Film/Television What are some of the most impressive displays of power in the MCU in terms of the skill and experience required to pull it off? I'll go first:

Turning a literal Black Hole being thrown at you by one of the strongest beings in the MCU, having to react within seconds and them turning it into butterflies by Doctor Strange is pretty hard to beat.

The scene in Moon Knight when the entire night sky gets wheeled back thousands of years. Beautiful.

One the most underrated moments in the MCU. Marvel messed up by not having a follow up to a fantastic show.

I would kill for more. Yeah some of it was ropey, but overall a solid 8/10 for me

Hawkeye getting the usb in the socket right way round first time.

488

u/Moohamin12 16h ago

Recent shitpost theory.

Hawkeye has low-level probability manipulation powers that he doesn't realize and act in a dormant way.

That's why he never misses, his side never loses, he alone from his family survived the snap (there is an implication that the snap took out bloodlines in random rather than individuals as entire families were either alive, or dusted like the Wakandan Royal family and Van Dynes) and he managed to get paired with the one Avenger that would sacrifice themselves instead of letting him kill himself.

125

u/TheSpiritedGamer 14h ago

As much as I love the bloodline theory, a counter example would be Sam Wilson; he was snapped, but his sister and nephews were not.

95

u/Ill_Tradition_4104 14h ago

Yeah, but what about Sam‘s mother‘s milkman?
He got dusted as did Sam

Awkward

41

u/Twooshort 9h ago

Nah, I heard his parents have a real good marriage.

8

u/airbornesimian 8h ago

So Sam got dusted because he didn't wanna battle? He was shook?

5

u/wooshoofoo 7h ago

Sam don’t wanna battle, he shook cuz there ain’t no such thing as

1

u/LucysLubeJob 6h ago

halfway crooks!

11

u/Scazzz 14h ago

They were obviously adopted… /s

5

u/badrecipe33 13h ago

Are you insinuating Sam was adopted?

4

u/Flaxmoore 8h ago

And Monica Rambeau. She was, her mother was not.

16

u/drecarnoir 11h ago

So is he a mutant like domino or something?

10

u/Moohamin12 11h ago

Maybe.

But perhaps its a passive trade that just kicks in whenever needed like Spider-Sense. There is a mutant that is called Unbeaten or something that just cannot lose in anything she does. I suppose something like that.

4

u/DarthZacian 2h ago

Isca the Unbeaten. Her mutant power is that she cannot lose, not necessarily that she always wins or gets her desired outcome, just that she cant lose. She once was fighting a war and when it became clear that even though she never lost a battle, her side wouldn't win, her powers forced her to defect to the winning side.

1

u/literallywhateverok2 2h ago

Yo my mind is being straight blown reading this. I’m getting goosebumps at how well this theory works!

71

u/Useful-Perspective 17h ago

This is truly the best indicator that the film was fictional.

2

u/Individual-Pop-385 10h ago

Which film was this scene?

46

u/portapotty2 18h ago

that's how you truly know he has eyes like a hawk the way he can immediately see which way is the correct way to insert the USB from far away

7

u/Bunny_Fluff 16h ago

Magically enchanted arrow by Loki? Hawkeye would have been part of the team prepared to go on the helicarrier so he would have known about the port ahead of time. Loki is as powerful of a sorcerer as Strange so he could have enchanted the arrow to hit home since the entire plan relied on that act.

40

u/denvercasey 17h ago

I watched that scene the other night and just thought “ok so he hit the usb with a spinning arrow on one try?” Then the side things pop out of the arrow and I wonder how the fuck he has an arrow which has a usb AND the two side things at just the same shape and spacing to hit the other plugs, and shooting it at arrow speed didn’t damage it at all, and it has a time delay to mechanically insert itself?

This wasn’t in the nanotech era either. I think it was cool until you actually thought about it.

60

u/ZealousidealDrive368 16h ago

He’s an arrow guy. It’s a fantastical universe. You’re not supposed to “actually” think about it?

8

u/denvercasey 15h ago

I didn’t at the time. I thought it was cool when avengers came out. But Friday night while the show played I was being more critical about the advanced tech on a one time use arrow that perfectly aligned to not one but three ports on a flying aircraft carrier which had software to automatically run and shut down all the engines simultaneously.

But all of this plays off of being able to do something with an arrow which most humans cannot do with their hands up close with less than three attempts - put the usb in the right way but it rejects you, you flip it over and it’s even more wrong, so you flip it back and it works this time for unknown reasons.

7

u/Bad_Droid 13h ago

I had an issue with this the first time I saw it in the cinema. But, I actually had no issue with it on my most recent rewatch.

The Hawkeye TV show had Clint making his own trick arrows, and he was very handy with them. So it’s clear he just made it specifically for the job.

2

u/This_is_opinion 8h ago

lol do you think there's some phenomena that is preventing random people from being able to input a usb? like really? or u just pretending for reddit?

Strange has kind Been nerfed by the MCU

His musical fight In MOM was great as well

285

u/SuperMonkeyJoe 20h ago

Classic comic Strange is obscene, every single team-up and solo run he has been in has been a constant cycle of either sidelining, or nerfing and re-powering him.

188

u/PurveyorOfKnowledge0 19h ago

Strange has always been a rollercoaster of power scaling. In one scene, he can't stop an amateur wizard, and in another, he's battling what's basically Dormammu on steroids.

65

u/2w0be 19h ago

This was his solo movie and THEY DIDN'T, let him shine

57

u/Moohamin12 16h ago

MOM was the movie that could have cemented him as the new anchor for the MCU after Tony, but they kind of ruined it.

Didn't help that he was also nerfed in NWH. He is still fine, but not the lynchpin Iron Man ended up being. And he doesn't have a Cap to play off.

19

u/thundercockjk2 16h ago

It almost feels like Cumberbatch didn't want to, Strange was featured heavily in the beginning of the multiverse saga then disappeared. Was his movie named to be on the must watch list before doomsday? I feel like it was left off the list. I could be wrong, though.

12

u/KnowNoDada 14h ago

It wouldn’t make sense to leave it off considering all the incursion exposition we got.

8

u/irishgoblin 12h ago

MoM is on it, with NWH. From what i remember, the only oddities about the list people were talking about were the omissions of Days of Futures Past and The Marvels.

1

u/deemoorah 3h ago

How is that his fault? Mind you he's on record said he's the only one who cares about Strange on set. It's Marvel Studios that doesn't want him to actually looks powerful

1

u/ModerNew 12h ago

> And he doesn't have a Cap to play off.

I feel like it's one of the important reasons why they didn't. He plays nice in his own niche with Wong or Wanda, but it's hard to build team dynamics off of him, like they can do, i.e. with Bucky and Sam.

Also again, the mess of a power scaling he is definitely doesn't help.

1

u/Great_Abaddon 7h ago

His solo film bugged the HELL out of me. He casts... what, like 3 spells on repeat throughout the entirety of the film? Thor: Ragnarok and Endgame did him so much better though.

15

u/Alternative-Gas-3892 19h ago

What you mean by Dormammu on steroids?

79

u/The_Great_Name 19h ago

Well I think he ment like its a Dormammu but on steroids.

8

u/EmeraldWitch104 19h ago

Shut up and take my upvote.

1

u/EaglerCore 4h ago

I read this in Luis's voice lmao

4

u/PurveyorOfKnowledge0 8h ago

Specifically, Shuma-Gorath, also known as the Interdimensional God of Gods.

30

u/gmsteel 17h ago

I may be in the minority but I really didn't like the musical fight since it wasn't a musical fight. It was a "throw glowing, musical notation themed, throwing stars at each other". It's likely a CGI cost limitation but magic battles being simplified to the same glowing blasts or beams really does make magical combat dull. Infinity war and order of the phoenix did it a bit better with the counter spells being as much a focus as the first spell, offense and defence trying to outflank each other.

13

u/SaltyBallsnacks 16h ago

It's like the Scott Pilgrim scene where they are taking turns hurling rifts at each other, but instead of acting like the music itself is imparting the damage they acted as if it was hurling literal objects at them. Bizarre choice for sure.

3

u/cheerfulwish 15h ago

I also share this feeling, the fight was not that interesting to me, we didn’t see a true range of cool magic like I would have expected from two sorcerers at that power level.

9

u/AvailableTip5758 14h ago

His strength is decided by the budget imo. The fight between Kaecilius and the Ancient One was supposed to be longer but it was too expensive.

3

u/Individual-Pop-385 9h ago edited 45m ago

Strange is constantly being nerfed to clown him.

After the fight in Titan he's nerfed.

He's literally just holding back water in Endgame. He's a clown vs Spidey... Wanda always is above him no matter the guy being a literal genius and being more trained than Wanda. But everyone is a clown to Wanda in that movie. I don't know if we are going to even see a proper Dr. Strange now that DOOM has to stomp everyone. But the same shit has been happening to Thor and Hulk.

2

u/No-Spoilers 6h ago edited 6h ago

He did make a portal from titan back to earth which is kinda crazy for mcu strange. He could basically just go anywhere and anytime too.

Lowkey would probably be able to go visit the TVA and Kang if he wanted to

427

u/papayabush 20h ago

Much lower scale than your example but Id say Spiderman in Civil War is a decent example. It’s the first time we see him and I don’t think anyone was expecting him to be as strong as he is. Mf takes down Falcon and Buckey in a 1v2 with little issue and then holds his own against Cap for a while too.

283

u/anxious_tfem 19h ago

The shock on bucky’s face when the arm that stop a speeding car in it’s tracks is caught by a 15 year old will never not make me laugh

147

u/Kathrynlena 15h ago

All while the 15 year old is complimenting his cool metal arm and trying to chat with him. Mid melee. Civil war Spider-Man is so adorable, so excited to be there and meet everyone, including his “enemies,” while also absolutely holding his own in the fight.

63

u/Infinite-Relation988 15h ago

Back when Peter was happy 😭

13

u/pidgeottOP 13h ago

Peter is pretty happy again

17

u/mtburr1989 13h ago

We watched different movies.

2

u/pidgeottOP 13h ago

Are you sure you've seen the latest Spider-Man?

Things aren't so bad for him by the end

19

u/SavageNorth 12h ago

It's a Brand New Day after all

7

u/Kathrynlena 11h ago

Things are looking up for him but are definitely still not great.

3

u/pidgeottOP 11h ago

No longer being hunted by JJJ, working in tandem with the authorities, revered by his city, recognizing the shitters in time, has his best friends back in his life. Oh, and he's as powerful as he's ever been

Doesn't seem so bad to me

75

u/Eternal_Reward 18h ago

Also, Bucky trying to punch the hell out of a 15 year old with a arm that can stop a speeding car.

21

u/althawk8357 16h ago

I'd vote him into Congress!

14

u/BallsDeepinYourMammi 13h ago

“You have a metal arm?! That is awesome dude!”

25

u/Discount_Lex_Luthor 16h ago

Pound for Pound he could take Cap. Cap specifically outwits him.

9

u/vashoom 8h ago

Yeah BND Spider-Man would wipe the floor with Cap at any point on his career. CW Spidey was still a child who barely even understood his own power and literally no fight experience. The fact he did as well as he did in the airport shows how far above super soldier he is.

6

u/-GoodNewsEveryone 7h ago

Super soldiers strength can be measured in the hundreds of pounds. Spider-Man's is measured in the tonnage. He's a whole different class than them. You'll never find bucky picking up a city bus, stopping a train or holding a commercial ferry together.

1

u/drumstix42 2h ago

When Spiderman stops the melee swing by Cull Obsidian early on in Endgame (the giant hammer thing) and makes it look super low effort is excellent.

161

u/jumbalayajenkins 20h ago

By far the most creative fight scene they’ve had in a long time

69

u/da316 19h ago

Needs to be the standard I think. CGI figures punching each other is so boring, they need to get creative with the fights like this

32

u/jumbalayajenkins 19h ago

100%. It’s been like 8 years since then too. I guess I’d give them Shang Chi too now that I think about it but that’s definitely it

7

u/da316 19h ago

8 years?! Yeh we’re overdue some good action. Bashing action figure together for 20 minutes ain’t it.

6

u/jumbalayajenkins 19h ago

I’d definitely give it to them for either of the spider-men or maybe one of the Eternals fights but I still don’t think those are on this level. I don’t mind them just making cool characters fight each other for shits and giggles if they’re actually creative about it. IMO because of that specifically I was really not that happy with the Hulk vs Spider-Man fight in Brand New Day. Felt very subdued and bland for two extremely kinetic characters

5

u/da316 17h ago

Oh yeh can’t forget Spider-Man, that’s always solid. I haven’t seen the new one yet though so can’t speak on that.

1

u/SavageNorth 12h ago

Just walked out of the new one, it has some great fights

But Spideys powers always lend themselves to that, it's not like he's going around blasting energy bursts at people

6

u/asds89 16h ago

Shang Chi was great up till the final CGI battle. I honestly enjoyed the martial arts aspects of the fights, and even the 10 rings weren’t too bad on the CGI, but the ending was such a shame.

3

u/DonShino 13h ago

Its not the punching for me, its the bloody beam of light attack. Wanda being so threatening and then basically just blasting with red beams was disappointing...

3

u/da316 12h ago

God yeh, especially with the magic guys. Those should be the more creative fights.

3

u/jumbalayajenkins 6h ago

No 100% that’s what bothers me about it. Almost everybody who actually has powers outside of “strong/fast guy” just have different coloured energy blasts

1

u/-GoodNewsEveryone 6h ago

Wanda was scary because they stuck her in a folded up mirror dimension and she started killing people with puddles and decorative plates which should not be possible. Nothing is safe.

2

u/DonShino 5h ago

That shit was awesome.

Its the initial assault on Kamar-Taj and the stuff from Avengers thats annoying. Scartlett witch just blasts energy beams at people?!

1

u/Warslvt 4h ago

CGI figures punching each other is so boring

Hulk v Hulkbuster would like words.

118

u/Lord_of_the_beach 20h ago

This is what irks me about the Endgame fight the most. Strange stood toe to toe with Thanos (with 4/6 stones) and didn’t do anything to beat him in Endgame when he had ZERO stones. Strange should’ve wiped the floor with Thanos but instead he was taking care of the bloody lake

82

u/Tan-Man-Dhan 19h ago

They sidelined him from the main battle by making him fix that waterfall thing

53

u/lookstep 19h ago

On the other hand, he was treated like the big bad of the entire "WHAT IF?" storyline, and he consistently ran rings around everyone in terms of power level and tactics. My favourite villain so far

5

u/Flaxmoore 8h ago

And in some reality he's still swapping stones with Ultimate Ultron.

11

u/weak-pee-pee 18h ago

Strange could only keep up in IW because he had seen the future and knew what all Thanos was gonna do. We know he got wiped by maw/thanos's right hand man with 0 effort. So Thanos would have smoked him in endgame anyway.

20

u/Better-Prompt890 18h ago

Huh if he knowing the future allows him to keep up with Thanos with 4 stones, in endgame he also knew the future. So he should be even more advantaged cos Thano has zero stones

13

u/Electronic-Koala2088 16h ago

I think from the logic of IW to Endgame, Strange knowing the future and the one possible outcome requires that he act accordingly. In this case acting according to the script which had the big 3 fighting Thor, if ya get what I mean. Obviously I think it's silly since he can could easily kill all the henchmen and pawns to make things easier.

7

u/DAHFreedom 16h ago

I like the idea of Strange reading the Endgame script like Men In Tights. “I get another shot!”

3

u/JoelStrega 14h ago

This is the genius an annoying thing about the 14 million 605 line. Any criticism of Strange or how the story went through can be swept by "any other way and they'll lose"

3

u/Jams1342 12h ago

Yeah it’s kind of an easy cop out by the writers. The same people who nerfed Strange also wrote the 14 million thing. And I find it hard to believe that over 5 years there are only 14 million possibilities and that they only win one. There’s closer to infinite possibilities and they should be able to win a few possibilities that deviate slightly from the one that happened. Or don’t have the gimic at all and just have them lose and then win, seems cooler

2

u/Better-Prompt890 11h ago

Yeah you can see while Thanos with 4 stones on Titan is probably the strongest foe they have met he's not at the level of power that resistance is truly pointless.

see Thor almost kill him even wth a full IG. Or that on Titan a coordinated team up almost beat him. Or Dr strange alone without time stone stalemated him for a time.

There surely were many many possibilities to win.

1

u/BleiddWhitefalcon 5h ago

I'm pretty sure that the 14 million thing was Strange just jumping on the first one he saw that might have also avoided Tiamat hatching like... right afterwards

2

u/FoggyInc 12h ago

Well he knew the avengers had it in that future if he kept the lake at bay ig

1

u/Better-Prompt890 12h ago

Ok so you saying he rather Iron-man die ? OK.

2

u/Cucario_19 11h ago

Si el intervenía tal vez las cosas salían mal y, en lugar de iron man, moría medio universo de nuevo (incluído iron man).

2

u/Renegadeknight3 10h ago

Actually that thanos in endgame was planning to kill everybody

1

u/Cucario_19 9h ago

Tienes razón, ya recorde. Quería matar a todos y crear un universo para someterlo. Peor aún.

6

u/rhizomaticminds 18h ago

Knowing the future doesn't suddenly grant you the reflexes to counter four infinity stones

5

u/drew8311 14h ago

It's a movie, they had to add some suspense or risk of heroes losing. Comics are famous for uneven battles where the underdog wins or the fight goes on way too long when one side is OP. Also Thanos had an army so that spread the heroes out so it couldn't be 50v1

3

u/Hefty_Direction5189 15h ago

That was my issue with the Endgame fight, way too many people who by all rights and demonstrated powers should have been able to take out stoneless Thanos, especially in a group, but somehow just couldn’t because they hadn’t given enough people their fight Thanos moment yet.

1

u/Hairy_Talk_4232 15h ago

What lake?

0

u/onehedgeman 13h ago

Tony had self flying armor parts in Iron Man 3 and didn’t think of putting this tech in the gauntlet? Even better, the gauntlet is supposedly nanotech and can self adjust to basically whatever is needed, maybe having a locator on it, a homing rocket, but no they made the girls only chase game scene for shits and giggles.

Also, they could have had the gauntlet split into 6 different container objects, why not split and give the time stone to strange? The power stone to Quill? Whatever…

u/Groundbreaking_Date2 20h ago edited 19h ago

Big trio vs Thanos was creative too in terms of use of weapons. If you really think about it, The build up for that fight scene is combination of multiple events in past movies.

  1. Tonys suit was upgraded multiple times. there is another list what problems he faced and how he overcome them all. With well advanced suit he was able to face thonos and used thors thunder to override his capacity.
  2. In Thor 1, Odin puts spell on hammer so only worthy will be able to lift it. In age of ultron they teased cap can lift it but we got distracted by vision holding the hammer instead of him. Hammer got destroyed in thor 3. But We got hammer back in endgame. In avengers 3 we got axe and thor was able to summon two weapons to kill him properly that time.
  3. Caps shield was given back to him by tony after civil war. It was already teased in age of ultron how he slightly lift his hammer. It was also demonstrated what happens when two weapons collide as Shown in 1st and 2nd avengers. So when cap single handedly faced thanos everyone lost their mind for sure if they knew WHY it happned.

Edit: added those events.

22

u/looopious 18h ago

He didn’t just collect the stones to snap. He used them individually when no other character did that other than Strange using it to beat Dormamu.

He didn’t even need to trick the Guardians with the reality stone but he did anyways.

Not exactly the type of feat you’re looking for but the fact that a CALM merged hulk CASUALLY threw a large rock into orbit. Now if only we could see what happens when he is angry and trying would be awesome.

17

u/HereIGoAgain_1x10 16h ago

Hulk snapped everyone back to life from the blip and is never talked about being a big deal because it was a team effort to get the stones so it feels like a team effort after that but that's the most powerful thing anyone else has done besides Thanos' original snap.

For me it's watching Loki empower the Multiverse

10

This. You feel the weight and strain and cost of it

10

The cost especially. He got everything he said he ever wanted and it cost him everything. I loved the Loki show so much

Antman card trick

45

u/Gonzo_Ghost_ 16h ago

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Wanda scaring Thanos so much in their 1v1 that his literal only option to not die is to call a missile strike. Wanda is badass

13

u/Renegadeknight3 10h ago

Same with thanos in endgame realizing captain marvel outclassed him, so he quickly dropped the power stone out of the gauntlet, caught it, and used it to hyper punch her off

24

u/dontlookformehere 14h ago

The display of hubris in the MCU is maddening. Had she not spent the time to pluck each piece of his armor one by one she could have literally split him into atoms and been done. She gave him plenty of time to come up with a solution to save himself though

2

u/EaglerCore 4h ago

She wanted thanos to feel pain. She obviously could have gone the "instant noodles" route like she did to reed in MoM, but she wanted thanos to have a slow, painful death.

Now why she could do all that but not stop thanos from talking is beyond me.

Starlord flying around in a large open air battlefield inside ego in the climax of guardians two. Bro is out here in no ship with two space pistols fighting ships at all angles, one shot hits him and it’s over.

Tbh starlord tends to be on the weaker side compared to literally everyone so his pure skill getting him as far as he’s got is really fucking impressive

10

u/Ira-jay 12h ago

This is more of a pure skill thing not really power

4

u/PineappleOwn5325 11h ago

Isn't he pretty much a god in that movie?

So basically he was never at risk of anything at that point in time

3

u/Ira-jay 11h ago

???? Did you watch the movie? Or any of them. He doesn’t have powers save for three instances and what I mentioned is not one of them. He almost died like like 4 times in the first and we’ve seen him bleed and get knocked out by like, regular people. He’s just a dude for 99.9999% of his life

2

u/Ambitious_Hand_2861 4h ago

Did you watch Guardians of the Galaxy 2? There's a whole scene where Ego tells Peter he's a god, small "g", and can never die. Ego: No, Peter... death will remain a stranger to both of us, as long as the light burns within the planet. Peter Quill: I'm immortal? Ego: Mmm-hmm. Peter Quill: Really? Ego: Yes! As long as the light exists.

0

u/Ira-jay 4h ago

He wasn’t gonna get old. Do you really fucking think the stone wasn’t gonna kill him? Did you not see when he was literally dying in space in guardians 1? Peter isn’t an avatar like ego, he is his body, ego was the planet so he can get shot up and be fine but Peter can’t. He was never gonna die of old age. Put your thinking cap on

1

u/Ambitious_Hand_2861 3h ago

Ego wasn't a planet. Ego was the brain at the center and the planet around him was an extension, but not like an arm or a leg. Destroy the entire planet except the core and you still have Ego, destroy the core leaving the planet untouched and you have no Ego. Now that we have established that. Peter was was immortal due to his connection to power that gave birth to Ego. Peter could have floated frozen in the endless void of space for a thousand years and as soon as he thawed out he'd be right as rain. Sure he's limited by the limitations of his human vessel until such time as he could learn to control the power better and prevent himself from freezing or repair any other damage he may have taken. In Vol 1 he didn't even know he had power so controlling anything is out of the question. However, in order to create a sense stakes and the possibility of danger the audience (that's you dummy and everyone else who watched it) has to believe that Peter is in danger. He's a main character so we don't have to believe he's going to die but the danger and how he escapes it is part of the excitement, it's why we consume the entertainment media of action movies. I can't believe I have to explain this to you. Is it your age that's single digits or just your IQ.

Peter owning strange in a 1v1 in nwh.

Dormammu, I come to bargain.

That's not a black hole. It's some kind of black sphere. That's where the similarities end.

11

u/ajiveturkey 16h ago

If we weren't ignoring science (not that MCU adheres to science as we know it) a black hole of that diameter would have killed everyone instantly

4

u/TheAsterism_ 16h ago

wich makes me think, is there really not a way to just nuke the whole battlefield? strange needs time to conjure spells, right?

9

u/account312 15h ago

A black hole that size would definitely nuke the whole battlefield. And every other field. And the rest of the planet.

4

u/Chaotic_Lemming 12h ago

Thanos did... but movies aren't going to allow that to work for a villain the way it should.

He ripped giant chunks from a moon and dropped them on the battlefield. The energy from those impacts would have destroyed that entire area and released enough energy from impact to have turn the good guys into pink mist that was immediately vaporized by the heat released. Instead they all just get tossed around some.

The moon was closer to Titan than ours is to us, but it was still high enough to be above the Roche limit and also near the horizon, at least a few thousand miles away. The big chunk landed in only a couple seconds, so it was travelling at ~1 thousand miles a second. So can't even have the excuse that it wasn't traveling as fast as a "natural" impact. It was faster. The Chixulub meteor (of Dino killing fame) is estimated to have impacted around 40,000 mph, which is only 2/3d's that speed.

1

u/TheAsterism_ 12h ago

i think he teleported them using the space stone to avoid pesky extinction level events on his home planet

3

u/Chaotic_Lemming 12h ago

I had rewatched the scene just before posting to make sure I wasn't misremembering. He yanked them off the moon, no teleportation shown.

Yeah, the good guys had to live because of plot and the profit from more movies. But its definitely an example of a fight where someone just goes "fuck it, nuking this whole area to kill 'em all now".

1

u/Daddysu 11h ago

Well you see, since the gravity was all over the place that was slowing down any blast wave propagation due to the decrease in Connecticut energy being released in a similar fashion that the Pym particles affect physics because a wizard did it and magic is science we just don't understand, so... Reed Richards!!

What were we talkin'bout?

1

u/progressingtime 4h ago

Well, you're either a liar or an idiot who's blind, because you clearly see him using the space stone to teleport them/bring them closer to the surface.

1

u/VibraniumRhino 10h ago

Nah he uses the the space stone to pull them out of orbit.

•

u/Rhiis 33m ago

Perhaps Titan's messed up gravity field caused the moon hits to lose velocity somehow.

4

u/mell0_jell0 12h ago

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is this scene from? I'm sure I've seen whatever movie it's in but I just can't place it

6

u/Xaeris813 12h ago

It's Infinity War when they are fighting Thanos on Titan.

3

u/mell0_jell0 12h ago

Oh sweet, thank you!

2

u/Otherwise-Tomato-788 5h ago

I also do not recall this at all.

6

u/Working_Ad9155 15h ago

Yeah, its probably just a strong vacuum, it being that color is probably due to the space stone.

4

u/DarkLordKohan 15h ago

Its probably a black hole in the sense its a gravity well, but not a true black hole. We see in other movies they have black hole grenades or powers.

4

u/grimsaur 12h ago

It might be a D&D reference to the Sphere of Annihilation.

7

1

u/malisa_goorn 10h ago

Gary Gygax secretly ghostwriting the MCU would explain a lot

8

u/palagi_valea 19h ago

Strange saw how this fight played out. But the skills involved going toe to toe with multiple infinity stones is massive.

2

u/Tells-Tragedies 15h ago

Yeah, I bet a few dozen of the 14,000,605 ended with Strange getting black-holed before he figured out an effective counter, and a few more before he decided that the counter had to harmlessly dissipate it so it didn't destroy the area around and harm his teammates.

Hawkeye has balls of steel. “We’re fighting an army of robots and I have a bow and arrow.” But then he delays vision long enough to convince Wanda to leave with him. Hawkeye is just a man, but he was like “robot made of vibranium with an infinity stone brain? I can take him.” Balls. Of. Steel.

3

u/Epistemic_Outlaw 15h ago

Hawkeye taking out Wanda with an electric arrow has to be top 5

3

u/waldocalrissian 15h ago

In the beginning of Winter Soldier when Cap puts his shield away to 1v1 the bad guy and beats him using his own fighting style against him.

You could argue it was never a fair fight because of the super soldier serum, but I still think it fits the question because Cap was using skill and experience.

2

u/Flaxmoore 8h ago

In the books, Batroc is Olympic-level, peak human. Yeah, he was about the best that a human could be.

u/UserXtheUnknown 17h ago edited 17h ago

Just to point out this wasn't created by Thanos, but by one of the Infinity Stones (probably Power or Space), because Thanos, by himself, has no ranged attack in MCU.
Remembering that Danvers, who were able to resist a headbutt from Thanos, was thrown away like a ragdoll by Thanos using the Power Stone, what Strange does here is even more impressive. Indeed, in the following scene, Thanos looks the 'butterflies' with a 'what the fuck...' expression.

2

u/BeenDragonn 17h ago

So did Thanos create a black hole or did he somehow teleport one from space to his location?

Dark Strange vs Infinity Ultron

3

u/Horny_or_Confused 14h ago

Not Cosmic level power, but Ayo disarming Bucky was peak fighting skill and training, to render him powerless with the minimum level of damage to either combatant.

She utterly outclassed him.

4

u/Administrative_Air_0 17h ago

Thor took the focused energy of a star, yet struggled against a big purple ball-chinian. He would have to have been invincible to have handled the star. The kinetic, heat, and radiation energies would be greater than getting hit with a planet. Yet, punches hurt? His sister could hurt him? It's all plot. No logic. No consistency. Reason does not apply.

2

u/Slightly_Perverse 13h ago

Fair, but also the guy who punched him and his sister could probably also have done the star feat.

1

u/Administrative_Air_0 4h ago

Thor took the assault of the star. Erstwhile, he can't punch with that same force and neither can Thanos. So, again, he should be invincible to all attacks thrown at him, and yet he easily takes damage. Heck, when Thanos was pressing down Stormbringer into Thor's chest, your should've have easily been able to fling him into the sky. Strength doesn't equal weight. If they're that strong, a target lacking powers of flight would be sent flying into the air with one punch. Comics and movies present "strength" as somehow connected to inertia/mass/weight. Physics has no place in these worlds. My point isn't to attack the reasoning of the stories presented. It's to make it clear that reason doesn't apply and to simply enjoy the stories as presented.

1

u/Slightly_Perverse 4h ago

I mean, Thor was absolutely manhandled by the Hulk, who is comparatively around the same physical strength as baseline Thanos (w/out stones) until he gets enraged.

There isn't a world where Thanos wouldn't also physically manhandle Thor in the same manner.

You're not wrong that enduring a force and delivering that force are two separate things, but I imagine that when you are dealing w/ individuals who are literally gods in their strength, then getting punched by a god will probably hurt around the same level as getting dosed w/ a neutron star lol.

The "hard to believe" thing would be if you had been talking about Steve withstanding Thanos and not getting splattered like a paintball immediately, which is where your "It ain't that kinda movie kid" logic comes into play

Loki using his powers to revive the entire multiverse.

u/Ghosttwo 3h ago edited 3h ago

Pretty much anything done by the High Evolutionary. He crashes out a few times in the end, but the actual amount of 'skill and experience' it takes to populate a planet of your own, logistics and all, is through the roof. Not even Ego could make people.

They all got blown up too, making it one of the biggest mass deaths in the MCU, and the guardians were almost entirely to blame. Maybe I missed an evacuation scene, but it looked like a pretty apocalyptic trolley problem to me. And yeah, maybe they weren't aware of the risks, but I suspect there were more subtle ways to proceed. Oddly enough, critics seemed to ignore the issue entirely.
