Beware- there are phishing emails that look like they are from the NTA. The NTA should not be emailing you. They will send paper letters or call.

Be sure to check email headers and links- this was easily spotted and they were trying to get the users gmail info.

You will get emails when new messages hit your e-tax inbox, etc.

And you can open the site directly or via the MyNa portal rather than trusting the e-mail.

The NTA will absolutely not email you a link to a personalized PDF. (Theres a fax joke to make here, but....)

NTA emails, but the email just says to log on to the tax portal (without any link) to see what the message says.

Mate we are soo cooked. I'm not opening links in emails anymore. I got one at work and was so close to opening it before i saw the r looked kinda weird , then reread the email domain and indeed it was a scam . 😭

The year of our lord 2026 and people are still, or at least still consider, opening cold email links.

If X agency or X company needs to get in touch with you, you can always always find that if you login to their shit manually.

lol the NTA only ever contacts you when they want your money. any email claiming they have a tip for you or that you're getting free money/tax refunds is 100% phishing

Damn damn. I'm always super careful with emails but I gotta admit I probably would click this shit if I had gotten it.

This doesn't look like the myna notification to login and read my myna box which has a message to login with my myna and read me etax message box.

Times customer, or maybe one of the dozens of other Japanese companies that announced this week that they got hacked a month, under cover of the Times coverage?

Is Japan ever gonna take data protection and cybersecurity seriously?
