The Spartan war Machine and the cost of Developmental Forging of the Spartan Warrior

https://www.academia.edu/172957451/The_Spartan_Machine_The_Developmental_Forging_of_the_Spartan_Warrior

You may know the general history of Sparta and how it had a state program that took male children from their parents at the age of 7 and returned them, 13 years later, as the most renown warriors in history. This military-driven recruitment and training was purposefully brutal and compulsory and lasted for at least 4 centuries.

This paper analyzes the psychological breakdown of each messed up process and its effects on a young boy's cognition and body as they develop. It also looks at what occurs after passing through the meat grinder of the agoge, and how they come out the other side as men who mostly view that self-sacrifice for the state in battle. is the highest honor, and that's the only value they have to give.
