Nothing screams rugged, independent free-market capitalism quite like begging the government for a multibillion-dollar bailout because your own preferred trade policies vaporized your customer base.

You voted to burn down the global grain market and are now stunned to discover you actually have to live inside the ashes. 
Broad tariff regimes inevitably trigger direct retaliatory duties on domestic agricultural exports, converting thriving family operations into federally dependent welfare cases overnight. Handing out billions in taxpayer-funded stopgap relief does not recover structural export market share; it simply forces the public to subsidize avoidable self-inflicted losses while multi-generational farms fold under the debt.

That’s because these people still go to their evangelical churches on Sunday, and they’re told Trump was anointed by god, and this is all part of the plan, sacrifice included.

If people think their god is behind something, it creates a lot of mental and emotional bandwidth for absolute bullshit.

That rarely happens. There is a special type of bankruptcy for farmers - Chapter 12. In Chapter 12, the farm debt will be restructured and the banks and creditors will take a massive loss but the farmer will keep the land and assets.
