MLB Stop the count
We'll be at the quarter poll in two games, and .500 is possible. Can anyone HONESTLY say they expected the team to be this competitive into May?

Obviously, this is r/baseball's time to shine; note that our own u/yousmelllikebiscuits is a key mod there, so the place will be up to his standards.
This thread exists for Nats fans to talk amongst ourselves: please highlight any former Nats doing well in the greener pastures of October baseball (example: the Bryce Harper experience) and discuss why you like a team still in the show and what they're doing.
10/1 Update: the Phuckers at Braves is the only WC series to go to a game three and will be on NBC and Peacock in the primetime spot of 8pm.

Have the Phillies-Braves game on. Really enjoying Votto’s commentary. He adds a lot to the broadcast. When he talks about his experience it is directly relevant to the game. He had a brilliant breakdown just a few minutes ago about how Mahle is setting up the Phillies hitters.
I don’t really watch a ton of games besides the nationals, and haven’t really heard him before. Got to say I’m really impressed.
Know this isn’t directly nationals related but it is N.L east related and it is the offseason for us. Hope this dumb little post is alright.

Hello!
We're u/MLBOfficial, and we need your help.
Months ago, we were brainstorming ways that we could celebrate America 250. We kept coming back to finding a way to capture all of the unique things that make baseball special. The on-field moments, the unique players and play styles, the ballpark traditions, the oddities. We asked ourselves, if we could show someone a collection of things that truly captures and defines what baseball is, what would we show them?
To answer that question, we are scouring our archives to find 250 things that define baseball. Clutch plays, ridiculous feats of athleticism, batting stances and windups, drama-filled games. At the end of the project, these 250 things will be rolled out in yet-to-be-revealed categories that we can hold up and say, "Do you want to know what baseball is all about? This is your answer."
Baseball means different things to different people, so we want this collection to be shaped by the fans who know every corner of the game. That's why we're here. We want you to tell us the plays/ moments from your team's history that embody the spirit of baseball. That could be the most important home run in franchise history, a throw from the outfield you've replayed a hundred times, an unsung hero coming through in a pivotal moment, a fan moment that went viral, a tradition specific to your ballpark. Everything is fair game if you think it belongs in the tapestry of the game.
Comment in this thread with your ideas, and tell us why they should be included.

Washington struck early again last night against the Giants, with James Wood reaching base before Luis García Jr. hit a two-run homer.
The Nationals now lead MLB with 53 first-inning runs.

Going into 2026 it was almost a sure thing, but after the union comments it seems like a guarantee. Any predictions on how long it will last? These things always look bad from the beginning but in some rare cases (NHL in 2005, MLB in 1994) they are.

I’ve had the Ballpark Access plan for a couple years after moving to Navy Yard. I loved the ability to earn points, upgrade my seats occasionally and cash in points through Red Carpet rewards.
I recently learned that Ballpark Pass Owners no longer accrue points and it was not communicated upon purchase. A huge reason I bought this plan was to be able to go into the ballpark and catch a few innings without any guilt and to support my local team when I knew I had a busy schedule on a certain day.
Ballpark Access Plan owners are season ticket holders. We spend the same amount at the concession and teams stores. To not communicate the change in the plan with no warning is a huge oversight to people who have been fans of the Nats through the highs and (many) lows…

I knew the Nats were bad, and I knew their pitching was god awful, but I was hoping that their not horrendous hitting might not leave them in dead last, but ig I’m wrong

Couldn’t imagine them saying giving those answers last year, this franchise has truly entered the 21st century.
I especially love CJ’s self-awareness, recognizing that he struggles when he’s chasing outside of the zone.

Scheduling is a complete rat's nest: be prepared for the Office of the Commissioner's decision to somehow let them hand off between an amalgam of TBS/HBO Max for the AL and Fox/FS1/"FoxONE" for the NL. This may require some attention.

Just thinking that a team that scores so much might get some banner cred in the park even if they don't take their division? For a just above .500 team they have had an very impressive offensive first half (lets ignore the bullpen and errors for a moment).

Crazy that it’s been five years since the Nats had a winning record this late in the season. Hopefully things are only up from here
pitching needs a lot of work but honestly I didn’t think the team could be this good with a new manager and not doing a lot the last several off seasons

I know it’s still very early in the season, and the sample size is pretty small. Maybe I’m overreacting. However, as of now, James Wood is posting a slash line of .111/.200/.296, with a 40% strikeout rate and a 37.9% whiff rate. His poor performance can be explained by chasing too many pitches outside the zone (36.1% chase rate) and hitting too many ground balls (53.3% ground ball rate with a 1.5° launch angle), along with fewer line drives (13.3%). Although the power still seems to be there—as shown by his 110.0 mph exit velocity on an opposite field line drive home run against the Cubs on 3/28—most of the time he seems to be overwhelmed by opposing pitchers.
My question is is there anything wrong with his swing? From what I can see on Baseball Savant, his batting stance and swing path haven’t changed much. So what’s the problem?

| Depth in Box (Inches) | Distance off Plate (Inches) | Distance between Feet (Inches) | Stance Angle | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 31.0 | 30.1 | 28.0 | 21° Open |
| 2026 | 32.0 | 29.5 | 32.5 | 21° Open |
| Bat Speed (MPH) | Swing Length (ft) | Attack Angle | Attack Direction | Swing Path Tilt | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 76.0 | 7.7 | 11° | 2° Opp | 40° |
| 2026 | 75.2 | 7.2 | 10° | 7° Opp | 39° |
