How does the approval process work for subs needed mod reserve?

So I got a request for mod reserve and I am sure a bunch of others got it too. So I am wondering, when you get the notification, was this already gone through an approval process? As when I looked at the sub in question, I didn't see any that needed immediate response of any kind.

I saw the same when the new process started. The notice/request I saw didn't seem to be any sort of emergency or unexpected situation, but rather a team that just needed to hire more mods. My understanding has always been that the program is meant to assist subs with sudden needs, like they are being brigraded or a world event has caused a huge surge in activity, and not to function as a substitute for r/needamod.

Watch out if you tell them (the mods that asked for help) you might get banned from that sub and others they mod. Then perma muted when asked why you got banned. It has happened to me more than once all because I asked if they were looking for more mods to stay on as perma mods or just need help for an event or emergency.

I still haven't gotten an answer back from the admins on this. I've been banned from so many subs just because I was a mod helping out on a sub. This is an amazing program to help noob mod teams but it has some huge holes that should be fixed with some type of admin help. Some of the teams I've helped out still reach out to ask questions and invite me back for a few days to review stuff. I always tell them I will not stay long. I don't get paid for this. It is a hobby.

I wish admins were able to give us a mask or some type of mod res account. I say a mask because when we join the mod team our username shows up on the mod list and we get roped into whatever is happening. That can lead to harassment and things that happen on our daily subs we mod.

Wow, that's gratitude for you! Issue a call for help and then ban people who offer to help? This system is just being abused by some, it seems.

Having used the mod reserves program before being a member of the program - I am not aware that my request went through any sort of approval. I received a handful of responses from individual moderators volunteering their service and made my own choices from among the respondents.

Keep in mind, you currently can't see under the hood. Their automod could be a complete mess and they may have 1000 filtered items in their queue.
