Hi everyone,
I'm a 23-year-old Italian who has completed a Bachelor's degree in Finance. I'm considering moving to the Lucerne area for the MSc in Real Estate at HSLU and I'd like to hear from people who actually live or study in the area.
My current situation:
23 years old, Italian/EU citizen
Bachelor's degree in International Business/Finance
Currently doing an internship at a fintech unicorn in Milan.
Internship ends around December
C1 English and C1 Spanish
Currently learning German and planning to reach B2 during the master's
I could provide around €10–15k to help with the master's/move.
The HSLU MSc Real Estate interests me because I'm interested in real estate investment, asset management, finance and development, rather than purely academic/quantitative finance.
My idea would be to study while working part-time, ideally in something related to finance or real estate. I'm not expecting to immediately get a great real-estate job, I'd mainly like to earn some money and build Swiss work experience, then move toward better roles later.
I'd really appreciate some local advice:
How realistic is it to find a part-time/working-student job around Lucerne/Zug without speaking German fluently at first?
Is English enough for some finance/real-estate jobs, or is German basically essential?
How much should I realistically budget per month for living around Lucerne if I live frugally?
Is €10–15k enough to get started if I'm also working part-time?
Is it realistic to find a WG/room for a reasonable price, or is accommodation extremely difficult?
How is HSLU's MSc Real Estate perceived by employers in Switzerland?
Would my existing fintech/operations experience be useful when applying for student jobs in finance/real estate?
Would you recommend living in Lucerne, Rotkreuz, or somewhere else nearby while studying?
I'm particularly interested in hearing from international students or young professionals who moved to the area.
Thanks!
