Help! Long layover recommendation
Coming from Los Angeles into Frankfurt next week with a 7 hour layover before my final destination.
Do you think that’s enough time to take a quick trip to Mainz? If so, is physical currency needed?

I’d plan an hour to get out the airport. An hour to get in and an hour each way to Mainz. So, no. Not really unfortunatelyÂ

Even if you had the time, why not just go to Frankfurt. Its a bit closer to the airport and theres a lil more to see there.

Yes that is another option. I had seen another post mentioning Mainz is prettier and almost same distance.

I like Mainz, id like to keep living here basically forever, but Frankfurt is a better Tourist destination for sure.

Its easily possible, 20-30 mins each side travel by S bahn would do. And you can commute easily within city as well. But have to take a day pass

Would expect an hour to get out of the airport. Customs, bags, vehicle pickup or Uber. Abouut 30 minute commute to Mainz, Expect another hour so to get back. Cash is good for emergency

Do you have a visa so you can visit? Is your final destination within the shengan area?
I'd say a short trip is doable, but it will be stressfull, if you have to go through non-EU citizen immigration.
S-Bahn takes about 20-30 minutes, I'd recommend getting off at "Römisches Theater" instead of "Hauptbahnhof".
Have some buffer time when returning to the airport.
You do not need physical currency. You can buy your train ticket online or at the airport. Most shops take credit or debit cards. Only if you come on a saturday and want to visit the Marktfrühstück, you'll need cash.
Of course you'll not see a whole lot in the short time but if you are happy to stroll around town, maybe along the river and have a nice meal, that's absolutely doable.

Easy possible, the old town is quite close by and in the Center city it’s no problem to pay cashless unless und want to get a Kebab.

It's 20min by car. Grab a small rental, have a bite to eat, sit in a cafe and watch the scenery. Pay with credit card. Nothing to worry about. Check traffic in Google maps at the time you'd do that from home, to see if you'd hit a rush hour. Even if you waste an hour for one way, it's still more than enough time.
