travis' family, friends, or wedding participants were in the Epstein files, correct? So why make that kind of statement?
Oh, you didn't. But you're defending it. Why?
34
u/jackm315ter Humanitarian ♥️ Jul 05 '26
She had been keeping anything political at a distance but you can’t keep it hidden for too long
13
u/Head_Somewhere4769 Jul 05 '26
I don't think it's been hidden in years...I don't think there's any difference between her releasing "You Need to Calm Down" and a corporation changing their logo on social media during pride month when LGBTQ rights were a popular cause. Both corporations and rich people are going full mask off now that fascism is rising around the world and LGBTQ people are under attack. Taylor Swift included.

We need someone to create an app that filters a topic out of every part of your phone.
Hides it on every app, internet search, etc.
2
u/surmacrew Jul 06 '26
Is it called "Swift away"?
1
u/wally_weasel Jul 06 '26
The first time I had this thought it was related to the Kardashians, but yeah, maybe.
1
u/Head_Somewhere4769 Jul 06 '26
I would honestly accept an app that allows you to filter out anyone you don't like. I don't care for either the Kardashians or Taylor Swift. They both suck. And I hate Elon Musk even more. He's not a genius inventor. He's just another rich boy. I'd prefer not to hear about any of them.

Huge “former “ swiftie. Never missed a tour, went to some twice. Been there since debut.
Her silence on Palestine is what did it for me. Add on selling voice memos and doing shitty things to artists like Olivia, Billie, and Charlie xcx…. Nothing surprises me anymore.

No one is looking for a celebrity to form a political opinion. I’m looking for someone with influence to speak up for those who don’t. Again, genocide isn’t political.
-10
u/EpiGreg Jul 05 '26
Why do you expect celebrities to follow in line with all your beliefs? It’s unrealistic
16
u/Puzzleheaded_Motor59 Jul 05 '26
Anyone who believes in genocide isn’t okay with me
-18
u/EpiGreg Jul 05 '26
So maybe you should’ve started checking around before you started going to her concerts?
10
u/Puzzleheaded_Motor59 Jul 05 '26
What is a concert concerts?
-4
u/EpiGreg Jul 06 '26
I’ve changed it hours ago but it is the product of voice software
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Motor59 Jul 06 '26
Again, I said I’ve been a fan since debut. Before she was 18. So I’m not sure what you mean by you should have known before. Love your criticism though. Have a great day.
-35
u/taney71 Jul 05 '26
Why does she have to have an opinion about Palestine? That’s just crazy. Should she have a position on every major issue in the world?
18
u/Puzzleheaded_Motor59 Jul 05 '26
Because she’s influential and it’s a genocide?
https://giphy.com/gifs/AAsj7jdrHjtp6-18
u/niceandBulat Jul 05 '26
It is an unfortunate and uncomfortable truth nowadays, if you stay silent you are considered complicit on whatever the masses feel that you are.
22
u/beanqueen722 Jul 05 '26
Why does expecting a billionaire, one of the elite 1%, the most powerful woman in the music industry, to speak on genocide make you uncomfortable?
I expect Elon, Jeff, and Mark to. Why not her? Why do we wrap certain billionaires in bubble wrap?
Let me know if I misread your comment…because I do think, in a way, you’re right. Complacency accompanies silence.
2
u/sal880612m Jul 06 '26
Honestly, she isn’t an authority on anything relevant to the issues at hand. Her having an opinion on it, either way, doesn’t make me uncomfortable, the idea that people like yourself would or should value it, does. Her opinion should at most inform an individual of whether or not to continue supporting her, if it does more than that, then we’ve already failed as a society to the point we may never recover.
-6
u/wembenbama Jul 05 '26
Because there are genocides and horrible things happening all over the globe, but you’re upset if she doesn’t speak out on the one that YOU care about.
9
u/Puzzleheaded_Motor59 Jul 05 '26
I could have mentioned Congo and Sudan, sure. But Palestine is being funded by the US. She speaks up about NOTHING. And we ALL should care
-7
u/wembenbama Jul 05 '26
Netenyahu just said he no longer wants US support. Hopefully we’ll end support asap.
9
u/Puzzleheaded_Motor59 Jul 05 '26
That’s not happening babe
-2
u/wembenbama Jul 06 '26
I think the US will stop financial support in the not too distant future.

u/beanqueen722 Jul 06 '26
Oh no, please don’t misunderstand. I am also critical of the fact that she doesn’t speak on many other things. It includes but is not limited to the genocide in Palestine.
-1
u/wembenbama Jul 06 '26
Do you think Taylor Swift is a highly intelligent person?
2
u/beanqueen722 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26
Couldn’t tell you, I don’t know her personally. People have made arguments for her being intelligent and others have made arguments for her being unintelligent, but people are multifaceted and I think it’s reductive to put her into one box.
-3
u/niceandBulat Jul 05 '26
I could not care less of what people think or don't think, it's their right. To make a public stand on issues or not it's also up to them. I don't know much about Taylor Swift other than she is a giant on thr entertainment world, I am also perhaps one of the very few who actually cannot remember any of her songs, not because of anything else but because I don't care about pop music that much. No love for Sudan, Congo, Uyghurs in Chinese camps, IS wars in Chad and Mauritania or even the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria? So many issues, must she and others take a stand on every one of them? I am not defending rich people and some of them are truly despicable, but if you lot think everyone must take a stand then that is just so very much against the liberties touted here.
4
u/Puzzleheaded_Motor59 Jul 05 '26
She’s taken a stand on NONE of them. No issues in the United States either.
When she told people to vote in 2020, SO many ppl registered. She’s powerful. She should do something to make the world a better place
3
u/niceandBulat Jul 05 '26
I understand the power of celebrity endorsement on people who couldn't decide on whether to wear black and white or white and black. Sarcasm asides, I understand your POV, but ultimately it's her choice. We may desire her to take a stand on issues dear to us but hating her for not is also isn't right. Perhaps one day she would, just not now. I don't know. Have a good week ahead.
0
u/beanqueen722 Jul 06 '26
You’re right—it is her choice. I as a consumer of media, I can choose to only support those who speak up on issues that are important to me. I can choose to point out the dissonance of choices of people like Taylor, who claim and market themselves to be human-forward. This is not limited to Taylor, but it includes her. It’s not hate, it’s valid criticism.
I will not be made to feel bad about that. Period. I am okay with someone not agreeing from me, but I will not budge on this.

u/BooksNCatsNWineNSnax Jul 06 '26
Do you not understand what the word “complicit” means?
0
u/niceandBulat Jul 06 '26
Do you know that not everyone needs to have stand? If you don't stop with all the talk about freedom, as you lot obviously don't get it.
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Motor59 Jul 06 '26
Yes, you’re right. It’s much better to stay silent. I love my tax tolerance being sent overseas to harm children. I’m so glad that my husband’s fire station is being cut with funding and so is the school I teach at let’s just not take a stand.
0
u/BooksNCatsNWineNSnax Jul 06 '26
Here, let me give you an example. “Those who stay silent are complicit.” I hope that helps, although you’re not inspiring much confidence that it will.

I don’t have any issues with Taylor Swift personally but as a reminder it’s impossible to be an ethical, good billionaire. Like sure, she gives fun bonuses for her tour team but when you have the kind of money she has (and, as a society, have the poverty we have), it’s gross to even have it. For context she owns homes in at least 3 different, famously housing scarce cities. Like if you walk in LA or NYC or Nashville and see a homeless person or family, there’s literally an unused home available (and realistically one that could be repurposed to fit dozens of people).
I just think you have to be disconnected from reality to think that’s okay.
2
u/Fisch_Kopp_ Jul 06 '26
Everything about this wedding was just bizarre from start to finish. I am seriously wondering what kind of person you have to be to voluntarily marry in MSG of all places with over a thousand people in attendance, most of which you basically dont know or have met for just a few minutes in your life...
5
u/Ok_Month_1384 Jul 05 '26
Never liked her. Thought her music sucked and I really wish to never see or hear of her and Sasquatch (and his annoying mother) ever again.
5
u/Looking_4_fun_also Jul 05 '26
Who cares about her wedding. Are people so desperate to live their life through her that they think they can tell her to invite to her wedding? And she should have not made her wedding so public as to invite all this ridiculousness. What the Vegas odds on their wedding anyway?

Estimates for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's July 2026 wedding at Madison Square Garden range from $20 million to $50 million.
…. Maybe this should sicken them more 🤔
2
u/Elliott2030 Jul 06 '26
Why would spending money in a city in the US in which they live, while hiring union labor sicken anyone?
Isn't that what rich people are supposed to do? Or would you prefer they hoard it?
-1
u/Mean_Measurement4527 Jul 06 '26
Wouldn’t it be better to donate that to charity… cause people sure vilify Bezos , Musk etc when they hire people and spend money in US cities
3
u/Elliott2030 Jul 06 '26
They did donate $26 million dollars.
And Taylor and Travis hire union workers, they don't bust unions. They also pay their employees well above fair wages and provide good insurance coverage.
Bezos and Musk do not.
1
u/lavender_rosess Jul 06 '26
Apparently he is a relative (dad? Adoptive dad? I haven’t seen exact confirmation) of one of Travis’s childhood friends. He’s definitely gross, sure. But I think it’s a stretch to say Taylor personally aligns with his shitty actions. She’s not perfect, but some people will take literally anything to paint her as the devil.
-2
u/Elliott2030 Jul 06 '26
People are just going insane over anything they think she might have done, as usual.
What I'm loving is "Fucking rich people spending money on union labor and local shops! How dare they?!"
2
u/NoCardiologist1461 Jul 06 '26
Do you think she has spent money locally? Or on those unionized cops used to organize traffic and security around the event? Probably not.
0
u/Elliott2030 Jul 06 '26
Why do you hate someone so much that you want to go online and fight about what a terrible person she is when she's done NOTHING to harm you or anyone else.
And yes, she lives in New York, she spends locally and pays taxes including the extra tax for having her second home in New York. And she hired local union labor for her wedding. The actual AFL-CIO tweeted about it, so don't tell me I'm the one that doesn't know what I'm talking about.
2
u/NoCardiologist1461 Jul 06 '26
Why do you assume immediately that I hate someone I criticize? What a black and white world, with only love and hate, no criticism possible. One can only critique someone who actively harms them? Weird.
Good for her that she hired them, I stand corrected on them. But the rest remains: this was a terrible demonstration of wealth and privilege, with massive consequences for traffic and freedom of movement for those living nearby.
And I do think they have not spent time sufficient time together to get to know them in and out. This marriage will not last.
0
u/Elliott2030 Jul 06 '26
No, it was NOT massive consequences. You don't live there. It was any other day near Madison Square Garden.
And they donated $28 million to charities. Why must you 'criticize' when you don't know what you are talking about? Literally. You don't know. You're talking out your ass because she's rich and even though she earned every dime of it off of her own talent and hard work, you people act like she's PDiddy or something.
2
u/NoCardiologist1461 Jul 07 '26
26 million, but whatever.
PDiddy? What are you talking about? That is a whole other person with a whole other set of issues. My criticism has nothing to do with her being rich. I assume she worked hard for that, nobody said she was lazy.
The inconvenience it caused was quite clear, to quote some articles:
“Both Penn Station and Midtown were shut down ahead of the wedding, disrupting daily commutes for many New Yorkers. The shut down came amid a heatwave in the city, with temperatures climbing to 100°F.”
“A cop spoke to The U.S. Sun on Friday and explained that while the police force is grateful that the husband-and-wife duo have reportedly donated millions of dollars to the widows of officers and firefighters and are paying a portion of overtime pay, they are frustrated by the wedding logistics.”
“The proposed closures coincide with one of the busiest weekends of the year, just ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Therefore, it has raised concerns about traffic congestion and disruption for commuters and local businesses.
The possibility of shutting down public roads for a private celebrity event has triggered widespread criticism, with many questioning whether any couple, regardless of their fame, should enjoy such privileges.”
I don’t have to have experienced everything myself before I can criticize it. You live there and weren’t inconvenienced? Good for you. But that’s like saying ‘Well I just had lunch, so that hunger thing I read about is obviously not true.’
4
u/Brief_Reveal2225 Jul 06 '26
Actually no. The allegations are very serious. Silence over Palestine, dog-whistles, Nazi symbolism, billionaire exploitation of an audience, destroying the planet, appeasing maga, lukewarm support for Kamala after A LOT of public scrutiny, queer-baiting, the whole Kennedy Boy situation, Travis Kelce prancing across a football field to say hi to Trump, the way she never grows as a person, the way she’s never became a better singer/songwriter… I’m sure I forgot some… that’s not “going insane over anything they think she may have done.” She DID those things. People are right to criticize.
1
u/Elliott2030 Jul 06 '26
None of that is true. Literally none of it. She never queer-baited, she's an ally and a bunch of idiots made that into a story that she's gay and got mad when she wasn't.
The only one with even a modicum of truth is "The Kennedy boy situation" She went out with Connor Kennedy for a few months when he was 17 and she was 22. Certainly not ideal, but also not a crime.
They invited Travis' friend's stepdad, a Republican state senator and you think that overrides Abby Wambaugh and Glennon Doyle? The wedding was incredibly diverse, with a large number of gay and Black friends and family and you think she's a Nazi?
Look at yourself. You are listening to the worst corners of the internet instead of looking for truth. Now who's being brainwashed by the algorithm?
1
u/Flintlander Jul 06 '26
If I invited 1000 people to an event, despite my best intentions I can see how a nazi or two slips into the event, especially when there are plus ones. It’s unrealistic to expect that they would do background checks on everyone.
1
u/scenior Jul 06 '26
She's wouldn't be doing the background checks herself. She has a whole damn team that could do it. Don't infantilize her.
1
u/cjester414 Jul 06 '26
Saw someone post "It's a big club and you're not in it."
Every billionaire is a policy failure.
1
1
u/JediBoJediPrime29 Jul 06 '26
Idk why it’s taken her fans so long to figure it all out. She hangs out with a lot of Republicans and is a billionaire. She doesn’t really say anything against the administration or the fact they use her songs in their propaganda ads. Her fans try and make her sound like a “scared little girl who didn’t know better!” But she’s 36… and you can’t say “oh what about Travis??” Because a couple chooses their wedding guests together. Every part of a wedding is throughly discussed and planned.
She could do a lot of change with her wealth but instead she’s being nice to the worst people you know.
I get we all like nostalgia and she was awesome when we were kids but we’re all adults now and we can so obviously see the nice persona built up around a bad person yet for so many of us we get a shocked pikachu face when she shows us who she is.
