12 years ago today, greatest baseball game I ever witnessed
Taken 12 years ago before I headed off to the game. Still gives me chills.

My parents left this game early, lol

This was the game that taught us we NEVER leave a game early. Your ass is in that seat (or on your feet in front of it) until the end.

Watching that team for the 2nd half of the season should have been all you needed to know you shouldn't leave early. They were so fun to watch... it felt like they were always going to be able to come back within striking distance.

My wife went to sleep before it went into extra innings. She absolutely regrets it lol

Little did she know, that's how the Royals rolled in 14 and 15 playoff games. Lots of late nights, extra innings and all worth it.

oof, bet they regret that one. That game was the hope I was clinging to a year later in the Houston series during that epic comback

u/solojones1138 4d ago
It cost my mom, because my dad told her "If we leave but the Royals somehow win, you gotta take me to the ALDS". So she did.

u/PeachOnAWarmBeach 4d ago
Why not... both? 😆

u/solojones1138 4d ago
They wound up going to a WS game too.lol

u/PeachOnAWarmBeach 4d ago
Us too! Game 6 2014. No one was beating Yordano that day. Not even a lineup from the steroid eras.

My mom was a big leave early fan. I bailed on her and started walking around the stadium crying that i'd never see it that alive again. My fourth lap around the field they took Lester out. People started running out of the seats into the concourse to high five me. I went back to me seat as Salvy hit the game winning RBI.

Wow. They suck. We go to the playoffs how often!? I got a ticket as a surprise gift in standing room only and stayed till the end and wow

Yeah I lived in LA at the time and recorded the game, couldn't watch it live because I was at work. When I did watch it that night I freaked out with how excited I was.... Then they told me they had left early! Unbelievable. I wouldn't have let them had I been there.
I know I wouldn't have because we all went together to Game 1 of the 2015 WS and stuck it out through all 13 innings. And we're rewarded with the win!

It’s always worth staying, even if you lose.
Hell I forced friends to stay one time, because we were losing so bad like last season regular season. And ya, we lost, but it ended with us down by 4, bases loaded and a fly ball that got caught at the warning track to end the ball game in a loss.
That kinda ball game is worth hanging on for2
u/PeachOnAWarmBeach 4d ago
We almost always stay till the end of a game, but did leave early on my birthday, pouring rain off and on, down by like 11, and Muser as the coach. I think they lost by more than 11.

u/SNL_Head 4d ago
Oh damn. Ya if you were here for Muser’s days i definitely apologize! Absolutely forgiven

u/solojones1138 4d ago
I agree. My mom gets horrible anxiety about sports though lol
3
u/SNL_Head 4d ago
I can appreciate that. There was a guy next to me who was sweating it out hard like he had a fair amount of money on the line lol. But man I had to get up on a table to see Hosmer’s hit land in Left/Center and there has been nothing like that night since sports wise, or life wise lol

I was probably 10-15 rows behind you. This is the angle I remember the game from. What a night!

I was an expat living in Dubai at the time and was able to watch the game while in a meeting via Slingbox on my phone. When the Royals tied it late - banged on the desk and probably cheered. I had to call myself out and let everyone in the meeting know I was watching the game - my coworkers had ZERO clues on what baseball is. Felt like such an idiot but so happy they won that great game.
That's still the best game I've ever watched.

12 years ago tomorrow I was walking into an 8am interview for my first career job out of college.
Interviewer: "How are you doing this morning?"
Me: "Honestly, pretty tired..."
Interviewer: "Royals fan?"
Me: "Yep."
Interviewer: "I'm pretty tired too..."

I feared for Ned's life when he came to get Yordano Ventura. The boo's raining down were the loudest I had ever heard a stadium, until the walk-off from Salvy. So damn loud. What a great shared moment to have for our fandom. So glad I was there.

Between the 2014 Wild Card, the entire 2014 playoff run, 2015, and the Chiefs ever since, we've been living good in KC.

I think I still have my tickets. One of the most emotional games.

I was there also. Still the best live sporting event of my life.

I’ll take it a step further and compare it with every other sporting event in my lifetime. It was great!

I’ll never forget that night as long as I live. After waiting my whole life as a Royals fan for a chance to watch them play in the postseason, being treated to THAT game was like some kind of magic. Yelling myself hoarse. Jumping up and down and hugging delirious strangers. Waking up the next morning and checking the score on my phone right away because I was convinced the whole thing must have been a dream. Best baseball memory of my life without question!

First game that I ever sprained an ankle as a spectator lol. I was jumping around so wildly that I actually hurt myself. The best part: my father gave me his four tickets to game 7 in 1985 because he was called out of town for work. So I took my dad to this wild card game years later as a form of pay back thinking that it couldn't be as good but at least I tried. Instead we both got the most magical game ever. It was great.

I watched it in my dorm room on my little tv in Oklahoma , while my roommate at the time was at the game. I didn’t sleep that night, and watched the post game on the local KC TV stations, and there my roommate was in the background of a live shot for one of the stations. For someone who has claimed the Royals and the Chiefs because of my family it was probably one of the most uplifting things I’ve ever been in my life. Then the next year when we won it, my friends lifted me up and chanted for the Royals. Good memories.

I still remember Denny referring to this as a DOGPIT, a “Dang One Game Play-In Thing” 🤣

I remember a bunch of grown men in my section crying and hugging after the game winner. I was one of them. Hugging complete strangers while we all cried in joy. I will never forget that moment.

At the age of 28, It was a truly epic experience… that I wish my sleeping wife could have appreciated when I woke her with my screams.

I went to one of the games of the ALS series in 2014 and one of the World Series games in 2015. Not sure why I didn’t keep the tickets. I really wish I had kept the tickets from all the concerts I went to back in the 80’s!

Somehow ended up sitting next to the Mosustakis family for this game and it was electric. Waited my entire life to see a KC playoff game. I still contend it’s one of the best baseball games to ever be played.

If this was the game that the honored the fire fights, then I was at this game as well! What a time to be alive.

u/PeachOnAWarmBeach 4d ago
That was game ....4?... against Houston. The next year. 2015
The high of the comeback win in Houston, followed by the crushing loss of life just hours later.

So true. That happened so close to my house (I came upon the whole thing as I was coming home that night). It impacted our whole community so much.

I just wish they gave tickets still.
