It turns out you cannot eat pure political rhetoric when the trade war bill comes due.

Nothing screams rugged, independent free-market capitalism quite like begging the government for a multibillion-dollar bailout because your own preferred trade policies vaporized your customer base.

You voted to burn down the global grain market and are now stunned to discover you actually have to live inside the ashes.
Broad tariff regimes inevitably trigger direct retaliatory duties on domestic agricultural exports, converting thriving family operations into federally dependent welfare cases overnight. Handing out billions in taxpayer-funded stopgap relief does not recover structural export market share; it simply forces the public to subsidize avoidable self-inflicted losses while multi-generational farms fold under the debt.

Farmers have been getting bail outs for decades. They are just too stupid to realize that subsidy is just welfare by another name. Sucks to lose the family farm but have the day you voted for.

And here's the worst part, the subsidy seems to benefit foreign buyers.

Essentially, American taxpayers subsidize farm losses and insure against crop failure. A lot of those farmers, in turn, grow export crops. Foreign buyers enjoy cheaper crop imports, while our own grocery prices remain high.

The amount of farm subsidies that goes towards crops that aren't eaten by American's is criminal..or at least it should be... Cash croppers that just export should go under or run on their own steam. America would be better off if that land was for US food (real food not just corn syrup) or returned to wild lands if we're paying for it.
