My Kitten Should I adopt her

Post image

Lil cutie kitty

I found this small kitten today near the place where we keep cattle fodder (bhusa).

The kitten's eyes are fully open, it has very small teeth and claws, and it can walk on its own. It can't run very fast yet, but when I picked it up, it tried really hard to escape. It also meows normally.

I later found out that the kitten's mother was nearby. She eventually took the kitten and moved away.

I really want to adopt this kitten, but I don't want to separate it from its mother too early or do anything that could harm it.

Can someone estimate the kitten's age from the photo and tell me when it would be safe to adopt it?

Also, should I leave the kitten with its mother for now and wait until it's older?

I'm completely new to raising kittens, so any advice would be appreciated.

Please advise me

When they have teeth they can eat wet food. It is safe to adopt. But they do better staying with littermates a few more weeks. But being inside is better than outside

Take them both in and contact a local shelter if you can't provide a long term solution for both, they may be able to take moma once baby is weened. But you may also want to keep them together. Avoid separation if at all possible.

Mother cats have been seen to show their baby's to people and then "abandon" them. It's possible that this mother cat saw you and decided you were a good fit for her baby. I think you should take em in 💜

don't take it from its mother yet. it's too young and probably not weaned yet. do the right thing and take BOTH cats to a shelter and inform them you want to adopt the kitten when it is properly weaned.

No, don't separate them. Mama cat might still be feeding him/her and she also is the one who teaches them how to cover their pee/poop, not to mention all the socialization stuff. You either adopt them both or none of them. Adopting a single kitten is a bad idea. If you do that, he/she will develop single kitten syndrome, which means a sad cat with behavior issues medium/long term

I don't know much about determining the age of kittens, but please capture both mama and the baby. If you can't keep mama, drop her off at a shelter or do a tag and release spay if you can afford it. The shelter will also be able to tell you more about when it's safe to separate them.

If the mother is feral you might want to take her to be fixed but trying to keep a feral cat or kitten is very hard. They do have lots of behavioral problems. You can however keep putting food out and they both might start trusting you. And become your outdoor kitties. But I would definitely catch and have them fixed.
