It turns out you cannot eat pure political rhetoric when the trade war bill comes due.

Nothing screams rugged, independent free-market capitalism quite like begging the government for a multibillion-dollar bailout because your own preferred trade policies vaporized your customer base.

You voted to burn down the global grain market and are now stunned to discover you actually have to live inside the ashes.
Broad tariff regimes inevitably trigger direct retaliatory duties on domestic agricultural exports, converting thriving family operations into federally dependent welfare cases overnight. Handing out billions in taxpayer-funded stopgap relief does not recover structural export market share; it simply forces the public to subsidize avoidable self-inflicted losses while multi-generational farms fold under the debt.

Genuinely think polite society needs to be less polite and be direct with these types of folks about just how dumb they've been.

Might not be productive (they are brainwashed) but it would be gratifying. We are all suffering immeasurably because they voted Trump to power a second time.

I’m sure that would feel good, but if the goal is to get people who resent you for calling them stupid to vote differently, calling them stupid might be counterproductive.

Because a bunch of y’all raised similar points, I’ll add this: Think of it like a loved one in a bad relationship. Calling her stupid won’t make her leave him. All you can really do is be someone she trusts after she figures it out.

calling them stupid might be counterproductive.

Is it in your estimate that trying to be reasonable, factual or talking sense to/with them has worked so far given the current state of things? It's been in practice since 2016.

They’re so conditioned that as soon as they see the information is coming from anyone other than who they’ve been conditioned to listen to, their defenses go up, what little logic they have goes out the window, and zero progress is made.

They simply cannot accept the reality of their situation and refuse to say “I fucked up” on an individual or collective level.

Have you ever had a reasonable conversation with one of these idiots?
Have you ever convinced them of anything?
I grew up around these people. They don’t care about what facts you bring. They care about how THEY feel.

The fuck your feelings crowd means fuck YOUR feelings because their feelings are “moral and good.”

Stop trying to reason with people that already want you dead.

They are NEVER going to vote any differently so the least we can do is ride past their foreclosure signs on our high horses.

That is most definitely not the goal.

If anyone was naïve enough to think that it’s possible to change these folks’ minds, those hopes died in 2024.

I no longer feel shame in taking pleasure in the suffering of people who take pleasure in other people‘s pain. That mostly what MAGA is about after all.

The goal stopped being to convince them in 2024. I’ll still vote for what’s best for them while they vote against it; because I’m not some cold hearted, ignorant sociopath.

But I’ve long since accepted there’s no gently educating and reasoning with people who are motivated purely by personal greed and animus towards out-groups.

These losers happily voted for morally repugnant people to “hurt the people who deserved it” and I’m supposed to feel sorry for them when their plans literally backfired in their face as if a cartoon character stuck a finger in a gun barrel?

I won’t give up on helping the mean, stupid bastards, but I’ll definitely enjoy the schadenfreude as they suffer from the consequences of their actions.
