General Wealth Helps People Survive Here

Even if it is "just" a house owned by their great/grandparents, that is a huge leg up.

I just thought of this because someone was talking about the lack of work ethic in state workers.

Not only do some of them have union protection so they won't get fired for doing just above the bare minimum but it's like there is no ambition. And maybe it's because they've got a paid for home to live in? So, just cruise.

I'm sure the property taxes are what they are, but I just don't see how most people can survive unless they have that kind of support system.

And I don't have that at all. That is all.

ETA: I obviously meant Generational Wealth. I can't change the title, though. Lol.

Moving Companies recommendations?

I’m moving from a house in Kalihi to a condo in town. Kalihi house is 3 bedroom but we don’t really use the third and are planning on getting rid of a lot of stuff like workout gear.

House in town has two floors which I am concerned about. My finances wants to just get a U-Haul but I’m worried about the heavy pieces of furniture that need to go upstairs. I’m hoping to get some estimates that seem reasonable that will change his mind so we don’t have to do all the heavy lifting.

I’m also curious if anyone can give an idea of what they’ve paid for similar moves? We are somewhat traumatized after hiring movers in Brooklyn to a move us to a home 10 blocks away and getting charged $900 for them to not move all of our stuff and then threaten us because they wanted a 40% tip (20% for each mover 🙃).

I’ve seen some postings about 2 guys a truck and Kamaina movers. I’ve used Royal Hawaiian before to move from Hawaii to Mainland so I know how expensive they are and I’m trying to be a little more frugal.

I’d like to ask for your opinion on something. Is this running a red light or not, legally?

Received a ticket for this, I’ve been trying to fight it, and got a written statement (with screenshots of this video) ruled against me.

Should I go to trial or take the L on this?

Edit: I say legally, because this is the statute:

“Vehicular traffic facing a steady red signal alone shall stop at a clearly marked stop line or, if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection and shall remain standing until an indication to proceed is shown, except as provided in subparagraphs (B) and (C).”

I am crossing the stop line and crosswalk on the near side of the intersection before it turns red.

Or is that not the correct interpretation of the law?

As a tourist coming in for the weekend holiday any interesting Halloween happenings?

I assume the Waikiki strip will be lively during the evening.

Anything else local happenings to check out? Events or food, etc?

Board Game Community Events For October :)

Hi! My name is Josh, and I'm someone that loves organizing! I have been facilitating events under our group, Pacific Tabletop Network!

We are a Honolulu-based tabletop board game meetup group. Our goal is to connect people through community and create a social, inclusive, and genuinely fun gaming environment for all backgrounds and cultures. This group is a free and inclusive space for adults to socialize and meet each other on island.

My focus is to offer a light activity where people can network, socialize, and have fun, with tabletop games as their theme. We typically meet Monday - Thursday evenings, with each event averaging an attendance of 16+ players! People of all experiences and backgrounds are welcome, but our average demographic is adults in their 30s.

We are on Meetup, Instagram, and a website: PacificTabletop .Net

Hope to see you there, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

Any cool Halloween events happening this year?

Aloha! My family and I are visiting and trying to make the most out of a visit that starts just before Halloween. I was curious if there were any cool events that yall would recommend. There are no kids amongst our group, but also no crazy thrill seekers (so likely no jumpscare mazes). So events like adult only nights at Wet 'n' Wild or similar suggestions would be awesome!

Thanks in advance!

Just a heads up, keep track of what orders arrive. They consistently short expensive orders, it's not fun repeatedly telling the staff what never came.
