Discussion What does it look like for Digger at this point?

Post image

Not only is it doing pretty poorly critically, but it's also projected to be the biggest bomb of this year. Not one of but THE biggest bomb. And I'm sure this will definitely affect its chances during awards season

I can see it losing all of the major categories (Picture, Director, Acting categories, Original Screenplay), though considering Cruise's performance is said to be one of its highlights, maybe he might have a chance. Goodman and Huller probably aren't as lucky

It might still have a chance in the technical categories (Cinematography, Editing, Product Design, Makeup/Hairstyling, Costume Design, Score, Costume Design)

Discussion Could Timothee Finally Get an Oscar Nomination for Paul Atreides?

Do you guys see any chance of Timothee or even Pattinson getting nominated in any acting categories for Dune Part Three? I’m sure both of them are going to absolutely kill it.
The film is also releasing much closer to the Awards season this time, so I think we can expect better awards results than Dune Part Two. But we never know, especially since the Academy has never exactly been fair to this genre for the most part.

Chalamet will have to contend with John Malkovich, currently the frontrunner for Wild Horse Nine according to most predictions, along with Matt Damon and Tom Cruise, I’m not sure how strong Cruise’s chances are given the film’s polarizing reception, but his performance is easily my favourite of the year. That ten minute monologue in the European Parliament is something I genuinely cannot stop thinking about.

Pattinson is a little more complicated. I’m convinced his performance as Scytale will be one of the highlights of the year, and he could certainly be in contention for Supporting Actor for Dune Part Three. However, if he gets recognised for Primetime, it would be in the Lead Actor category. Has an actor ever been nominated in both Lead and Supporting at the Oscars in the same year? Seeing Pattinson pull that off would be incredible, although I know that i am getting ahead of myself.

At the very least, I hope Timothee gets a nomination. It’s his last time playing Paul Atreides, and I’d love to finally see the role get the recognition it deserves.

Man, the discourse around these two films last year was insane

And it was pretty legendary to watch it unfold between would this be Ryan Coogler possible Oscar win for best Director to Sean Penn winning supporting actor role. To the consistent bickering from both camps. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Discussion Susan Sarandon should’ve been nominated for “Bull Durham” (1989 Oscars)

Jodie Foster won her first statue for The Accused. The other nominees that year were Sigourney Weaver (Gorillas in the Mist), Meryl Streep (A Cry in the Dark), Glenn Close (Dangerous Liaisons), and Melanie Griffith (Working Girl). It’s a strong line up, but Sarandon‘s Annie Savoy is a comedy performance for the ages in the same league as Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny.

Discussion 2026 Razzies

I know the Razzies are divisive but recently I was thinking that they actually might have their work cut out for them this year. Because even though there have been a lot of great films this year; there have also been some real dumpster fires. It feels like every month, there are headlines saying ‘This is the new worst film of the year’.
So between Wuthering Heights, the Melania documentary, Desert Warrior, Mercy, Animal Farm, Scream 7, Return to Silent Hill, Psycho Killer, the live action Moana, Ice Cream Man, The Runner, Verity, Run Hide Fight: Jihad, and Citizen Vigilante this might be a very competitive Razzie awards. And knowing the Razzies, they’ll probably give Digger a few nominations.
So what do you guys think? Will this year’s Razzies actually be interesting?

The Social Reckoning chances?

So reviews aren’t out yet but the buzz around it is not very good. It seems pretty negative actually and it is tracking low for box office sales. Seems like it’s being left out of awards conversations too.

Do you think it has any chance and maybe score a few nominations?

Discussion How come some comedic actors get recognized by the Academy for their dramatic work while others don't?

Thumbnail
gallery
42 Upvotes

Actors like Tom Hanks and Robin Williams who were well known for their many silly funny movies didn't seem to have much of a problem getting recognized by the Academy for their more dramatic work. (Though Hanks is an interesting case, 'cause his first nomination for Best Actor was for one of his silly funny movies, that being Big (1988).)

But then when other actors best known for their whacky comedies play against type in legit. critically acclaimed dramas like Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler, the Academy doesn't seem to notice or care.

How come some funny guys have better luck with the Academy than others?

Also, this is largely just a thought exercise and not a comment on whether there should be gender-neutral categories or not. Regardless, the only way I see a path towards something like that, is if they open up Actor for everyone, while keeping Actress as is

Now having said that, which actors do you guys think would win in these years, if the categories were made gender neutral?

Discussion What did you think of Charles Melton’s performance in May December?

Post image
105 Upvotes

Charles Melton is one of my favorite performances in May December. He deserved an Oscar nomination for that. He even got snubbed at SAG and wasn’t shortlisted at the BAFTA. He has GG and CCA nominations. But the good news is he won at least a Gotham Award. He deserves it. He is my Best Supporting Actor pick even though I’m happy for RDJ when he won. So what you think of Charles Melton’s performance in May December?

She won the Golden Globe and was expected to get nominated for EVITA. It didn't happen. Why?

"You Must Love Me" did win an Academy Award however she didn't write the song so she was empty-handed.

Should Jessica Chastain have been nominated for Mollys Game?

Molly’s Game: It’s one of my favorite movies and Chastain was outstanding as Molly. Such a good performance, but I am not sure if that’s because I have a blind spot for her and Sorkin. He other nominees that year were:
Sally Hawkins — The Shape of Water
Frances McDormand — Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Margot Robbie — I, Tonya
Saoirse Ronan — Lady Bird
Meryl Streep — The Post

I have only seen Three billboards and the post out of these, but it’s been a while.

Alternate Oscars — New Two-Round Acting Game: 2013 Winners

Thumbnail
gallery
9 Upvotes

We’ve completed the nomination round, and now it’s time to choose the winners.

The five performances with the most points in each category in Round One are now the official nominees.

ROUND TWO — WINNERS

This round is much simpler.

Vote for ONE nominee in each of the four acting categories.

That means your ballot should contain four names in total:

  • 1 Actor
  • 1 Actress
  • 1 Supporting Actor
  • 1 Supporting Actress

There are no rankings and no points system in this round. You are simply voting for the performance you think should win each category.

Each vote counts equally, and the nominee with the most votes in each category will become our Alternate Oscar winner for 2013.

Please only vote for the nominees listed below.

BEST ACTOR

  • Leonardo DiCaprio — The Wolf of Wall Street
