Discussion Fred Meyer / Kroger is slowly removing "loose" produce from their stores

My local FM no longer gives me the option to pick out my own pears or apples. I also have to buy a pre determined quantity. Pears are sold as a four pack, for example. I thought maybe it was just my store. Nope. Saw the same exact thing in Eugene this weekend.

Yes, I can go to New Seasons or whatever. Stupid expensive. Farmers markets are great in season. I could stop eating fruit altogether. There are solitons.

Late stage capitalism sucks.

Indoor short haired black cat with yellow eyes and sparse white hairs on a patch on her chest. She got out sometime yesterday (10/3) and was last seen near NE10th and NE Stanton. She’s probably skittish. Her name is Shitten. Please contact me if you think you’ve seen her.

Lost & Found Did you lose a black & white pitt bull-mix dog near the 138th Costco?

This so-far very friendly, intact male dog was running loose up and down 138th near the Costco this evening. He has a sturdy harness but no ID that I've found so far.

He hopped right in my car, which I decided was a safer place for him than the street. He'll be hanging out in our yard, as safe as we can make it for him (but very far from the Costco). Holler if he's yours or you have any ideas about where he might belong.

I haven't gotten him scanned yet cuz it's Sunday night, will tomorrow however I doubt he's got a chip.

Meetups I would like to help

Hey everyone,

I currently find myself unemployed, I quit my job about a month ago and am planning to go back to school and finish a degree at the beginning of the year. I’ve tried applying to some part-time jobs and continue looking for work but until then I have a lot of free time.

I wanted to offer to help people who need hands, no expectation of payment. I really care about community service and I want to use my free time making life a little easier for people in my city. The only thing I ask is to be treated kindly, that there be patience if I’m helping with something that is new to me that I need to learn, and if there are tools required that they be provided.

If you need some help please feel free to DM, we can meet up beforehand over coffee if it makes you feel a bit better/safer. As for deets on me -I’m a 38m, long hair, gentle demenor, tall, on the burlier side.

After the thorns game, at the trimet stop, there was this car with some sort of mechanism on a car that shoots flames. I’m not entirely sure what to call it or what it was for but thought I’d share I apologize if this doesn’t fit the rules.

Discussion Why are we not protesting the insane increases in our utility bills?!

Our water bureau bills have went up by 40% in the last 10 years and PGE the same in about 5 years! It’s crazy and projected increases are on the table yet no local media reports on it and our local political reps never talk about. It’s unsustainable and criminal. Call and email your political reps. We should all go on a refuse to pay protest!

The raccoon design specifically has many elements that associated with AI generative art. Living in a city and state with so many talented artists and designers, this is pretty disappointing - especially from a business that is supposed to highlight Oregon creatives.

Discussion I just want a job

My job cut my hours and I'm going to have to move away if I can't find a new job. I have a weird specific degree that became irrelevant post Covid. I am an expert in my current field(which requires no degree but is stuck at minimum wage) but I can't even find a job in that field. I just want to work. No one is actually hiring. I have applied for 300+ jobs since January of this year. I've had 10 interviews. Every interview goes well but I'm competing with 200 people who have also applied. I'm a single person with a bachelors degree and no kids, with 15 years job experience in multiple fields, I don't need much. I work hard. I'm kind and respectful. I follow the rules. I dress well. I care about people in my community. I volunteer and donate extra money when I can. How is anyone surviving without 6 roommates and a bio/tech degree?

Edit: I was mostly just ranting into the void, but I really appreciate other people trying to help me find something and relating their experiences. I really appreciate it.

Edit 2: thank you again y'all. I thought it would be a post to just complain but everyone has been really kind. I also want to say that I am a basic costume maker and seamstress/clothing mender, so if anyone needs any clothes mended lmk! :')
