It comes up every few years. It was a big deal when Curt Schilling did it, it was a big deal when Madison Bumgardner did it.

Teams have experimented with this before (not in the majors) and ultimately I think it’s a cost saving move. I think Sandy and Eury are fucking dogs for saying yes and going out there but I don’t think the front office is reinventing the wheel here.

Ultimately, I think everything is a cost-saving move, for better or worse. Any specific examples of this being done before?

I believe it was Sandy who volunteered the first time and not the team that went to him. Then Eury followed suite because Sandy is his mentor.
