Question how was this created ?
whats the easiest way of achieving the arbitrary letter scale animation? were these art directed and animated individually?

A lot of this is just good motion graphics fundamentals.
You create tension/energy and then release it. It makes the animation flow smoothly and seamlessly

So just for an experiment, I tried out a text animator based on Evan Abrams' 'Dynamically resizing line of shapes' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlPUM2Dvq7E), slightly altering his expression to use on an expression selector of a text layer, for the Doel Festival.
It was a fun thing to try, but it'd be far from efficient for creating vrintskolsteren's (https://www.instagram.com/vrintskolsteren/) work using this method

I would probably do this with DrawBot instead of AfterEffects. Prototype easing with AE and make the rest with code.

Looks like they're manipulating arrays with some kind of selection when it has that wave effect. That could be hand done or with a selection method. That's the part that makes me wonder what tool was used.
You could do this in anything that has the width of a letter as a value as then you can have an array behave under certain rules of how it maintains the justified width when you scale one of the letters.
Not what you'd use, but I achieved something like this a long time ago with layout groups in Unity for the title screen for a game a where you close different types of doors.
Cavalry would let you do this, as would After Effects and in both you'd need maths to measure and apportion scale to letters.

This looks like a variable-font setup with each word as a separate text layer. Animate the font size or scale, then keyframe position and opacity so the words overlap and reshuffle. It could be done in After Effects, Cavalry, or even Blender.

You can get Claude to do the heavy lifting for you, this kind of animation is easy with GSAP
You would create an animation with the logic reversed, start with the proper arrangement and work backwards

Why, do you enjoy manually clicking 100,000 times till you achieve this? You can just tell claude what you want it to do, like a slave
The art is what you ask for, what you consider done and what needs changing

Some of us enjoy clicking 100,000 times to create something ourselves, if you can believe it.
Also, what are you going to bill the client for an animation that AI created in minutes, when it's not worth more than the price of a Happy Meal? Good luck finding enough clients to make a living doing that, especially once clients realize they don't need you to write a prompt for AI to spit out uninspired, soulless slop.

If you enjoy it then that’s your hobby. Won’t survive the commercial world

The big "commercial world" where you can make pennies by automating stuff, imitating what someone else already made, rather than creating an actual product, and ask an AI to copycat it instead of being a copycat yourself!!! The best market. Teach us all. You will be making big money with this approach, trust me.

I just did above, tell Claude what you want and it’s done in seconds. How close the result is to your vision depends on how well you describe it

Wow! You must be one of the few specialists who can describe his core knowledge to a machine. Awesome. Tell us more. Tell us about the future where you don't need to even know what a text animator is to describe it. The future where you don't even need to be able to use it to have any kind of control over it. The perfection of a workflow where instead of straight up clicking you instruct a machine on how to click and wait as it takes its time and inteprets your instruction wrong and spits out an unusable output, but who cares, because you can't even edit it yourself. It's amazing that we can now talk 2 hours to an AI to maybe get an half working half editable project, describing it perfectly without even knowing what a text animator is. Finally we are not clicking on stuff.
Thanks god for sending such an enlightened messiah to bless us with such a solid, rational, substantiated vision.

You people used to do what you describe with pencils and paper. One paper per frame.

You're right, it is my hobby. And my job. And I have not only survived the commercial world for more than twenty years doing what I love, I have made a good living from it. And I'm not going to let some random guy on Reddit, who's coming from a culture of conspicuous wealth where profit and status are often treated as measures of value, tell me otherwise.

Insane how you’re so focused on one specific way of doing things. You are to hand animators what AI is to you
1
u/Eaton_Corvinus 23h ago
That's a cute comparison, but it's fundamentally flawed. Hand animators don't remove the animator from the creative process. AI does. I'm not against tools that make my work faster or easier; I'm against pretending that generating an output is equivalent to actually creating something. There's a pretty significant difference. If you can't see the difference between a tool that helps an animator create and a system that replaces the creative process itself, that's your limitation, not mine.

You don’t know what you are talking about.

u/Eaton_Corvinus 22h ago
Sure, it is me who doesn't know what he's talking about. 😂 Do you have 20 years of experience under your belt? Are you even a motion designer, or are you just a fraud that types a few words into an AI and calls its generation your original work?
I'm done talking to you little pretentious shit.

No man. I see you're completely missing the point. The point is not that AI can and will one day do this. The point is that Opus 5.5 is out since two weeks, wildly untested in the real world motion graphic field, and the only way to assume you had the time to R&D it enough to state dead certain that
You can get Claude to do the heavy lifting for you, this kind of animation is easy with GSAP
is that you had literal nothing to do in the last two weeks, in other words, you don't have an actual job, probably are not even a professional motion graphic designer, yet suggest workflows, which is very laughable.
Which is also why my comment is at the top and yours at the bottom.
But sure, tell me you're enlightened and the only one who understands "the power of AI".
Also good luck describing something you can't actually explain to an AI.

u/Secret-Lawfulness-47 1d ago
AI can do this now. You don’t get it clearly. There is image generation with AI, and there is using AI to control your apps or code sequences based on your spec. I am referring to the latter - use claude to control after effects, cavalry or create in browser animations you can export in any fps and dimentions you want
2
u/-Neem0- 1d ago
Wow, that's such esoteric knowledge? How did you manage to find such a niche topic that was spammed hundreds of times on a daily basis on every motion design forum? Please, tell me more. I'm totally unaware of what opus 5.5 can do and I have absolutely no idea how to integrate AI in my workflow. Also I must be the only one who feels like I don't have a complete grasp of what a 2 weeks old tech can an cannot do, and clearly you're enlightened and know how that shit will behave perfectly, because you are blessed, and everyone who has any kind of objection or doubt is a neo luddist and an idiot. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

My guess is that it's Cavalry with something like horizontal layout.
like in this post: https://www.instagram.com/antonin.work/p/DMe-0LpMIYg/?img_index=4
ore here in the Cavalry App documentation:
