Not with a bang but with a whimper as they say. That is what I can say about Ewing's run on Venom. Small positive steps for MJ but that's about it really. It really felt like Ewing was considering this book as a 'side-gig sitcom' from his more 'serious' books like Thor. And it felt like that in his handling of it. Of course the ASM status quo did not help either but still. It is definitely a forgettable run.

The ending itself felt like, 'oh we have to setup stuff for the upcoming books fast'. So, MJ got a 'living bracelet' now that has no mind so it is basically a tool. Which we will see in Allen's book after this.

But the biggest issue gonna be Eddie's situation and how '180' he went from his return to this. Going 'yea, MJ, Dylan, the others? Meh, they will be fine. I got you though Venom! Who cares about the rest!' It felt like a really weird switch just to setup the relaunch for Venom. Felt quite out of place and 'back to early status quo' type thing. More so, we don't even hear from Venom so it feels like Eddie might've forcefully got Venom back to him and looking 'crazy'

They keep doing this weird addiction and abusive ex/relationship allegory with Eddie and venom and I’m really sick of it.

They did a similar addiction thing with Flash and it was WAY better. Honestly the biggest mistake they did was getting rid of Agent Venom in exchange for whatever the hell this is

I did like VenoMJ, they made a good pair. But comics are cyclical, so it was a matter of time before Eddie reclaimed the title. The Queen in Black event was pretty bad. So I'm glad that's over.

It's kinda funny reading this back-to-back with ASM #1000. It wasn't perfect, but every writer in that issue has a better voice for Spider-Man than Ewing, including Triple H. His Spider-Man is uniquely bad.
