Help / Question GLM on Vibe Code or API/Studio ?

Hello
I have a Pro subscription and use GLM 5.3 with the CLI interface.

From what I understood, in this case I am using Vibe Code, yet in the details of my subscription, I see that I only have:

12.75 € of allowance for API/Studio
127.5 € of allowance for Vibe Code

And despite my exclusive use of the CLI (Vibe Code), I have:

0 € / 127.5 € of Vibe Code allowance used, and
6.18 € / 12.75 € of API/Studio allowance used

Is this because GLM usage is deducted from the (tiny) API/Studio allowance rather than from the Vibe Code one?
Why is that?

The issue here is that you have entered the wrong key for your Vibe CLI instance. To access the large budget, you will need to use the special key you find at https://chat.mistral.ai/code/extensions

Find the that key, then reconfigure Vibe CLI with vibe --setup and enter the special key. You can now use the large budget, and don't worry, it will work with all the models Mistral hosts, including the GLM models :)

Alternatively, you can actually also skip the key, and configure the Vibe CLI through a web dialogue you also trigger as an option in vibe --setup.

I know it's confusing that they have two kinds of API keys, especially when only one of them is labeled "API" 😅

Thank you for the information, it is a lifesaver.

I have already spent several days configuring the CLI, even with the help of Mistral 3.5, which could not help me and gave me incorrect information.
It was only once I could access GLM that everything worked out.

I have rarely seen an interface and a configuration procedure so poorly documented and so difficult for non-specialists.

Bonus info: Although you only have a single key for your large Vibe budget, you can reuse that as many places as you like. You can, for example, use it in Opencode, Hermes,  or Pi to experiment with other agents than Vibe CLI. They just have to speak the standard chat completions interface, which includes most things, but of course not Codex and Claude Code. Otherwise, you are free to use your Mistral-powered GLM models where you like.

Although I do quite like Vibe, it's nice to have the freedom!

I am using it in the Github Copilot desktop app now, caused me some headaches. But works fine now with a litellm proxy inbetween which makes the open-api calls compatble with what Mistral expects.

Is Mistral's API not already supposed to be OpenAI-compatible as /v1/chat/completions? Or are you translating the responses API?

ironically i just asked claude to set up for me to save the headache, yea idk why they make it so obscure and confusing

You used an api key which goes against your api usage

You need to use the vibe cli api key

Also your allowance is half because you have a student subscription otherwise you'd have twice of api usage and vibe usage

their allowance labels are pretty misleading tbh, the cli tool actually hits their api under the hood so it burns the api credits instead of vibe code ones

kinda sucks since the api allowance is tiny compared to vibe code but that's just how they set it up

There’s two separate APIs. If you give the CLI the right one, it pulls from the “Vibe Code” limit. If you give it the Studio API, it pulls from the Studio limit.

And to answer OP’s question, you can use GLM 5.3 on both. [u/internetswimmer](u/internetswimmer) is wrong

So Vibe Code -and the credit that comes with it- can only be used with Mistral models and not GLM?

I’ve been using GLM 5.3 in vibe code CLI on the student plan and it’s only been drawing on the $150 vibe code credit, not the API metered credits. So no. Not sure what is happening with your subscription.
