🇿🇦 Calling all South African Magic: The Gathering players!

[u/ColateralDamag7]

If you play Magic in South Africa, we’d love to have you join us.

We’ve created r/MTG_SouthAfrica, a dedicated community for South African Magic players, collectors, traders, judges, tournament organisers, LGS regulars and complete beginners.

One of the biggest challenges with Magic locally is that our community is spread across dozens of different Facebook groups, WhatsApp chats, Discord servers, stores and local playgroups.
There are players all over the country, but it can sometimes be surprisingly difficult to actually find each other.
We’re hoping to change that.

What we want to build 🇿🇦
A central place where South Africans can:
🎴 Talk Magic
🧙 Find Commander pods and other players nearby
🏪 Discover local game stores
🏆 Share tournaments and events
🤝 Buy, sell and trade cards
🃏 Share decks, pulls and collections
📚 Help new players learn the game
⚔️ Discuss Commander, Standard, Modern, Pioneer, Pauper and more
📍 Connect with players from other towns and provinces
🔥 Help grow Magic in South Africa again
Whether you play competitively every weekend or own one Commander precon that comes out twice a year, you’re welcome.

Whether you’re from Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, Polokwane, Mbombela, East London, Kimberley or a tiny town with four people playing Commander around someone’s kitchen table, we want you there.

We need your help
A community like this only works if South African players actually know it exists.

So if you’re willing, please:
Join: r/MTG_SouthAfrica
Introduce yourself.
Post about your local MTG community.
And most importantly, share this with any South African Magic players you know.

Send it to your Commander pod.
Drop it in your local MTG WhatsApp group.
Share it with your LGS community.
Tell the person who keeps insisting their deck is “casual” while producing a turn-three infinite combo.
😅

We’d love to eventually create a proper picture of what Magic looks like across South Africa, where people are playing, which communities are active, what events are happening and where new players can get involved.

There are already people doing incredible work keeping Magic alive locally.

We just want to help all of us find each other.
Let’s put the Gathering back into Magic. 🇿🇦
